Boat BK18, Guestroom ***

This House-Boat is probably the most photographed boat in Amster-
dam, pictures of this boat were placed in magazines over the world, from Japan to Denmark. She is moored in the middle of the "Jordaan", the most pitoresque neighbourhood in our city. In the surroundings of the boat are numerous little shops, secondhand clothing stores, café's , restaurants, the Anna Frank House and markets. From here it's less then a 10 minute walk to the Damsquare.

Your hostess is very artistique with a wonderful taste. All small details in the room were made by herself.  The entrance is a hatch with steep stair. Down stairs you find a bedroom and a kitchennette with microwave, fridge and coffee- and tea making facilities. There is also a private bathroom with shower and toilet. It's really nice to sit on the deck, you have a great view over the Prinsengracht and the Westertoren. It will give you proberly the feeling if you are a local when you see all the tourists passing by in canalboats. They will be jalous when they see you sitting on a cosy couch with a glass of wine in your hand! Jackie is well known in the theatre world, decorated a large number of musical, films etc. Click here for reviews and  Jackie in the New York Times.

My wife and I agree that renting a houseboat was the best decision we made, regarding our stay in Amsterdam. We couldn’t have been happier with the houseboat we chose to stay on; it was beautiful inside and out! Our host and the owner of the houseboat, Jackie, is a sweetheart. She was extremely respectful, informative, and very accommodating. We love Jackie’s Eastern-influenced decorating style and aesthetic. Our accommodations were very cozy and romantic; we felt right at home. There is not a lot of space, but we managed just fine. There are multiple drawers built into the bed, as well as two locations with metal hangers and empty shelf space. We had all of the amenities we needed, such as a table, counter space, a wonderful shower and bathroom, two sinks, a refrigerator, microwave, utensils, etc. The location of the boat in the Jordaan district, with its picturesque, rich history, art galleries, and specialty shops, was ideal! There is a large grocery store two blocks away, coffee and breakfast across the street, as well as many other wonderful restaurant choices nearby. After full days of exploring the city, it was heavenly to come back to our boat, sit on our private deck (complete with couch, cushions, and table) ¬– also beautifully decorated – and relax while soaking in the view of amazing architecture, native and foreign pedestrians, busy bicyclists, and the many styles of boats slowly making their way up and down the canal. Our stay was magical, a real privilege, and an experience of a lifetime.

An amazing experience, something we have been wanting to do for a long time. To actually stay on a canal boat in the centre of Amsterdam is something not to be missed.
In our case Jackie the owner of the canal boat was charming and could not have been more accommodating, each evening when we returned to the boat there was a small treat on board to enjoy with a glass of wine in the evening watching the world go by on the canals...
Opposite where the boat is moored there is a very good cafe called Cloud where we had breakfast most mornings, the coffee is really excellent. One of the highlights of our stay in The Netherlands and an experience we will cherish for a very long time…
