Great time in Neli's apartment A020 | 15 October 2011
Sharon & Bill Thompson

We were guests in early October 2011 – 4 adults who had never been to Amsterdam and one among us had never been to Europe. Thanks to the wonderful accommodations and warm hospitality this was a delightful vacation experience for all. From the early email exchanges with Neli when booking the apartment to the farewell to Hans after he took us to the airport - everything was perfect. The apartment was spacious, comfortable, spotless, quiet and fully stocked with linens, cooking essentials, Wifi, and cable TV. Plus it was an ideal location for getting a sense of living in Amsterdam. Hans met us at the airport, provided handy information about restaurants and cautionary guidance about bicycles! We would urge anyone planning a trip to this great City to give serious consideration to staying here because they won’t regret it.

Birthdays at Amsterdam | 5 August 2011
Werner and Silvia

We decided to celebrate my wife's 68th and my 70 birthday in Amsterdam. At first we booked a normal hotelroom but then we changed to this apartment. It is situated in the Jordaan area, next to two supermarkets, many many restaurants, cafes, icecreamand other shops.
By Saturday we visited the market at Lindengracht and Noordermarkt and on Monday the textil market in front of the apartment.
Especially nice is that the apartment is not directly at the noisy Westerstraat but a bit behind and therefore rather quiet. There is a lot of space for the two of us, a fully eqipped kitchen and even a patio outside.
What we liked very much from the owners (Hans and Neli) is the taxiservice from/to Schiphol, the possibility to have a boat tour to places where normal cruiseboats are not allowed to go and the instant reaction if anything does not work to specification.
We would like to take the same apartment again for another AMS stay.

Holiday june 2011 | 13 June 2011
John Christensen

We had 5 wonderful days in Amsterdam.
The apartment is fine (the cleaning could be better, but who cares) and the location is perfect, everything is in walking distance.
There are two supermarkets a few meters from the apartment, and a Bakery rather close too. Saturday there was a big market at the end of the street (Westerstraat).

The Cafe across the street - Cafe De Blaffende Vis - is worth a visit.

Hans and Neli are very helpful and hospitable.

So don't hesitate - go for it!

Amsterdam 2011 - Neli's A020 | 10 March 2011
Giacomo Di Mase

The appartment is great for 3/4. It has everything that you need for a short stay, TV, Internet Wifi, etc - even kitchen appliances for cooking, at home. When you rent a bike is perfect beacuse everything is so close.
We had a great time in this apartment, and hope we can stay again there in the future.

Thanks,
Giacomo

We were very comfortable in this apartment. The open plan kitchen/living space was ideal. As for the location, perfect.

The owners were delightful to deal with. Very friendly and accommodating.

We will definitely stay here again.

My family of 5 just spent a week in Amsterdam and stayed at Neli's apartment. We loved the apartment for its great living space, quiet neighborhood and excellent location.
We would definitely stay there again.

Fantastic Little Home in Jordaan | 13 July 2010
Sarah Holmes/Dougie Law

Firstly we must say that we'd recommend this property to anyone wishing to acquire such accomdation in Amsterdam. There are many benefits to having an apartment over a hotel and a few disadvantages.

Our hosts Hans & Neli, are without doubt 2 lovely people; helpful, accomodating, polite, intelligent and very friendly. We dealt with Neli on the phone, and we had a minor hiccup on arrival due partly to a delayed flight and partly due to my knowledge of Amsterdam (I omitted phoning Neli on arrival at Schipol and headed straight for the property) and had to wait a short while for Hans to let us in (I recommend phoning Neli on arrival at Schipol/Amstel).

The apartment itself is at the end of a narrow alley, and although small overall had plenty of usuable space especially in the open-plan lounge/diner/kitchen. The flat was clean and well equipped. I had our iPhones and our son's iPod Touch connected to the Wi-Fi within minutes of arrival (a necessity if you wish to avoid the excessive data-roaming charges from the mobile phone service providers).

The apartment was clean and tidy.

The bedrooms although small were perfectly adequate for a holiday, with comfortable beds and plenty of storage.

