House-Boat B092 ***

This boat is located on the edge of the very popular Jordaan in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city, just a short walk from the Central Station Amsterdam. Around the corner there is the famous Noordermarket (market days are Saturday and Monday), Anne Frank House and many restaurants, cafés and pubs. This is the place to experience Amsterdam.
In 2012,  the owner lovingly renovated the boat that has a colourful history.  It was originally built in 1934 to be tugged around Amsterdam with deck freight. The owner christened her, after his wife, ‘Jantje’.  Jantje was known for liking a drink or two. Very quickly the people of Amsterdam named the boat the ‘blauwe’ Jantje. Blauw is not only the colour blue but also means intoxicated in street language.
This colourful history was the theme for the interiour of the boat, which is blue. The boat has a  well-equipped open plan kitchen,  a bathroom and a separate toilet. The spacious master bedroom has a king size bed. There is also a smaller bedroom with a bunk bed.

We just left Amsterdam a few days and loved the city. Our first impression of the boat was very disappointing as the ramp and deck were covered in cobwebs and bird poop, as well as an ashtray full of cigarette butts (I took pictures if you would like to see them). The inside of the boat was very clean and comfortable when we got inside, so this was a surprise that the outside was in such bad shape. When we aksed the owner why the deck was not cleaned with the boat he said it was a "fools job". Well I cleaned the deck myself, fool that I am, and got rid of the ashtrays, since we rented a houseboat so we could sit on the canal to watch boats and people come by. It stayed clean for our five days and was very enjoyable so I don't understand why he does not believe it should be cleaned prior to each guest.
We also had asked for access to the boat at 2:30 instead of 3:00 since we were arriving walking from Centraal Station, with kids and luggage and he said that was impossible since his cleaner would be there until 3. We sat outside for 1/2 hour from 2:30 until 3:00 waiting for his cleaner to leave, and she was not there after all.
We enjoyed our stay even though it was a sad way to start off the rental.

Our stay in Amsterdam
by Michaela Gruen

We had a wonderful time on this lovely boat!!! Perfectly located, right in the middle of the heart of the city, there could be no better place to start a stroll through Amsterdam.
The boat itself is very cosy and offers everything you need. There is no question where we will stay during our next stay in Amsterdam.

House Boat B092 Amsterdam, Holland

Three retired women shared this two bedroom houseboat and were all pleased with the space, location, decor and the delightful owner, Jochem. He met us on arrival, went over the equipment on the boat and gave us very good tips on local markets, restaurants, tours, etc. Jochem provided a large tray of maps and tour books to help us along our travels. The beds were all very comfortable, and the TV was in English. We had a great time looking out the living room window as weddings, romantic dinners, tourists and party groups, including a gondola, floated past our window. We fed the ducks and ducklings as well as watched an elegant crane swoop down on the antique yacht across the canal and catch his dinner. We saw as much from the window of our boat as we did on the tours and walks. Don't forget to get apple pie at Winkels and super-luscious Arthur Tuytel dark chocolate at the Marqt; both are a little more than 1 block away. Just about everyone speaks English, so Americans should not be hesitant.
