Cold & Wet. | 1 February 2012
Gert Lehmann Madsen

Stayed on this housebot for my new year vacation and I must say that in spite of the fact that the houseboat was large and had many positive features - I am really disappointed and would never stay on this boat again.

I have been to Amsterdam more than 20 times. But this time was one of the worst if you look at the accommodation. Only once before have I been more disappointed.

The houseboat is located very nice and I got no complaints about the living room, kitchen and bathroom. But all that really does not matter if it rains into your bedroom and into your bed.

Not only that.. But the temperature in the bedroom was then 10 degrees... That is if you are lucky..! So I spend most of my vacation freezing and getting a cold.

When you pay around 200 € and more a day - I really expect not to lie in a wet and cold bed..!!!!!

I cannot recommend anyone to use this houseboat and I must say that I feel angry and disappointed..

STAY AWAY..

We enjoyed the House-Boat thoroughly. It is in a very central location, also close to public transportation. This was a "bucket list" trip for my husband and it was all he hoped it would be. Thanks you offering us the opportunity to stay there!! Would definately reccommend it to friends!

Boat 040 | 30 September 2011

We enjoyed our stay in House-Boat B040 very much. It is very central situated in a calm location of Amsterdam. The facilities and the complete equipment are excellent (internet, bath tub, blow-dryer on board), the furnishing cosy. It's a pity that the house-boat appears a bit battered and parked from the outside.
We had a great time in House-Boat B040 and will recommend it to family and friends.

A real gem! | 14 April 2011
Lucy

We so enjoyed our stay on this wonderful houseboat and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about booking.
The kitchen/dining/living area is very roomy and comfortable with all the facilities that you need. It is also very central meaning that virtually everything of interest to the visitor is within walking distance - and if you do'nt want to walk metro & buses are a very short walk away. We had a lovely warm welcome from Carolien, who was very helpful & knowledgeable about Amsterdam.

A lovely four days on an Amsterdam houseboat | 6 March 2011
Jennifer

We stayed in this houseboat for four nights in Feb/March 2011, a family of four with two children aged 9 and 7. The houseboat has the two bedrooms at each end, which means that the living space is very spacious, bigger than many apartments. The bedrooms are both quite small, particularly the double bedroom.

The stairs down into the main houseboat are more like a ladder, which was fine for us, but wouldn't necessarily be fine for everyone. The boat has a washer, dryer, dishwasher, and very impressive oven (which we couldn't figure out properly during our short stay). The kitchen is very well equipped, better than I expected. The internet connection was excellent (although was not wifi, you needed to connect a laptop).

It was only just warm enough for us (although we are from Australia), I suspect that if you were in Amsterdam during a seriously cold spell (days below zero) you might find it too cold.

The boat is very centrally located, walking distance to anything, and you can use the metro and the trams if you don't want to walk too far. It is two minutes walk to the nearest metro stop, which makes it very easy to get there from the train station.

I have just returned from a weekend in Amsterdam. The boat was the perfect base for our trip. It was far more spacious than a hotel room and the living room was lovely to lounge in while the rain kept pouring down!

The area is ideal. Waterlooplein metro and tram stops are within a short walk. Rembrantplein is also within a few minutes walk. Lots to do in the area and easy to get to other places also.

Boat might not suit those with mobility issues. The stairs down into the boat are quite steep which some may find difficult. The low ceilings in some parts of the bedrooms may not suit others. They are generally ok so long as you remember not to stand up straight when you first wake up!

We had a great time on the boat and would definitely return.

Something a little different | 22 December 2010
Deborah Parrish

We wanted a little adventure for our family vacation and chose to stay on a houseboat. We were not disappointed! This was centrally located, very clean and bright. It has character, you can feel the history all around you. We had a great time and would recommend this to anyone who wants something a little different.

