Thanks for providing such an excellent location from which to explore Amsterdam. The boat was well appointed clean and functional, providing everything necessary for a comfortable stay. Pick-up of keys was close by and went without a hitch, the on board wifi was useful in accessing tourist information and planning our days.

I would not hesitate to recommend BK48 to anyone wishing to stay in a central location it comfortably caters for 4 adults and is a short walk from just about anywhere.

Kind Regards

Sue & Marc

Brilliant! | 16 October 2011

We were looking for something different to do on our recent return to Amsterdam and I can certainly say that houseboat BK48 did the trick!

We loved it! It's well located and soundproofed. The internet was appreciated as was Richard's smiling face upon our arrival. The boat is quite spacious and generous for accommodation in Amsterdam. It was the perfect base for the four of us to enjoy our four nights in Amsterdam.

Thank you, Richard, for taking the time and effort to create a wonderful accommodation experience.

We had a fabulous time on houseboat BK48. Richard dealt with our request to fix the shower door IMMEDIATELY. The place was clean and the perfect size for 4 women on a girl's trip. Would go stay here again with out hesitation. Thanks Richard!!

We loved it! | 25 September 2011

Great central, yet quiet location. Plenty of room for a couple but could do with more storage if more people staying on boat. Great bathroom, comfy lounge chairs & great view of the wonderful canal activities from the deck. Highlight of our holiday - would definitely recommend & would love to return! Thank you Richard.

we stayed at the boat and i have to say that the boat's location is a winner, right at the center of amsterdam 5-10 minutes walk from everything and yet it's in a quite location so there is no noise from around.
the living room is a bit small but you dont want to spend all your time watcing TV.
nice bathroom and kitchen . the place could use more storage place for your stuff and maybe some extra towels would be nice. overall a nice boat to stay if you dont want the typical hotel expiriense.

Very satisfied | 29 August 2011

My family really enjoyed the experience of not only visiting Amsterdam, but staying on a houseboat during our time there! The houseboat was much more spacious than I had expected and everything was in good working order. When the weather allowed, we enjoyed sitting out on the deck appreciating the boating culture of the city. Great location close to a supermarket and the flea market, and the ability to self-cater kept the overall cost of the holiday down.

We stayed 4 days on board of the boat- Saturn - houseboat nr. BK 48
The boat`s location downtown is perfect for visiting Amsterdam yet the environment is quiet and clean.
The rooms are practically furnished and offer sufficient space to live in for 4 persons.

Our critics concern mainly the bathroom appliances like the shower with not functioning doors, defect whirlpool equipment - and the dust underneath the furniture, which you happen to see when you are looking for missing parts at the floor.

We enjoyed to stay in this <special appartment >.

This Houseboat was in an excellent location being within walking distance of many attractions of central Amsterdam. Metro station Niewmarket is a short walk away. Local bakery and local supermarket nearby. Accommodation is clean and comfortable.

Hi,

We had a great time on Richard's houseboat and we all want to come back again and stay there! The only problem was the bill as we were clear there were 5 of us and we felt we had agreed on the price. Your company tried to charge us more and in the end, I think it was Richard who lost out. Richard was very gracious about it. We felt safe and the accomadations were remarkable.

Perfect location | 20 June 2011
Oliver and Petra Bartram

What a fantastic way to stay in Amsterdam!!! Beautiful and spacious boat in a just perfect location in the middle of Amsterdam! Nice and good size rooms, beautiful bath - our son loved that shower ;-) , tastefully decorated! Richard - the owner is a really nice, easygoing and helpful guy .... as all the other "Amsterdamers". Everything just worked out perfect!
Easy to find and to reach ( Metro ) and in walking distance of all the nice places. Nice cafés and restaurants close by, if you need a supermarket it's just around the corner. For all that come by car... park in the AJAX stadium ( Transferium ArenaA, P1 ) parkhouse, go to the carpark counter, exchange your parkticket into max. 5 Metro tickets, make sure you check in and out the Metro to and from the city and when you come back exchange those tickets again into the final park ticket... this way you park for only 8€ per day!!! Metro 54 takes you right to town in roughly 15 min.!!

