A unique and enjoyable experience!
by Cheryl Pepper

We enjoyed our stay on Houseboat B069, it was fun and the location was fabulous. Just a short walk to Central Station which was perfect for us as we needed to use the trains, and close for many other needs as well, particularly to visit the fabulous Saturday Market nearby. The outside appearance of the boat is dark and drab, but it is an original old ship, not a flat bottomed houseboat, so there are different roof lines etc which make it very interesting and gives it character. We also loved seeing the boat traffic passing by day and night along the canal. It has Wi-Fi too which is great.
The only couple of negative points would be that the locking of the door was a bit tricky when leaving the boat. It took quite a while sometimes. The initial appearance of the boat inside compared to how it appeared on the Internet was disappointing, none of the display props were left on the boat and it was very bland and less appealing. It could do with some colour, such as prints on the walls and maybe some brighter cushions. The coffee table had a broken/ wobbly leg and probably a replacement table would be a good idea.
The boat itself was generally well equipped, but a small microwave would be an excellent addition and from memory some wine glasses!
The entry steps from the deck down into the boat are very steep and require careful negotiating. We were 4 mature aged ladies, 3 of us in our early 70's so getting our big suitcases up the stairs when leaving took some ingenuity and a combined effort, but we did it without too much drama.
The owner of B069 is very nice and very obliging and sorted out any issues we had asap.
Staying on a canal boat is a really different experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Amsterdam. You can stay in Hotels anywhere in the world but rarely can you get such a unique experience like this, and we would do it again in a heartbeat!

Central position

A great position to access all that Amsterdam has to offer. Admittedly the pictures on the booking site are probably a little old as the boat doesn't look quite as good as they do. On the outside it doesn't look much at all but inside it's neat and tidy. A lot roomy than you would expect. Only real issue we had was strangers coming along and helping themselves to sitting outside on the deck but they moved on straight away when asked. All I would say is that the website photos need to be updated to accurately represent the boat. We had a great stay there though, very enjoyable.