We had an amazing time on the houseboat. Cant wait to do it again!
The location was prime and transport to and from the boat was exceptional.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the boat even if in snowy conditions. Can imagine how beautiful it will be in summer!!
The 'only' criticism is the adjoining boat to the side. Its a little annoying relaxing on your boat and then having people stomp all over the roof trying to get to the boat next to us. Would be nice if this wasnt the case!
All in all, excellent service. Cant complain.

Thankyou very much Carolien!!

Difficile de faire mieux. | 2 November 2010

Allez y vite.

Our stay at this house boat was great, the lounge and eating area was spacious and bright, well equiped modern kitchen.
The owner Trea was very welcoming and informative.
The traffic from people on the next boat can be disturbing, i suppose that just comes with living on a boat like this.
all in all, great accomodation, great location, and a great city..........we`ll be back...thanks

Me and my friends had great time in this house boat. The accomodation is comfortable and as spacious as cosy. Altough the boat is located close to the city center, the surrounding is very quiet. The boat is perfect for both a short or long stay in Amsterdam.
Lying on the boat deck we enjoyed the sun till sunset. The view from the deck or out of the cabin is very wide and romantic at nights.

Houseboat B040 | 24 August 2010
C. Ceillam

We had a great time on this fantastic boat. I couldn't believe how much space we had. The cabin was ideal for watching the world go by (just watch out for the invisible mosquitos above deck). Our host was really helpful, and went out of her way to help us find our way there, and again when we left some valuables behind. The boat was clean and tidy and fitted out will all the conveniences you could possibly need. It's also really central and near a large supermarket so ideally placed.

It was true what they say, once you've done a houseboat, you'll never want to use a hotel again. Roll on next vacation.

We stayed in the house boat in August 2010.

We found it just like all the previous reviewers had described.

As two adult couples we had plenty of room and the location is excellent.

Would not hesitate booking this boat again.

Wonderful Stay in Houseboat 040! | 3 August 2010
Chrissy

We stayed on boat 040 from Wednesday, July 21 - Sunday, July 25, 2010. The boat was in a great location in Rembrantsplein, right across from a cafe. We walked everywhere we went as it is close to all the sites. There is a grocery store right around the corner and every day a market (selling all types of souvenirs, clothes, etc.) just up the road. The boat had a washer, dryer, dishwasher, linens, very comfy couch, nice size TV, and fast internet (included in the price). There was also a portable air conditioner, which was nice during the afternoon when it got a little warmer. Although close to many sites inside the boat was quiet and we had no problems sleeping or with any noise. It was very nice to have a kitchen (stove, microwave and small refrigerator).

The owner Trea met us the day we arrived and explained how everything worked, she was very friendly. You may pay a little more for an accommodation such as this but it is totally worth it. There were two bedrooms so at least four people could stay comfortably (there were two of us). The bathroom has both a shower and a nice size tub. To enter the boat you must climb down a steep set of stairs, so if you have a hard time walking this would probably not be a good place to stay for you. We had no problems at all.

We can't wait to visit Amsterdam again someday. We loved both the city and this houseboat!

We had four people and this boat was absolutely perfect. Easy access and a great location made it very easy to find. We found everything in order, including a bottle of wine. It's a very centralized and it was very easy to find our way around.

We'd recommend this boat to anyone.

A wonderful place to stay | 12 May 2010
Adam

Three of us have just returned from a wonderful long weekend on this houseboat. It is beautifully renovated and very clean. Plenty of room for 4 people to stay. Beautiful, clean bathroom and 2 very comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen has laundry machines and a dishwasher. Fast Internet! There is a beautiful captains quarters/sunroom upstairs where you can sit and enjoy the boats passing on the river and take it all in. It is in a lovely location, very close to everything, yet set just enough away from e main street nearby. Feels very private but is very accessible. I have been to Amsterdam several times and have stayed in many different types of places, and I will most definitely be coming back to stay on this boat again.