We'll come back - that's sure!!!

Thank you very much for some wonderful days in Amsterdam. The boat is perfect located, close to the highlights of Amsterdam. And close to the "Schlüselwacht", a very nice bar. The boat was very clean and comfortable, everything we needed was there.
The houseboatkeeper was very kind and quick wenn we needed him, thank you for your help!.
All together a very nice place to stay, we will come back!
Thank you!

feed back after a stay at bk48 | 30 May 2011
philippe VINCENT

Hello,
We were in the BK48 from May 22 to 29
we (4 people) are satisfied of the global offer on bk 48 especially the website, very clear and detailed, the map coming with the 1st receipt by email. Perhaps would it be a good idea to include a special paragraph on where to find a low cost parking + underground....
We appreciated some details such as paper filters already there for the coffee machine, as well as toilet paper, shaving foam and towels in the bathroom. On top of this, the person in charge of daily assistance was more than reactive and as efficient as expected. (a hot water issue solved in 5 min eg) To be perfect, please just think about adding one more pan in the kitchen, curtains on the bedroom windows as the day rises at 6h in summer !
as you see nothing serious
thank you very much from us all, for this lovely week in Amsterdam
best regards
Philippe

Zwei Schlafzimmer, super Matrazen, sehr sauber.

Wonderful Houseboat Apartment | 3 May 2011
John & Adriana

This is a wonderful houseboat in an excellent location in Amsterdam, just a short walk from Dam Square. The immediate neighborhood has great eating and shopping. The houseboat has very comfortable sleeping accommodations for 4 and an additional loft bed that can sleep another 2. The kitchen is well-equipped with a refigerator, dish washer, sink, and bake oven -- No microwave, though. The furnishings are quite adequate and stylish. The bathroom is beautiful and has a whirlpool spa and mult-head shower. The plumbing is in excellent operating condition. There is a television and free WiFi.

This apartment is in the forward section of a converted freighter in which the owner resides in an apartment in the aft section. The owner and his staff are very nice people and are always available to attend to your needs. Our stay was a super experience!

The boat was very comfortable,
we liked it a lot.
It wasn´t so easy to find the boat beause the directions are not fully correct. From
the metro station "nieuwmarkt" you have to take the south exit called "nieuwe hoogsstraat" not "snoekjesgracht". Everything else was easy.

just great | 9 April 2011
Katja

this houseboat is just the best way to do an Amsterdam trip! The location is perfect, 2 min to waag, right across Rembrandt House, 5 min walk to Nemo and Central station. The boat itself is also great! Two seperated bedrooms, small kitchen with everything you need, including a dishwasher. Big windows spend enough light inside. If we ever come back to Amsterdam we sure come back to BK48!

Great place to stay | 1 March 2011
Sarah Kemp

We had a great stay on BK48 houseboat - it is in a brilliant location to enable you to walk all over the city (even in the snow on our first day). Very clean and comfortable and we will definitely be back as we did not manage to see everything in our short stay. Would thoroughly recommend it.
Thanks.

The houseboat was a lovely place to stay and a brilliant location, very warm, clean and modern. The free WIFI was excellent too. The only downside was the shower that is badly in need of some attention as doesn't work very well. Also, if more than 2 people are staying on the boat, a second set of keys would be a very good idea.

Noel 2010 | 31 December 2010

Lovely Stay | 27 December 2010

We had a lovely stay on Houseboat, it was warm, fairly clean and lots of space easily for 4 people. On arrival it would have been nice to have a introduction to the boat either by person or manual. It took us quite a while to work out the oven on the first morning. The boat could have been cleaner on arrival but the standard of dec oration was very pleasent.

I would visit again as the location of the boat is right in the centre of everything. however the access to the boat is steep and in damp weather can be a challenge.

