Perfect Boat and Location | 29 December 2011 Robin Williams
Just came home from a christmas break. The boat was beautiful and the extra touches for our christmas from the hosts made for a perfect vacation. The boat is a perfect size for 2 people with plenty of storage. The kitchen had everything we needed. Grocery and wine store were within walking distance as was the tram to the city center. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance. Don't miss a chocolate store called Pucci. I cant wait to return to this boat.

Feedback | 6 November 2011 Tina Winzar
We had a delightful stay on this houseboat. Romantically appointed and situated with the great option of just sitting back and watching the world sail by on the canal. Easy walking distance to different parts of Amsterdam ( a very easy city to get around). The kids really enjoyed bunking down in the hold.

Perfect for couples with young kids | 29 October 2011 Anne-Marie & James Lewis
If you are looking for a unique way to stay in Amsterdam then this houseboat on the River Amstel won’t disappoint...unless it’s fully booked – so if there’s availability then grab it! There are many houseboats in the city but this one must be amongst the elite having such a fantastic view of Amsterdam’s most famous bridge, Magere Brug, (aka‘Skinny Bridge’). This bridge is particularly pretty at night when it’s lit-up so you’ll resent having to close the curtains at bed-time.
We booked a long weekend in late-October and brought along our 3 year-old daughter. The weather was kind – glorious sunshine the entire time which added to the experience. The houseboat is reassuringly warm with central-heating – it was always cosy and warm whilst outside it was 12 degrees Celsius during the day. In fact the south-facing windows in the sitting-area can potentially make this boat too hot…having no air-conditioning means we wouldn’t advise staying here in the peak of the summer. The absence of an outside deck didn’t bother us in the slightest – this was actually a positive feature for us as we didn’t want to be worrying about our daughter wondering around outside. A few of the windows open fully which enabled us to get some air in the boat (much needed in the afternoon-sun) as well as providing an opportunity to feed the ducks and swans. There is a pair of local Mallards who will regularly approach the window and vocalise their requests for a snack much to our amusement. The coots are amusing too as they just seem to fight and squabble with virtually every other feathered species on the river! If you’re lucky you’ll spot 1 or 2 cormorants diving into the water. Such a pleasant place to do a bit of unexpected nature-watching in the middle of a city (there’s even a pair of binoculars available for guests to use).
We did plenty of sightseeing around the city. We’d recommend hiring bikes from the plethora of bike-rental shops, the nearest ‘Mac Bikes’ is adjacent to the Waterlooplein Flea Market just 6 minutes’ walk away. There are plenty of options for hiring different seating-arrangements for young children too, including hiring a ‘Bakfiet’ which is a type of cargo-bike which is capable of holding up to 3 young kids. Amsterdam is a compact city and you can reach pretty much anywhere by bike in less than half an hour. If you aren’t already aware, cycling is seemingly compulsory for Amsterdammers with excellent cycle-paths everywhere and there’s a tendency for foreign pedestrians to feel inferior (and vulnerable)! Just beware of the trams. Speaking of trams, if cycling really doesn’t appeal to you then using the Tram is the next best thing. The nearest tram-stop is 5 minutes’ from the boat (at Waterlooplein) and trams are very regular. There’s also a Metro but we didn’t see the point in going underground and missing out on the sights as you travel. If you’re feeling adventurous there are also canal-buses and water-taxis. No trip to Amsterdam is complete without going on a canal-trip of some kind (again plenty of options, you could hire a pedal-boat, take a canal-boat tour, etc).
Wondering what there is to do with young kids in Amsterdam? Once you’ve persuaded them to leave the on-board entertainment of this houseboat (feeding the ducks, laughing at the many bikes on the Skinny Bridge, watching the boats go by, waving to the rowers, cheering when the Skinny Bridge has to go up to let the tall canal-boats through, or just having fun in their little ‘den’ in the below-deck cabin), there’s plenty for the kids to do. We spent half a day at Vondelpark where you can cycle (or walk if legs allow) round the pretty lakes and it’s a great place for people-watching. There are 3 separate play-grounds, one of which is adjacent to a lovely café called the ‘Groot Melkuis’ (Milkhouse) where they serve plenty of snacks or hot meals – an opportunity for parents to relax whilst the kids play. There are several other cafes around the park including a Tea-House which looked good although we didn’t try it. Another good place to take kids is the Artis Zoo which is not far from the Jewish Museum (just a few minutes’ cycle-ride from the boat) and has all the animals you’d expect along with a couple of play-grounds.
Returning back to ‘our houseboat’ was always a pleasure and we’d find any excuse to ‘pop back’ and have a hot chocolate so we could sit and watch the fantastic view.
Here’s a low-down on the practicalities of the boat. We were welcomed with a bottle of decent French red wine and chocolates which was a nice touch. It’s excellently equipped with all the things you’d expect for cooking simple breakfasts or meals plus there are basic condiments provided including salt, pepper, cooking-oil, a few tea-bags, some filter-coffee, etc. Soap and cleaning products are all there not to mention a generous supply of towels. There’s also a hair-dryer, iron, and even hair-straightners. The owners have been very thoughtful to provide plenty of reading material on-board including guidebooks and fictional novels, along with a few board-games for kids. The boat is not really ideal if you’re planning on cooking 3 meals a day as storage-space for food is limited (the fridge is tiny) plus there’s no oven. The Bosch hob has 2-rings and there’s a microwave. There’s a decent filter-coffee machine and a kettle. There is a washing-machine on-board but unfortunately this was broken. The lovely owners Irwis and Paul were apologetic about this and left small change to use a laundrette (we were not told where this was) plus they offered to collect our washing and do it themselves. We didn’t want to bother them with this offer but their kindness was genuine and they really seem to care about the hospitality of their guests.
There’s a local Spar supermarket 3 mins’ walk away (be warned…unlike in many other countries it’s not open in the evenings and is closed on Sundays) and also a deli-syle supermarket near Waterlooplein (open til about 11pm and also Sundays). For eating-out there are several nice restaurants nearby (head to Utrechtestraat) if you don’t want to venture further into the city to eat-out.
Other things worth a mention: 1. There’s no bath but the shower is very good and the amazing view from the toilet (overlooking the canal-bridge to the Keizersgracht canal) makes you forgive & forget the fact that there’s no window-blind on that side of the shower-room. 2. The boat doesn’t rock (I get sea-sick and was pleased to find that this boat is very stable) and there’s just a very gentle sway just occasionally when large boats go by. 3. The internet wi-fi connection is excellent so bring a laptop/iPad to make the most of it. 4. The TV has about 30 channels including several in English (BBC News 24, BBC 2, CNN, plus a couple of documentary-type channels) and there’s a DVD player. 5. There’s also a small hifi with radio and CD-player.
So surely there’s a draw-back? Yes if, like us, you’re not an inner-city dweller and used to night-time peace and tranquillity then you might find you are kept awake by the traffic-noise and loud people passing-by late at night. We solved this by having some ‘white noise’ in the background (radio tuned out of reception would do the job; or using an appropriate app on the iPhone).
Overall, we would highly recommend staying here and it’s perfect for couples with 1 or 2 young children. We have vowed to return to Amsterdam and wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

Charming houseboat in the best location | 21 September 2011 Diana Nave
Three of us just returned from a 5 night stay on houseboat B033. After several days of touring Amsterdam, it was obvious that this houseboat had the best location of other boats. It was a single houseboat docked where others where 2 or 3 boats deep. You had the perfect view of Skinny Bridge, both day and night time viewing was amazing. Watching the bicyclists crossing the bridge was very entertaining and the nightime lighting was so romantic. A short walk to the Tram, grocery store, deli and cafes. Iwris was wonderful; she met us at the door with wine and fresh flowers. The houseboat was so charming and relaxing that we want to do another houseboat vacation!! I am sure we won't find one so beautiful or unique as this one. This was a vacation we won't soon forget. Thanks Iwris for your hospitality.

Better than venice | 14 September 2011 Helen merzliakov
This house boat was better than in our dreams. The boat spacious with high ceilings and tastefully decorated in keeping with old world charm. Nothing plastic here. Even the roses real.
The setting picturesque. A fairy land of lights at night. In daytime entertained by various working and party craft, including a brass band. Waterbirds came a calling for their daily bread. The boat is easy walking distance to the historical centre, cafes, restaurants and markets.
Iwris is a thoughtful and helpful hostess. Thanks for the wine and waiting for our late arrival!

1 August 2011 an
Fab time was had by the four of us on this lovely houseboat. There is enough space for four, although the space in the fo'c'sle was a little neat. Due to the deluges, we had a power cut, but thankfully this was sorted out very quickly, allowing us to have a shower before heading off to the wedding :-) The interior is lovely and the small kitchen allows cooking easy meals. It is a lovely, quiet place to stay, with lots of great restaurants and delis around Utrechtsestraat. Would love to stay again sometime. Thank you!

We had a wonderful stay at the boat. it has enough room for 4 persons (we were two couples), although you can´t close a door for the second bed, which is more a big box, then a room downstairs with two small windows, but still very cosy. we didn´t miss a balcony, since we sat on the railing. you have a really stunning look from the the eating/kitchen-room and the bigger sleeping/livingroom. loved it!

Houseboat B033 | 24 April 2011 JC
Can't imagine a more perfect place to stay in Amsterdam. Well equipped kitchen and nearby grocery store a plus. Lots of sunny space, comfortable sleeping, friendly ducks, quiet street. Beautiful view, passing canal boats providing ample opportunity to people watch, charming hostess, nearby bike rental. If there are nights available, don't hesitate!

Book it! | 14 April 2011 Peter
This is a gem. Only minutes from the Metro, ideally located in a nice and neat neighborhood, calm and cosy and with a splendid view to beautiful "Magere Brug" right from bed and sofa. We spent five stunning days in early april and enjoyed everything. There is a powerfull central heating and a shower with pressure and perseverance - and, of course, perspective over the Amstel. On arrival (we´ve been late) we had a warm welcome and evything was well arranged and "with love" (=flowers here and there, travel guides and other literature etc). Only downside: you will feel homesick when leaving this boat and start hoping to return... ;-) Thank you again Claire!

Fantastic stay | 17 March 2011 Jill Bloser
This is a fantastic way to stay in the city. First, the boat is in a great location. It is close to the metro station in a much quieter area of the city with very pretty canal houses and of course, there is the amazing view of the famouse Skinny Bridge which is beautifully lit at night. Nearly the enitire boat's interior is hardwood, including the ceilings. The bed is comfortable though we did not sleep on the downstairs bed. We did lay on it just to see how big it was (saw some earlier reviews that said it would be difficult for 2 adults) but we thought it plenty big. We are both very tall and had plenty of room. The shower, while very small, is modern with plenty of water pressure and hot water. There is a Spar grocery store right around the corner with a nice bakery to stock up for breakfast. The only semi-negative thing I can think of is that since it is right off the street, late at night you might hear a couple of loud people walking by. If you are a light sleeper, earplugs would definately help ( I always have them on vacation). And our hostess Nicole was delightful and helpful showing us around the boat. There are 2 resident black ducks that love to be fed bits of croissants and one day we had a couple of swans that ate out of my hand. What a treat. There is just enough room on the street side of the boat to put a couple of chairs but we found the river side of the boat much more interesting. There is a small, very sturdy wooden platform to sit on and enjoy the view. I would highly recommend this boat to anyone thinking of renting it.

A wonderful retreat | 9 March 2011 Crystal C.
Houseboat B033 was absolutely delightful. It is in a perfect location with an incredible view. We were afraid it might be cold and damp due to the cold weather but just the opposite. Inside was a warm, cozy retreat after a day of sightseeing and trying to stay warm. There's a grocery store within a 5 minute walk and the tram is also 5 minutes away. We arrived to a nice bottle of wine and fresh flowers. Our hostess was very friendly and we had everything we needed. I would definitely come back to the same place if we get the opportunity to return to Amsterdam.

Our Stay | 28 February 2011 Katie Jones
Our stay in Amsterdam on Boact B033 was great, the boat is cosy and very homely. The only negative comment was that the boat next door was being renovated during our stay (which we were not told about) and the builders arrived at around 0800 each morningand were rather noisy!!! Lets hope they hurry up!

Our stay on House Boat B033 was wonderful, it was relaxing and the best vacation I have had in my life! When we come back to Amsterdam we will stay on House Boat B033 again. The accomodations were the best, we had everything we needed, hair dryer, iron, flat iron, fully stocked kitchen, linens, adapter plug, TV/DVD, etc.
It was romantic, serene, peaceful and very memorable.

A little slice of magic | 13 November 2010 Robin Wheeler
A little boat that will steal your heart. There's something very magical about this delightful boat which creeps up on you and leaves you with a lump in your throat when it's time to leave. Perfectly located on the large Amstel river with truly lovely views from the front of the boat. Everywhere in the city centre is walkable and it's only 5 tram stops from Central station. A very special place!

One great boat! | 8 November 2010 Erik Henderson
I just spent 4 cool November nights on this wonderful boat. I've stayed on 3 others on previous trips to Amsterdam and I must say I was wowed by this one the most. It has such an incredibly warm, cozy atmosphere, is in a beautiful location, and is well equipped with amenities, including internet with very decent bandwidth - something I find frustratingly lacking in many accomodations. Also appreciated that the TV (a nice modern flatscreen) includes some English language channels, and comes with a good DVD player.
The boat's interior is so pleasant it was a daily struggle to get myself out on the town, and I found myself so happy to step back in after being out and about for a few hours. I could've easily lounged around on the boat for days! Its location right by the "skinny bridge" couldn't be better (enjoyed watching it being drawn up for the long freight boats to pass through), and with a rental bike handy I could get to anywhere in the city center in minutes.
There's a small health food store around the corner, and a little grocery store a bit further up from that. Everything you could want for the kitchen is available from them.
I have no gripes about anything. It was superb all around. Big thanks to the owners and Carolien for making it such a special place to unwind on holiday.

So much better than a Hotel! | 6 November 2010 Angela
We very much enjoyed staying on this houseboat. Great location, great views, a warm, cosy and comfy boat. Perfect for 2 people. The on-board facilities are getting a little tired ... could do with a new mattress. Also a sink plug, and an electric jug would have been useful. But no serious complaints. Would absolutely recommend this as a great place to stay in Amsterdam. So much better than a hotel!

Loved the experience! | 2 November 2010 June Perez
Truly loved staying on the houseboat! What a novel and rich way to experience a visit to Amsterdam, seeing so much of life from this different perspective. The houseboat is as charming as it looks in the photos, and the location is fantastic. Be sure to get directions to walk to the coffee shop in the morning ... yum ... and it's a great street for your local restaurants; all good meals. The shower was memorable, but the views make up for it!!

We have bee the first time to Amsterdam and on a housboat. Amsterdam is great, but having accomodation on a houseboat is even greater. For us it is the only way to explore Amsterdam...
Houseboat B033 was amazing. Well furnished, well situated and really charming. The welcome was more than warm and there was nothing missing - thankk you very much Caroline. Thanks to the bad weather we enjoyed more time than usual on "our" houseboat.
Next trip to Amsterdam will be in the same Boat agein.

Perfect. | 16 July 2010 Tammy & Dave
We stayed for 4 nights on this wonderful boat the third week of June. A friend of ours joined us for 2 of those 4 nights. It was a bit cramped for 3 but PERFECT for 2. The location couldn't have been better. Our favorite thing to do was to hang out on the houseboat and watch the world go by! I was concerned about it not having an outdoor space, but it did have a small platform to sit on off the side of the boat that worked great. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Amsterdam!

Houseboat B033 | 12 July 2010 Brian Blum
We just returned from our trip to Amsterdam where we stayed on Houseboat B033. The boat is charming and offers great views of the Amstel River. We were one block away from great restaurants, cafes and museums. It is also a three minute walk to a tram stop as well which allowed us easy access to the city. The boat was a good size for 3 people as it has 2 bedrooms. The downside of the boat is that it has no air-conditioning and it was in the 90 to 95 degree range the week were in town. In addition, ventilation is poor as the windows only open half way up the boat so even when it cooled down outside at night, it was difficult to get the inside of the boat to a comfortable sleeping temperature. The boat would be great in the winter, spring or fall as you can stay nice and warm while it's cold outside.