Our stay 5th March - 7th March | 13 March 2010
Lorna, Paul, Nev & Viv

Hi,
We had chosen the boat as a location to visit Amsterdam City & also see the boat show at the RAI. Excellent central position with access to both taxis & trams.

Beware to those (like us) that come to Amsterdam with their car. I was advised that there was local secure parking - it would have helped to be told that it was 48 euros per day to park there. (additional costs that we had not budgeted for).

The warning on the steep stairs to access the boat should be even clearer. All four of us are boat owners, used to a staircase down from the aft deck....but the steep / narrow stairs on this boat are only for fully fit and agile people.

That said the boat has an excellent central heating system, with comfortable living space.

Would consider that a check on the light bulb situation by the owner should be undertaken, as many lights are out of use. (kitchen cooker hood / spot lights etc)

Only other observation is the bathroom - beware the loo is a serious step up, and once more being agile is essential.

Beds made up for our arrival by our hostess. with linen etc lovely and clean.....think that the bedroom areas let this boat down, and the main selling point must be the living space.

No information provided as to where to put the refuse!

That said, we had a lovely weekend, and the bottle of wine on arrival was much appreciated. Possibly the coldest city break we have had!

very late review | 2 November 2009
alison

I`ve been meaning to post this review for many months as we stayed on this fabulous house boat for a week in May 2009.

We are a family of four with two children aged 12 and 9 at the time - the house boat was the most fantastic place to stay in Amsterdam - it had all the amenities we could have asked for, a friendly and helpful landlord, but also equally friendly and helpful people at both the cafe opposite and on the market stalls close by.

The boat was ideally located, beautifully furnished, well equipped and thankfully very sound as we discovered during a huge storm on our first night there!

We could have happily moved into this boat and stayed forever. It took 10 years for us to save for this holiday for various reasons, and we are so glad we spent it in both Amsterdam and on this boat.

Thank you Frank

Alison and family

Really nice houseboat experience | 30 October 2009
Jaromir Blazke

Hello,
I would like to thank you for a nice stage in Amsterdam, we have enjoyed pretty much the living on the ship.
The ship itself was great - having a huge central space where we could have relaxed (this was a great plus especially in comparison to the houseboat where our friends lived, which had half of the space then we did)
I would very recommend this houseboat to anyone who wants to spend the vacation in Amsterdam in a nice environment, for a reasonable price.

Review | 21 October 2009
Tom Yardley

We have stayed on several different houseboats in Amsterdam over the years but this is probably the nicest one yet.

The boat is well maintained and in a great location that is both central and quiet, and has a great view of the comings and goings on the Amstel from the wheel house.

The main open plan living room is light and spacious with everything you could want for a comfortable stay including fast internet, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, washing machine etc etc plus all the bits and pieces you need to cook properly, if that is your thing. The two bedrooms are more basic but perfectly adequate and the beds are comfortable. Bathrooms on boats aren't always that great but the one on this boat is well above average, nicely laid out with a good shower and separate tub, as well as plenty of hot water with good pressure.

Frank is a very genial and helpful host who welcomed us with a bottle of wine and some useful information.

The only problem you might encounter is with the stairs to the below decks area which are pretty steep, so if you have restricted mobility this may not be the boat for you. For anyone else I can warmly recommend it as a great base for exploring Amsterdam.

A fun place to stay! | 9 October 2009

Thanks Frank, for a fantastic visit to Amsterdam. I would thoroughly recommend this houseboat as a home base for your travels. The view is unparalleled, it is close to a supermarket, there is a great gourmet food shop nearby (and other treats!) and it is a central location. We had a great time and would most certainly come back on our next trip from Australia!