Houseboat BK48 | 8 November 2010

Wonderful. Family of 4 (children 10yrs and 13yrs) stayed 4 days/3 nights October school half term. The boat is is a great location just across the canal from Rembrandt House but still very quiet and peaceful. The boat was clean and tidy and lovely and warm. Very welcoming and made the perfect base, giving lots of space compared to a hotel, especially with children. Bedroom at front had 2 beds, one double and only slightly smaller double on upper level reached by ladder (youngest daughter loved this). Large fully size bath and shower, again very good.

Easy to find, directions very good, we walked from Central station 10/15 mins and got the Metro back. The Metro station is less than a minute away.

Did not hear any noise from Richard, the owner, who lives to the back of the boat. Great guy, very friendly and deserves all the praise for such a great boat.

Thanks from a great break in a great city.

Great Stay Afloat | 13 October 2010
Perry Ippolito

We had a great time aboard this canal boat. It's in a great location near Rembrandt house and near to grocery and of coure Puccini Chocolates. We ate several meals on board though we didn't cook any meals. The accomodations were very nice and we would not hesitate to stay there again. The owner is nearby and was helpful with our questions and assistance even arranging a taxi for us on our departure.

Fantastic stay! | 1 October 2010
Robert Meyer

Just returned from our vacation. Can't say enough about how wonderful Richard and the houseboat were. Terrific location, convenient to all the sites. Great advice about restaurants in the area and ways to park and ride in busy Amsterdam. The houseboat was perfect for 2 couples. Plenty of space, very modern, clean and comfortable facilities. We had rain for a few days and hanging out on the houseboat was a perfect way to relax and still be at the center of the action. The price was better than a hotel.
Would highly recommend this houseboat to Amsterdam visitors.
Would use it again on our next trip to the Netherlands.

Review Houseboat BK48 | 27 September 2010
Stein Anders Eriksen

Just came back after 4 wonderful days in Amsterdam. We stayed at Houseboat BK48, and trust me - you get your money's worth! It's pretty big, with 2 big bedrooms (one even has a built in alcove where 2 more people could fit), a big nice kitchen-space, nice living-area with a cable-connected TV and DVD-player and a nice bathroom with both a shower and a jacuzzi. Highly recommended!

A Lovely Surprise! | 25 July 2010
Amber

Staying at this houseboat was a true highlight to our Amsterdam adventure. We weren't expecting much, but were so happy to find that it was so fabulous inside! So much character! The beds were very comfortable, and the size of the interior was so much BIGGER than we imagined it would be. The bathroom was also a very nice size, and having both a shower and a tub was an unexpected luxury. The houseboat actually has a cute little kitchen that we should have made more use of. The location was actually pretty good for exploring. The price was very affordable, and we were quite sad to leave. Next time we will stay much, much longer!

Fantastic time and great boat | 14 June 2010
Aaron Madin

The boat is in a great location for all aspects of Amsterdam.

Although the canal is busy during the day (all of them are really) in the evening its very quite, you would not beleive your only a few streets away from the redlight district

I would recommend to any family or close friends to hire this boat as it offers some great day entertainment, night peace and great comfort.

Unique experience | 14 June 2010
Jennifer H.

We spent part of our honeymoon in Amsterdam and decided to stay somewhere unique. This houseboat definitely was unique, and is very nice inside. Richard (the owner) was helpful about any issues that we had (mostly minor--like the whirlpool jets, which he had fixed while we were out sightseeing one day), and also with recommendations for local restaurants and sites. One of the best things about this place is the location; it's right in the city center and close to great restaurants, bars, and grocery stores. The one drawback was that Richard was doing work on the other end of the boat while we were there, which was a little disruptive at times. But overall we had a great stay and would go back to stay again!

Stay 32t May- 2nd June 2010 | 3 June 2010
Liam McPherson and Family

First houseboat stay and yes we will be back! but lets get the few areas of improvement out of the way first!

the initial appearnce of the boat was alittle off putting - could have done with a lick of paint and a bit more welcoming on the deck . Steep stairs great for the nearly fir and we just passed.