The courtyard (a must for anyone smoking) was a delight, providing a very pleasant sun trap during the day, and an airy spot for relaxing in the evening.

I'd say the flat could use a fresh lick of paint and perhaps some 'artificial plants' (for homeliness) if I were feeling critical, but having enjoyed our stay as much as we did I really couldn't care.

The TV was as much as was required (digi-box worked well), but couldn't get the DVD player running (we weren't interested in watching DVDs but I fancied rigging up my iPod to it for music). I did manage to set up my iPod through the digi-radio but the sound quality was so awful I played music thriugh my iPhone's own speaker which in the end was enough. Perhaps a new stand alone CD player with USB would be a nice grade to the property, but not a drawback.

The bathroom was very well equipped with a welcome excess of towels.
We stayed during a mini-heatwave, so I can't claim to have used the bath for a good hot bathe, instead it was so hot I revelled in a cold bath each day (temperatures were between 26-30 degrees during our stay). Of course the apartment wasn't air conditioned (the only advantage of having a hotel), but as Northern Europeans we appreciate the need for aircon would be so rare to justify the installation.

Hans also provided a boat tour service (25Euros/per person) which in such a heatwave was an absolute delight (I had a bit of a boating epiphany during the tour and have remained enthused with the notion of doing more (a lot more) boating on future trips.

Finally Jordaan.
For anyone unfamiliar with Amsterdam, Jordaan is one of our favourite places to be on the planet. Falling out of our flat in Westerstraat could not have been more perfect, shops, supermarkets, bars, cafes, and a wonderful warren of little streets and lanes to explore and tree lined canals with beautiful historic buildings and museums, what more could the heart of man desire???

We will be back to Amsterdam again (soon) and will be booking accomodation from Hans and Neli without hesitation. Next time we will go for a property with the one feature that this apartment lacked; namely a street view with balcony and/or roof garden. This apartment is enclosed (great for getting away from the hubbub, but we'd have preffered to watch Amsterdam go by).

Summing it all up, a fantastic experience (I'm not even going to describe Amsterdam during a World Cup Final as that was purely co-incidental), wonderful hosts, great little flat and living as close to being a Jordaaner as could be achieved, all made up our fabulous holiday, and we truly can't wait to return...

Many thanks, Dougie Sarah and Gio.

Stay at Neli's Apartment | 20 June 2010
Adrian Brown

We stayed at Neli's apartment A20 for 5 nights in May. Neli was very helpful and met us early at the apartment. It was clean and bright, with basic provisions (salt, pepper, oil etc) already there. Great location in Jordaan, no hesitation recommending it.

Clean, accesible, good location, excellent hosts!

Great Stay in Amsterdam | 17 May 2010
Elaine & Don

Neli gave us a friendly welcome and tour around the apartment on arrival - and useful suggestions about the area. Brilliant location just away from the canal but close enough to feel part of the Jordaan area. The apartment was light, spacious and well equipped. Downstairs plenty of comfortable seating and good working kitchen. We were meeting friends so the large dining table was great for entertaining. Bedrooms were simple, good bed with ample cupboards. It was cool so we didn't use the outside patio but can see it would be nice in warmer weather. Thanks Neli & Hans !

Nice appartment | 20 April 2010
Patrick

We have spent 4 days in this appartment. It's really nice and very well situated. We could make all our visits in Amsterdam simply by walking.
With the car you can park at Bos en Lommer P+R which is really near.

The appartment was clean and when we arrived Neli gave us all the required explanation.
With the patio you can enjoy the sun and it gives a lot of sun inside the appartment.

Frau Neli sehr nett und bemüht.

a great stay | 5 January 2010
Dominique, from Toulouse

We really enjoyed our stay at Neli's Apartment A020.
We stayed there for a week around 31 December. The apartment is fully-furnished (a tiny bit short of cutlery though and a few missing bulbs), tastefully decorated and ideally located for a stay in the city.
What makes it even more convenient is the neighbouring supermarket.
We did a lot of walking to see the sights as it is close to lots of interesting places.
The Jordaan is a very nice, peaceful area with lots of beautiful houses.
We had a super-time on New Year's Eve and enjoyed the local fireworks.
A really great stay!