4 days in Amsterdam | 19 August 2009
Mapi

We've just returned from a 4-day short vacation in Amsterdam, and have really appreciated our stay on the houseboat. It was perfect for us (we are 2 adults and 2 kids aged 9 and 11) : enough space (would also be convenient for 2 couples of friends), nicely decorated, and well equipped. Maybe it would not be convenient with very young kids because of the ladder/stairs to go down from deck to main room ? The landlord is very nice and helpful (thanks Franck for the wine !). We also liked very much the houseboat's location, right in the city center - but quiet - with nice cafés, restaurants and shops in the area. The houseboat is definitely the best place to feel the special atmosphere of this beautiful city !

The Best Trip To Amsterdam | 17 June 2009
Abi Benedict

I have been to Amsterdam many times over the past few years and I never throught to stay on a boat. I can safely say that this is the best trip I have had, the boat could not have been more beautiful or convenient. This was fantastic value for money and I will definitley be staying on this boat again. I have no complaints and couldn't have wished for a more pleasant stay.

Logieren auf dem Hausboot | 20 April 2009
Mirjam Müller-Bodmer

The boat was fantastic! | 14 April 2009

We had a great time on the houseboat (April 2009).
We were travelling with our 2 daughters aged 5 & 7 & although I was a bit apprehensive about having 2 young kids on a boat for 4 days it worked out absolutely perfectly.
They loved going up to the cabin & pretending to drive the boat & wave to the passers by.
The boat itself is spacious (huge living area). The twin bedroom is large, the double a bit on the small side - but that said the bed was very comfortable.
The bathroom was better than I expected - piping hot water & good water pressure in the shower - for those who worry about these things.
Plenty of towels & linens clean.
It was also far enough away from the crowds to make it peaceful to sleep on at night - but really only a 5 min bike ride into the heart of the city. Rembrandt Square was a close & eclectic dining option.
Frank (the owner) was very helpful & called a taxi for us to take us to the airport. Getting taxis to/from boat airport is a bit tricky as there is really no taxi rank close by.
Other thoughts: could probably do with a set of English instructions for laundry/drier/TV/DVD - as if you don't read Dutch it was a little confusing - but fine once Frank explained.
Some tourist info/brochures/maps/closest supermarket/bike hire etc would also have been nice.
All in all a great vacation - thanks!

I spent two weeks in March 2009 on board and found the experience very pleasant. Frank welcomed me and gave me an overview of the boat. He also responded immediately when I had trouble with the television - my fault, one of the cable plugs slipped loose.

Kitchen and laundry were fully equipped and modern. Also, cable TV and non-wifi internet were available.
The location in the Waterlooplein area was perfect. Every service I could want was within a few blocks, and all the tourist areas are within walking distance.

Overall good experience.

My friends and I had a great stay on this boat. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. We recieved a warm welcome and found the owner very accommodating. The heating was good as well, which helped as Amsterdam was at zero degrees when we arrived. Central and in a nice location, this stay gets the thumbs up from me.

We stayed for four nights on this boat in October 2008. It was really fantastic to be on a great boat in the city centre within walking distance of most things. There was plenty of room for us (2 adults, 2 kids) and we really liked the styling of the boat and it was all clean, etc. If we were going to Amsterdam again we would happily stay in this boat.

We stayed at this houseboat for 5 days and it was a great experience. The houseboat couldn't be more centrally located and the location is absolutely beautiful. It's only a 10 min walk to Rembrantplein. Bicycle rentals are 2 mins from the houseboat and relatively inexpensive (17 euros for a day). The houseboat has a great living room to hang out after spending the day outdoors exploring the city. Take CD's or your i-pod to hook up to the stereo provided in the boat. The only thing to keep in mind is that you have to climb down an 8 step ladder to get to the living room and bedrooms, so if you have joint problems then this isn't the houseboat for you.

The boat is really well located. In a quiet and safetty area. It has everything you need for your stay.
Our daughters didn't like the spiders inside the boat. They were everywhere.
The boat is clean and the beds are comfortable.
We couldn´t find how to turn off the lights above the kitchen, and we asked to somebody to help us but we didn't get any answer. Amsterdam is a wonderful city and we loved it. To stay in a boat instead of a hotel is a very good choise.