However once on board ( after the initial shock that cleaning had not been done ( we were one hour early but boat not ready to 3.30p.m. ) we began to like it . Bathroom was excellent with piles of warm water and great an rather unusual shower and bath. both rooms spacious and the extra bed up in the second room loft was great for the youngest - could do with some curtains for the port-holes here since it is at road level).

kitchen fine for purpose and apart from lighting everything in working order.

the barge soon became e our own and we seldom saw the owner. Great in the mornings : awoken by the sun and boats passing by and relatively quiet in the night.

A great chill-out experience but make it pleasant the eye on top and a little more inviting ( and I cannot see where the barbecue - advertised would go!!)

Liam

Ferientage auf dem Hausboot | 19 May 2010
Monika

We were very happy with houseboat BK48. It was exactly as advertised. Great location and very comfortable.

Pretty but poorly maintained | 19 April 2010
Gavin Koh

Beautiful interior with whirlpool shower and three double beds. The location is very convenient and although the house boat is located on a busy canal, noise from passing boats is not a problem.
The main problem is that the owner has not maintained the property at its original high standard. Light bulbs that are blown are not replaced. The paint is peeling and the stickers on the glass are coming off. The shower door was hanging on just one roller and was ready to come off. A wooden step on the ladder leading to one of the beds had broken cleanly in two with splinters sticking out. The owner made promises to have these things fixed, but did nothing in the four nights we were there. Given that the price we paid was the more per night than for a serviced apartment at the Krasnapolsky Hotel (where we moved to after leaving the house boat), the owner's response was shockingly poor.

Long Week end in February | 23 February 2010

Very nice houseboat, in the center of the town, so it was very easy to visit Amsterdam.
The houseboat was very clean, the bathroom is great! The owner is a very nice person too.
A perfect week end

Happy New Year! | 8 January 2010
Gary

This houseboat is everything we expected and more! The beds were comfortable, the amenities were fabulous and Richard is wonderful! The location can't be beat if you are looking for quiet accomadations but close to the center. What a view we had of all the fireworks going off, but no crowd hassle! We will definately stay there again!

Week in Amsterdam 11/10/2009 to 15/10/2009 | 24 October 2009
Nordine Ockhuijsen

We stayed in the houseboat for 4 nights and it was wonderful. We were very happy with the accomadation as it was in a quiet area of Amsterdam, but 5 minutes walk to the centre of the nightlife.

The houseboat is 5 star and worth the money per night. We got to meet Richard the owner who made us feel all very welcome, and if we needed anything her was always available to assist. If this is your first time to Amsterdam take this opportunity to stay here as you will not be disappointed.

Thanks Richard and we will be back again.
Regards
Nordine

Hi, the location of the boat is very good. Very central but still no city noise, very pieceful area. The cleaning of the "flat" and the things in the kitchen (glasses) could have been better though.

We enjoyed our stay | 25 August 2009
Yoav

We stayed a family with 2 children, 5 and 8. The place can accomodate up to 6 people, there are 2 seperate rooms a small livingroom with a small kitchen. The fascilities are generally good, no airconditioning but the climite was fine. It's a nice experience for kids. The location in the city is very convenient, close to the metro, right in the center. The lintels are rather low, tall people beware! Reaching the rooms requires walking on a narrow path on the border of the deck without railing (might be unsuitable for people with balance deficites, elderly or very small children).
An interesting substitute for a hotel.