Lovely Amsterdam | 25 July 2009
Hanne

We have been in Amsterdam for 5 days in juli 2009. We are 2 adults and 2 children on 13 and 17 years. We had a very nice time in lovely Amsterdam. It is a very nice apartment, light and clean and quiet, good beds where we sleept very well, a nice little Patio, where we could sit in the sunshine and relax. Neli was very kind and helpful. The Apartment is in a very nice area, with many cosy restaurants and small shops. We were on an nice mexicansk restaurant round the corner. There is not so long to the centrum of Amterdam, where we could walk into about 15 min.
We all enjoyed our holliday in Amsterdam, and the sun was shinning most of the time. We vill most likely come back to Amsterdam again, and Nelis apartment can
definitely have our recommendation.
Love from family from Denmark

Review of Apt A020 | 27 May 2009
NIKI THONGBORISUTE

WE loved the apartment. It was big and bright and airy. It had a nice little patio and big doors opening onto it that let in fresh air and alot of light. The duplex was lovely too. We really liked the area that it was in - very young and bohemian! A great find. I would stay there again.

My eleven day stay at the apartment was very pleasant and comfortable. The apartment was clean, well equipped and quiet - exactly as advertised.

Neli met me on the first day and gave me more than enough information about the apartment, local businesses and restaurants.

On my next trip to Amsterdam, I fully intend to book the same apartment if it is available. I will not stay at an Amsterdam hotel again.

Our Favourite City | 9 November 2008

email: sandford (dot) west (at) btinternet (dot) com

After a very warm welcome from Neli we settled into our Amsterdam 'home' very quickly. Superbly kitted out, with everything you could possibly need. Very light and spacious accommodation, and equally as important very very clean and well presented. Well located for easy access to all the delights of the city, with our favourite restaurant, de Luwte on the Leilegracht, within just 10 minutes walk. Very peaceful apartment, yet you can walk out the door and be in the gentle hustle and bustle of this wonderful city in minutes. Very comfy bed - we slept so well. Although we ate at de Luwte three times in six days (yes, it is that good!) it was wonderful to both shop and cook in our Amsterdam 'home'.

Thank you to Neli, Maarten and Hans for helping us out when our car was in need of an engineer on our penultimate day !! We will most definitely be returning to 131 Westerstraat or possibly the enticing penthouse on the Leidesgracht also owned by Neli & Maarten.

Wonderful days in Amsterdam | 13 September 2008
Silvia Steyerl-Konetzki
email: silviast-k (at) web (dot) de

Three old schoolmates and I spent 5 wonderful days in Amsterdam in App. A020.
We found an easier way to get there: take bus 18 or 21, go till Marnixplein, just cross the road and gracht and you are already in Westerstraat. The house itself is a bit hidden in a backyard.
The house itself is very nice, kitchen well equipped (only a teapot was missing, but Neli will buy one) and the bedrooms quiet.
The area (Jordaan) is beautiful and lively, all sort of shops and restaurants are available, but no daily tourists.
A short walk or taking bus or tram, you can reach the centre of the city and all important museums. "I amsterdam card" is recommended- very convenient.
We enjoyed very much our stay there!

Review Neli's Apt A020 | 18 June 2008

My family of 4 stayed in Neli's apartment in June 2008. First off, Neli and her husband were really nice and that made us feel very welcome. The apartment was spacious, well-equipped, and comfortable. It was also private and quiet. The courtyard was a real treat. The Jordaan neighborhood was a great place to stay because there were few tourists, lots of shops and bistros. The Westermarket and the Noordermarket are very close by. The two large bedrooms and comfortable beds made us all very happy. We would stay here again.

This was a great neighborhood, wonderful hosts and a beautiful apartment. There were 4 of us and it was just the right size. Tucked back in a tiny corridor in Jordaan. I would strongly recommend this place for anyone.