The houseboat was a fantastic way to enjoy Amsterdam. It was moored in a fabulous location. The plain outside of teh boat was a great disguise for the stunning, smart and clean interior. It had everything we needed, was very well maintainted and had plenty of space for 4 adults. Will definately look to stay there again if possible in the future.

5 June 2008

We stayed on this house boat for four nights and it was wonderful. The boat is stylish, comfortable and well equipped. We thought that the boat might be noisy because it is so central but, in fact, when you are inside, you can hear nothing at all. It is wonderful to be so close to the centre. Just opposite there is a good cafe with a pleasant terrace so you don't have to cook if you don't want to. There is a good food shop very close by. Bike hire is also less than 400 metres away, as is the metro. The owner of the boat is very friendly and lives locally. Altogether I thoroughly recommend it. Alice in Brussels

Houseboat B040- Excellent location | 28 November 2007
Anna
email: harika (dot) b (at) gmail (dot) com

This houseboat is located at a very best location, very convenient to walk to many significant sites, museums, nice restaurants, the Central Station, two canal bus stops, a taxi rank, the university, and the red light district. It is right accross from the opera house and city hall, and a nice cafe. The boat is spacious for three to four people, clean and simply decorated. One area that could be improved would be to charge an additional small amount and have toilet paper and soap ready. The toilet itself was at a raised platform, and not much convenient for men. But the shower and hot water was working very well, and a lot of towels were provided. Washer-drier were also very convenient, but needed some instructions to operate, particularly for American visitors, who are not used to the same kind of machines (the ones in the U.S. also take a shorter time to finish a washing cycle).
Overall, I liked the houseboat, and would definitely recommend it to friends.

We stayed for 7 days in this boat, the third time we went to Amsterdam and it´s been the best of all. The hostess is a wonderful woman who gave us a bottle of fine wine to be drink at the deck with some candles (she recommended). Thank you Sylvie!!!!
The boat is very big, comfortable, clean an the best situated.
Next time we visit Amsterdam, definitively, we´ll choose this boat again.

We had an amazing time in Amsterdam and loved staying on the houseboat. The boat was clean and very spacious and had all the modern amenities you could need. The location was perfect - a short wak to the city center, and near a great cafe, shopping, grocery stores, and the restaurants and nightlife of the southern canal belt. The neighborhood is active during the day so there was lots to look at while relaxing on the deck of the boat. I would recommend a stay on this houseboat to anyone looking to spend time in Amsterdam and be part of an Amsterdam neighborhood. You just don't get the same experience from a hotel room.

Houseboat B40 Review | 26 September 2007

the most enjoyable part of our 3 week Europe tour was our stay on this houseboat! We loved it, and would definately stay there again. The interior is wonderfully appointed, very spacious and bright, and the location can't be beat!
We have friends that have rented it for a period in November, and we can;t wait to tell them how nice it is.

Only suggestions that I would make are:
Instructions on how to use the washer and dryer (for us non-europeans!)
A light near the beds in the bedroom with 2 twins
Maybe some color on the walls or art in the 2 bedrooms

I hope to visit again, and will definately recommend it to all I know ( even though being 6'3" tall I cam home missing chunks of skin off of the top of my head!)

The houseboat is in a great location a nice open space with great views .Sitting on deck watching the world go by every morning was wonderful and if its raining or its not so warm then sitting in the cabin is the place to be . The cabin at night was fantastic a great place to sit and chat .Every thing about the houseboat was just great and the owners were wonderful and I definitely will reccommend this as a place to stay for friends and family. I look forward to coming back to Amsterdam and renting this Houseboat again.

Our Unforgettable Stay in Amsterdam | 19 August 2007

We stayed at the boat for 7 nights in mid August.
It was a very impressive experience for us.
Even many Dutch people don't have such experinces.