au coeur d'Amsterdam, Amsterdam au coeur. | 9 August 2009
Arrio Nicole

Lovely houseboat, great location | 16 July 2009
Dorothy Dunnell

The location is perfect: in the atmospheric heart of the old city, with just short walking distances to shops (a great bakery round the corner), places of interest, and maze of canals lined with typically picturesque houses. Though central, it is very quiet: when sitting out on the deck you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the bustle of the city without being overlooked or surrounded by tourists.
The houseboat itself was light and spacious, clean and comfortable; and the owner very friendly and helpful when we needed to chase up towels and hot water. The boat has been modernised and furnished stylishly. Lovely bathroom, neat kitchen and economical use of space to maintain simplicity. A minor detail: in the main bedroom, space was tight around the kingsize bed and we had nowhere to hang our clothes... some hooks would be useful! Access to the guests' entrance along a very narrow walkway along the side of the boat was slightly difficult for the two elderly people in our group, so it might be useful to provide infomation on accessibility for the elderly or disabled, as I'm sure there is quite a bit of variation from one boat to another.
We only stayed for 2 nights but wish we could have stayed longer. We'll certainly consider booking BK 48 again when we return to Amsterdam, and recommend it to our friends.

Tremendous time had by all! | 7 May 2009
Heidi, Chris, John and Sarah from Bolton, England

Thanks Richard for your hospitality last week.
This houseboat is tremendous, spacious, incredibly well designed and comfortable. Even better it is moored in about the best spot you can be moored in- right in the middle of it all but with the benefit of it being serene and peaceful at night.
The bedrooms are spacious, with very comfortable beds, the living area cosy and the kitchen as well equipped as you want it to be. The bathroom is well turned out as well although if we had a niggle at all it would be that the plastic facia on the toilet flush kept breaking-easily fixable though which Richard did without hesitation.
There was no cd player-though Richard said he would replace it but we really didn't need one as we had ipod's etc. But you're not coming on holiday in Amsterdam for these things, are you? Seriously though, these things really don't amount to a hell of a lot and certainly didn't put a dent in our stay.
You get a lot of boat for your money and the feeling of living in this area on a houseboat like all those you will see around you comes as close to experiencing the real Amsterdam as you're going to get.
The smug enjoyment to be gained from sitting on drinking, drinking a cool Heine and waving majesterially at the passing crowds in their tour boats is worth the price of admission alone.
In short, if you are looking for accomodation in Amsterdam and you're looking for a houseboat (which your being on this site its a fair bet you would be) then your search is over.
Get it booked!

Geweldig ! | 1 May 2009
fam. Hanegraaf

Van 27-29 april 2009 verbleven we op deze boot. Ideaal !

This stay in a houseboat was delightful; we appreciated silence, design, comfort-...We regret that the jacuzzi was obviously out of order, or we had no precise explanations about the way it worked...-but the shower was also a pleasure....We 've already recommended this adress to good friends...

This fabulous houseboat is ideally situated on charming and romantic canal in the heart of Amsterdam within walking distance to many sights and attractions. It is very comfortable and well equipped with every facility to make your staying enjoyable.
Richard, the owner, was more than friendly and helpful. He has helped us to get back a souvenir which we had left at the houseboat and gone from Amsterdam.
This was one of the best holidays we have had. We all have left parts of hearts back in Amsterdam.

Clean, well furnished, in a great position to visit and to live the city
Is the ideal way, for young people, to enjoy the city as a citizen of Amsterdam.
Mr. Jonkman, the property was very available, kind and never intrusive.
I reccommend this accomodation to all young people like us!!

WHEN WE BOOKED THIS BOAT I THOUGHT IT WAS TOO GOOD TO BELIEVE, AND I WAS PROVEN WRONG.
THIS BOAT IS AMAZING, WE LOVED IT WE DID NOT RELISE THAT AMSTERDAM WAS GOING TO BE AS COLD AS IT WAS AND THE FIRST THING WE NOTICED WAS HOW
WARM THIS BOAT WAS, IT WAS CLEAN AND TIDY AND JUST LIKE THE PICTURES ADVERTISED, OUR HOST WAS AMAZING AND VERY HELPFUL.
I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND THIS BOAT TO ANY ONE.

