amsterdam houseboats rentals House-Boat Hotel Amsterdam

House-Boat B092 ***

This boat is located on the edge of the very popular Jordaan in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city, just a short walk from the Central Station Amsterdam. Around the corner there is the famous Noordermarket (market days are Saturday and Monday), Anne Frank House and many restaurants, cafés and pubs. This is the place to experience Amsterdam.
In 2012,  the owner lovingly renovated the boat that has a colourful history.  It was originally built in 1934 to be tugged around Amsterdam with deck freight. The owner christened her, after his wife, ‘Jantje’.  Jantje was known for liking a drink or two. Very quickly the people of Amsterdam named the boat the ‘blauwe’ Jantje. Blauw is not only the colour blue but also means intoxicated in street language.
This colourful history was the theme for the interiour of the boat, which is blue. The boat has a  well-equipped open plan kitchen,  a bathroom and a separate toilet. The spacious master bedroom has a king size bed. There is also a smaller bedroom with a bunk bed.

Jantje Blauwe Houseboat

We had stayed at this very centrally located houseboat toward the end of September 2016. We were promptly met at the houseboat to go through the information to ensure an enjoyable stay. The boat was extremely centrally located and within walking distance of just about everything. This was a great advantage while in Amsterdam for only 4 nights. Additional advantages were the kitchen which we used every evening and the washer and dryer which were good quality.
The overall experience was fine but I did think that the accommodation, compared to the pictures on the website, was a little less polished than presented on-line. The accommodation, for a family of 4, comprising of two-12 year old children, seemed to require a more thorough cleaning and the overall appearance was stark. Acknowledging that late September is toward the end of planting season, there were dead plants on the deck that simply made the boat seem unkempt and a little rough.
Overall, I would rate the accommodation as 3.5 out of 5.

In the city centre!

Overall we enjoyed house-boat b092 quite a lot.
the owner, jochem, was very friendly and explained how everything worked.
The location was perfect, a very short walk to almost everything we wanted to see and do. We loved the antiques and food market in the square around the corner on saturday morning.
Just one note...if you are the type of person who wants a totally quiet and peaceful place to stay, there were times when the amount of boat traffic on the canal was quite heavy and non-stop. Next time we might consider to choose a houseboat on a quieter canal in a more mellow neighbourhood.