Most of the necessary facility were there and they are
in good condition and clean. I would love to come and
select this boat when I come to Amsterdam next time.

The last things I have to comment are as following;

1. If English instruction is supplied it wpuld be more
helpful (ex.Especially Wash disher, Laundry and Dryer)
2. The living room is a little bit dar. Light stand on the
dining table would be useful.

Thank you very much for your good offer.

Best regard,

Masahiro Takei

just got back to canada after spending 6 nights on this beautiful houseboat. it looks like an old dutch fishing boat that has been brilliantly converted into a two bedroom houseboat. air conditioning, washer, dryer, dish washer, six-element gas stove, microwave, shower, soaker tub, tv, internet hook-up, etc. Sylvia (i think she's the owner) greeted us with a bottle of french merlot.
there's a public phone around the corner and grocery stores just a few minutes walk either way. you can sit up top in the wheel house and people watch all day yet it is very quiet and private. we will definately be back.
fyi: the best map of amsterdam we found was from Mike's Bike Tours

Just spent a week on this boat. Spacious and bright and a great spot on the river Amstel.
Central for all the sights and some lovely bars around. We will definitely be back soon.

A superb location, in a central but yet quiet location, within short walking distance of all the key attractions!!

The boat is beatifully furnished, and it is as good as it looks in the photographs.

Excellent - when I return to Amsterdam I will be staying here again!!

If you want to feel what Amsterdam is, you should choose living on a boat.
Though we stayed there only for a few days, we felt ourselves real amsterdamers. It was comfortable, it was romantic and it costed adequately.
Thank you!

We loved staying on the houseboat. For a boat, it is very light and spacious feeling. It's very clean also. The location is very good; it's close to everything but (at least at this time of the year) in a quiet location.

Two small details that could be improved on: we weren't able to figure out how to make the oven work (it's a lovely, brand new oven, but wouldn't turn on). Also, I wasn't able to figure out how to use the high speed internet.

In general, it would be great if the owners provided a small "user's guide" to the boat.

We were 2 couples sharing the houseboat and we were delighted with the large living room for socializing and cooking and dining. The location was relatively quiet at night, yet, only 2 or 3 minutes from the nightlife and the metro and canal taxi. The beds were ok and we are picky! The boat was quite clean and well equipped for simple cooking. The hosts and owners do not live aboard, but are available to help if there are any problems.

The houseboat was in a really good position of Amsterdam. We found the accommodation extremly comfortable and very clean, also it very relaxing place to stay. Would of been nice to have some wine glasses! also more local information would have been great ie: restaurants, take-aways, bars etc

Houseboat 40. Wow. I must say that I was so happy that my friends and I decided to stay here rather than a hotel. This place was so spacious and comfortable, and allowed us to do the things you can't really do at a hotel, like laundry! The owners were so friendly and warm, and the location was great! We weren't far from anywhere we wanted to go. During the day, there was so much going on around the houseboat, and at night it was so peaceful, with beautiful scenery all around you on the waterways. I recommend this houseboat to anyone looking for a great experience in Amsterdam. I'll be going back, and staying here.

Superb accommodation! | 4 June 2006

A brilliant find that will meet the needs of even the most fussy traveller! The boat easily accommodates 4 people with a comfortable double bed in one bedroom and twin beds in the more spacious second bedroom. The kitchen is very well equipped and is also very light and airy. The bathroom is a good size with a bath and separate shower. The living area has a huge settee and comfortable chairs - just what we needed after a hard day visiting the sites (and coffee shops) of Amsterdam. The owners are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Hope to stay there again soon!

This boat is comfortable and well-equipped. It is located very centrally in Amsterdam, really off of a public area, but is still quiet and peaceful at night and very private inside. This is the second houseboat I've rented in Amsterdam and I think this way is much superior to a hotel. The caretaker was very prompt and friendly. I would recommend this as a good place to stay.