IT MADE THE START OF OUR HOLDIDAY VERY SPECIAL

THIS BOAT IS ALSO PERFECTLY SITUATED, EASY TO GET TO FROM AIRPORT AND WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE TO NEARLY EVERYTHING, WITH THE CANNAL BOAT STOP 100M AWAY
THANKS VERY MUCH
CHRISSY

Fabulous place to stay in Amsterdam | 10 December 2008

This boat was brilliant for us. I have family in Amsterdam and they all agreed the location is stunning right in the heart of the prettiest part of the old city. We could walk everywhere (though the metro station is very close if it's raining) and every journey was through pretty streets & canals. The canal itself is pretty enough for the tourist boats to include it - the whole canalboat experience is really cool. Uniquely Amsterdam

We are a family of four on a long trip and the boat was warm, spacious and modern giving us a real break from cramped hotel rooms. It has 3 double beds (one up on a mezzanine) meaning our kids got separate beds for a change. Because we ate on board it probably worked out cheaper than a hotel (and was certainly more pleasant than the cheap hotels right by the ring road). Despite being really close to lots of nighttime action, it's amazingly quiet at night - the most disturbing noise was the ducks!

Only quibbbles were an occasional nasty smell from the pipes and the internet connection went down on our last day. But Richard is really considerate and helpful so any problems were quickly sorted. He's also scrupulously honest - i overpaid and he made sure we got the money back.

In summary - a unique Amsterdam experience and refreshing break from hotels at a reasonable price. Recommended highly

3 NIGHTS IN AMSTERDAM | 25 October 2008

We had the pleasure of spending 3 wonderful nights in Amsterdam and staying on this fabulous houseboat. It had everything we needed onboard - well equiped kitchen, beds were so good we slept like babies, living and dining area was very comfortable and the bathroom was great - loved the shower!!

Our friends from Germany came to visit us for a day and they were very impressed with our accommodation and indicated they would be looking to stay there next time they are in Amsterdam instead of booking into a hotel, which they had on this occasion.

We would definitely stay there again it is fabulous accommodation.

Hopefully we will return next year. Thanks again for a great place to stay , Billy and Arlene

This was a very clean and well fitted houseboat, centrally located and gave us a base for a very relaxing break. The owner, who also lived on board was very accomodating, ensuring our stay was good.
Our only concern was the access onto the boat. One of our party has some mobility problems which challenged her access to the accomodation. I also was concerned at the narrownes of the deck leading to the accomodation, which had no safety rail. We managed, and none of us fell in the canal, but a word of warning or safety rail would have been reasuring. I am aware of other people that would not have managed and arrival at the boat would have been too late to rectify.
However this did not significantly impact on a very pleasant stay, and I will certainly recommend this unusual base to friends.

Our stay in Amsterdam was great. Inside the boat it was very nice an modern for 4 adults. The text for the boat is: "On the deck there are chairs and big cushions to sit down and enjoy this magnificent view of Amsterdam", that is not right. On "our" deck it was just a bench made of wood for two persons, but it was nice to sit up there and watch all the canalbuses on the canal and the people around. To go beside the boat to come down to our cabins was not very easy with all the luggage, but the owner was helpful to carry for us. The boat is laying central and close to everything, and we are very satisfied at all. We loved oue stay and hope to come back.

Who would believe that when in our central location in Amsterdam we could find such quiet privacy! The location of this houseboat is central to many sites. We walked all around the canals and visited attractions....but when we settled down inside, it was quiet, roomy and very comfortable. Can't wait to return! Thanks, Richard!

Four of us stayed for 7 days in this wonderful converted barge in the canal close to the center of Amsterdam. Easy access to the metro tram, train station, and the Rembrandt house. Great view and location. Comfortable and roomy for 4 persons. The amenities were terrific. The owner Richard came to see us and ask if all was well and left us to our privacy the rest of the time. We sat on deck watching the canal tourist boats pass by and saw the activities all around us.