Lovely flat | 6 February 2008
Lucy Benson
email: lucybenson (at) hotmail (dot) com

A lovely flat in a perfect location. The whole flat is clean and spacious. The living room is huge, comfortable and nicely furnished, and the kitchen is very well equipped. The bedrooms are fine, although there was a slight problem with the radiators (didn't work in one room, and leaked in another). Friendly, helpful owners.

Westerstrasse | 19 December 2007
Damien Delaney
email: mark (dot) damien (at) gmail (dot) com

For the last six years we have stayed on house-boats in Amsterdam and this was the first time we had used an apartment. I have to say it really was superb. It was extremely warm in the freezing cold weather, plenty of towels were provided, the kitchen was more than fully equipped, the living area was comfortable and the patio area very handy for the smokers! The bedding was fine and the pillows were the softest I have ever slept on! All in all I could not recommend Westerstrasse enough.
The location was also fantastic, only a short walk to the centre, and local shops for food, clothes and anything else you might need to enjoy a stay in Amsterdam.

What a fantastic apartment!

Myself and three friends stayed at this apartment for 2 nights in August and couldn't have asked for more. The apartment was spacious, well equipped, clean and well organised.

The location was great too with lots of nice eating places within a very short walk from the apartment.

With only a 15 minute walk into the main centre of Amsterdam, it was ideal.

I would very much recommend this as a place to stay whilst visiting Amsterdam - it was a shame that we could only stay the 4 nights. I am already thinking about planning my next trip out!

My party of 4 adults spent 4 nights here in April, 2007. The apartment is fabulous! Very clean and very comfortable with everything that you could possibly need.

The many steps are a bit of a challenge--especially when bringing luggage in, but they are a small price to pay for the huge living space that is in the apartment.

The apartment is a short walk to Central Station as well as to many of the things to see and do. I would recommend this apartment highly and will use it again on my next trip to Amsterdam.

A lovely homely feel to the apartment. When we first arrived we had a little trouble finding the door as it is located down the end of a narrow alleyway which can be quite dark at night. The location is perfect, within minutes walk to beautiful canals, restaurants and bars. Would definately recommend to our friends.

Excellent apartment. Big rooms, clean and airy and a lovely outdoor area.

The location could not be better. In the heart of the Jordaan, there are many places to eat and drink nearby. It's also a great base for getting to the train station for trips outside of the city.

I stayed at the above apartment for 5 nights in April 06' and can highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in self catering accommodation. The apartment itself is decorated to the highest standard and all amenities, such as a supermarket, are nearby. The apartment is located within walking distance of Amsterdam Central and the area it's situated in, Jordan, is also a great place to explore. The apartment was great value for money and I cant recommend it enough to anyone who is visiting Amsterdam.

We thought the appartment was wonderful. A large and spacious living room tastfully funished. Comfortable beds and quiet location. Close to the centre, in a residential area. There are great bars/cafes/restaurants and canals near by. Go and enjoy!

Great Spot | 29 November 2005
Dana Green

Rented the apartment with another married couple that we were travelling with (4 people total) Apartment was very clean, had every ammenity needed, including TV, stereo, comfortable sitting area/couches, full kitchen and dining area, and a second "half-bath" that made getting ready in the morning easier. Location was walkable to nearly everything we wanted. Apartment was set back from the street and very quiet. Owners were very responsive and accomodating, and photos on this website were very accurate. Use of this website to book the reservation was also very easy and successful. Would recommend recommend this apartment highly.

Great Apartment | 17 October 2005
Valerie VanOstenbridge

This apartment was in a wonderful location within walking distance to Anne Frank House and Westerkirk. The tram lines and train system were easily accessible for those museums and North and South Holland. We loved the open market on the street in front of the apartment on Monday, getting a flavor of local merchants and people. The apartment was clean, comfortable and had all the comforts of home. The owners were very considerate and helpful.
The only problem with the apartment and our stay in Amsterdam, was that it had to end. We'll hope to return to both soon.

All accommodations:
