Fantastic boat in the heart of the city
by Martin Payne Smith

We spent a fantastic four nights on Niell's boat at the beginning of April. The boat was five minutes walk across the main piazza from central station and is the first moored boat at the end of Singel. Indeed it is moored directly opposite Amsterdam's smallest house!
We contacted Niell in advance to request if we could check in a little early as we had an early morning flight from the UK. After a 15 minute train ride from Schipol we left our luggage in the lockers at central station (€10) for a couple of hours whilst we went for a walk and some lunch. We then met Niell onboard and he showed us how everything worked and recommended a couple of supermarkets. We ended up using the one a few hundred meters away of Nieuwendijk which was surprisingly well provisioned for a city centre minimarket.
The boat was well furnished and very comfortable. The only thing we suggest that could be improved was the addition of a microwave oven. There was surprisingly little noise throughout the day and night in such a central location (one of us a particularly light sleeper but had no issues at all).
Highlights of the trip were the Anne Frank Huis (we started to queue at 8.15am for a 9am opening but we understand the ticketing system is changing to all online from May), the Van Gogh Museum, a canal tour and a day trip to the Keukenhof Gardens using a combo ticket (just over €100 for a family of four available from the IAmsterdam office on the station piazza) - this included train to Schipol, bus transfer to the gardens and gardens entrance. Amsterdam however is at its best when strolling around with liberal stops in brown cafes and pancake houses (we'd recommend Pancake Bakery on Prinsengracht near the Anne Frank Huis - always full and the pancakes are a meal in themselves!)

Great location, wonderful stay
by Janet Perry

We enjoyed our stay at this houseboat. It is exactly as advertised as well. The kitchen is nicely set up and we loved the convenience of having a fridge - much better than a hotel. It is wonderful for a family as the second bedroom has two bunk beds - ideal for kids.
The location is an easy walk from the train station and we walked everywhere from here - museums, Anne Frank house, noordemarkt, great restaurants are all a nice walk.
If you have trouble with mobility such as steep stairs going into houseboat, or if you are very tall it may not be the best lodging for you. The master bedroom does have a low ceiling but the rest of the houseboat feels very spacious.
We were very happy with our decision to stay here!