This was a great way to spend time in Amsterdam. Close to bars, and grocery stores and the open air market this was a terrific place to be. I will return in two years and hope the boat will be available then.

Fantastic and Unique Amsterdam Experience | 6 April 2008

email: r (dot) pauw2 (at) chello (dot) nl

Days before our actual stay I had a quick peak of both the location of and houseboat BK48 itself at the end of the Oude Schans. Then I already felt happy to see and have a good feeling this would be a fantastic place to enjoy Amsterdam during day light & in the night.
When I arrived with my german party we all were very pleased to find out what was on board and how it was designed internally. It really offers an excellent opportunity to experience Amsterdam in an unusual and unique way.
We want to thank Richard for being open and friendly when we actually met him that Saturday afternoon. All the staff was very helpful indeed!
The only thing my german party told me as they were thanking me for arranging this whole long weekend for them that the "patrijspoorten"were a little bit high for them to look at Amsterdam scenery during e.g. breakfast. Also they had some difficulty in getting the heating just right, so they told me. But again everything else is very ok!
Thanks, till next time
Best regards,.

Having stayed in a similarly priced hotel in amsterdam before, I can absolutely recommend the houseboat. It was in an excellent, really convenient location. A very short walk from the red light district and dam square but very quiet. Close to a supermarket, shops and restaurants.

The accomodation was of a really good standard, and as a group of 4 it was great to have a communal living area to relax in. We all loved the boat and can't wait to go back.

You won't find a better place to stay and see Amsterdam. You can walk or tram to anywhere in the city from this great location. The boat itself is like living in a gun safe because it's all metal and locks up tight. It has heated floors and a nice jetted tub. It doesn't sway in the water even though many boats pass quietly by. What hotel room lets you feed swan outside a window(or porthole)? It's a one minute walk to bars and coffe shops( don't eat the soup at the Bluebird). My only concern is I'll soon have to book a year in advance to rent it again! Richard Jonkman is very friendly and hospitable. Checking out Amsterdam from this great houseboat should be on everyone's list of things they must do before they die!

Hallo,

My Husband and I stayed on the house boat for a week. It was very clean and spacious. The location was very close to Metro stops and the Red Light District. It is located in a safe part of town and easy to get to. The owner lives on one half and rents out the other. One thing we did not like was the plumbing. We woke up one morning to find the system had backed up...and there was sewer water all over the bathroom floor. Other than that we loved it and would definitely stay again!!!

Four of us stayed in this beautiful houseboat and found it really spacious, comfortable and conveniently located for all of Amsterdams amenities. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definetly consider returning if we were ever to visit amsterdam again. The only minor downside to the houseboat was that we found it slightly ill-equipped in that it had no kettle, washing machine and not very many saucepans! However as we only stayed 5 nights this wasn't too much of a problem. Overall we would thoroughly recommend it to others and had a really excellent holiday!

A beautifully refurbished and rebuilt boat in the heart of AMS – roomy enough for 4 adults. The rooms/kitchen/bathroom were very clean, comfortable and organized. Richard, probably the youngest landlord all over AMS, is very attentive for his guests’ needs. ATM, bakery, pub etc. are all within little walking distance. Sitting on the deck watching the canal life almost makes you forget that you could also go out and explore the city.

We had a fantastic time and will surely come back. Richards, thanks!

Our family of 4, including two young boys aged 6 and 8 loved our stay on the houseboat! The location was fantastic, even our kids could easily walk to to Station Centraal, Nemo, Artis Zoo and Dam Square. There is a pulbic playground for them a few streets down as well. Also close by was the the Waterlooplein open air market and Gasson diamonds. The red light district is also only minutes away. Despite all the central location, it was actually quiet at night for sleeping.

We really enjoyed sitting on the deck watching all the canal boats and tours go by.

Amenities including a good supermarket, camera store, bank machine, bakery and pubs were all literally across the canal, a 2 minute walk.

The accommodations are very nice, with comfortable beds. Having two bedrooms is great for a family, and the loft in the kids room meant they each had their own bed. The bathroom was nice with the whirlpool tub and multi-nozzle shower. The kitchen was well equipped with gas range, microwave/convection oven, small fridge (no freezer) and excellent dishwasher. A few more kitchen utensils would be nice, like flipper for frying pans. However, when I asked why there was no coffee machine, Richard brought one over immediately. The tap water was very good for drinking. By cooking most of our meals in the boat we saved a lot on restaurants!

It was clean when we arrived and everything worked properly. I am very tall and the headroom is amazing in the main living area! The doorways are low but that is the only place I had to duck. It is very light with the overhead skylights and is very nice and cool even on sunny days with all the skylights and the portholes open.

We were very pleased with the accommodations and how helpful Richard was with any request. Although he lives in the other part of the houseboat, we felt we had great privacy. Our Dutch friends and relatives that have been on several houseboats were impressed by the living quarters and congratulated on such a great find. We would heartily recommend a stay on BK48 and would stay there again ourselves.

Great!! | 31 July 2007

We spent 4 days on the houseboat - 2 adults and 2 teenagers and the stay was beyond our expectations. The accommodation is spacious and clean with up to date appliances and services. The shower in particular is quite something. I have never seen a shower before that sprays water from every conceivable direction, including the floor! And with a built in radio to play music at the same time.

The location was perfect - only minutes walk from the centre, but on a quiet enough canal that we could also escape the hub-bub and relax. In fact we spent many hours on deck, relaxing with drinks and watching the various canal cruise boats passing by. The view from the boat was fabulous and faced onto a 17th century house, now a café and canal locks. The view also looks directly at the Rembranthuis. The host, Richard, was very attentive and took care of all of our needs in a responsive and professional manner. We would highly recommend this place.

We had a wonderful stay on BK48. The boat itself was spotless when we arrived and Richard, the owner, was there to greet us and show us around. There are lots of skylights on the roof, so the boat is light inside, even if it's raining. Each bedroom had a comfortable queensize bed; we didn't try out the loft, but I'm sure kids find it fun.The kitchen was well-equiped and the bathroom has a wonderful shower with massage jets and a tub with massagers as well. There was plenty of hot water.

The location is superb; we enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the canal boats go by. It is a stone's throw away from the Rembrahnt House and an easy walk to many parts of the city. We especially enjoyed our morning coffee at the Bluebird Coffeeshop and our nightcaps at a pub whose name I don't remember, but can't be missed since it is ancient, free-standing, and leaning to one side. You can easily spot it from the deck of the houseboat.

All in all, it was a fantastic experience, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay on #48 again on our next visit!

We very much enjoyed our holidays in Amsterdam on board innearly of the Rembrandhuis in the center of Amsterdam. This houseboat is so roomy and comfy that you really feel at home from the very first day. No overloading with furniture and gadgets brings out the best of his nice boat. What you need its all there: Well equipped kitchen with gas stove, a hightech dishwasher and the cooler/freezer. And there's a table big enough for four persons. The living room offers one big couch for sittin and another to lie on and there is also a screen tv-set and a multichannel audio receiver.

The sleeping room .The beds are big and comfortable, lets you fall in sweet dreams easely-

What a fantastic houseboat! The accommodations far exceeded our expectations. All new with heated floors and skylights that can be opened. Internet was great too. I can't say enough about the owner. This is a very attractive, light and bright boat. The accommodation is comfortable and well equipped. It is in a very central position, close to supermarkets bakeries and the metro. It comfortably accommodates four people and there is good seperation between the bedrooms. The internal doors have porthole windows which were not very popular in the bathroom. We hung towels over these to give a bit more privacy. We had expected two single bed in the second bedroom and, when we arrived, we found that there were two king sized beds, so the kids had to share. This is worth noting as some children might be unwilling to share.

All in all it was a fantastic location and a lovely boat. Everybody enjoyed it and we definately want to return to amsterdam and to this boat in particular.