Exceeded expectations | 25 June 2010 Don and Sue Simon
Everything about BO33 was wonderful -- from its sweetly decorated interiors to its beautiful views and convenient location, we couldn't have asked for more. Though Amsterdam is a very walkable city, the 1 Euro Stop/Go bus at nearby Waterlooplein is a good alternative for those of us over-60-types who want to venture a little further than the neighborhood without walking our legs off. Carolien was a gracious hostess and we were sorry to leave, even after eight nights. We will be back. Many thanks for a beautiful and memorable holiday.

Comment of the houseboat | 10 April 2010 Beskid Ulrike

Great option in Amsterdam for families | 6 April 2010 Domenica from Seattle
We stayed for 4 nights over spring break at the end of a 2-week trip with our 3 and 7 year old daughters. Loved the beautiful and comfortable interior. Location was good with groceries (even an organic shop) within a block and major destinations a short tram/metro ride away. Loved sitting in the evenings watching boats go by, and felt like we were inside a postcard when the bridges lit up. Our girls loved their cozy bed, we loved having a private, romantic room to ourselves after they went to sleep. SO much better than a hotel for many reasons: privacy, quiet, can cook meals, do laundry, feed waterfowl. We couldn't find a better set-up for the price. And of course, jet-lagged kids can be up at any hour without bothering anyone other than a parent.
Consider bringing a laptop as internet cafes are hard to find and WiFi is easy to find.

What a view! | 15 March 2010 Noel
The location was perfect! Within close distance to everything but not too much traffic or noise. Right next door to The Hermitage and within a few minutes walk of many great restaurants and shopping. The boat was lovely as well. If you're looking for separate accommodations it's a bit unfair as one room is gorgeous and the other isn't a room at all but a dark (but comfortable) sleeping area below deck. The kitchen was well-equipped and everything was clean and welcoming. Overall it was great and I would recommend this houseboat to anyone!

Best weekend ever!! :-) | 21 January 2010 Sarah & Dave - Gar & Linda - Ireland
Hey,
Myself, boyfriend, brother and sister in law stayed on Houseboat B033 last weekend.
Couldn't recommend it enough!
The boat definately made the weekend....
Carolien was very welcoming and helpful, she left fresh tulips and a bottle of wine for us which was nice!
The boat was absolutely gorgeous with amazing views....
It really is perfect for a romantic break but plenty of room for 2 couples also or small family...
The pics look great but don.t do it justice, it actually is even nicer and bigger...
I'm already saving to go back!! Miss our little boat!
No complaints whatsoever:
It's spotless, cosy, great decor, plenty of room, spectacular views, great central location but quiet, great hostess, lovely and warm and it was snowing when we were there... so cold out!Lovely hot power shower andheated towel racks...
We only stayed for 3 nights but you could easily stay as long as you like and not get tired of it.....
I'm buying it if I win the lotto I loved it that much!!
Hope this helps if your thinking of staying here....
Hope you have a good a time as we did.... :-)x

Cosy Houseboat - Great Location | 30 November 2009 T. and C. from Mississauga, Canada
Had a fantastic week on Houseboat BO33. Superb location. Short walking distance to trams, metro, restaurants, shopping, bars, and cafes. Caroline was a very warm and accommodating host. A totally relaxing experience sitting on the couch watching the boats, ducks, coots, and swans go by. Internet connection was very good. Loved all of the Dutch people we met in Amsterdam. They were so kind and helpful throughout the trip. Would definitely not hesitate to return for another stay on this houseboat. Its the only way to truly enjoy the ambiance of the great city of Amsterdam.

A nice and cosy boat in a beautiful area | 22 October 2009 Tina Tiedemann
Dear all,
we stayed in May 2008 for 4 days on this boat. It's really nice boat. The location is very good. It' directly at the "Skinny Bridge". From there you are able to visit everything you want by tram or bicycle in a few minutes. Looking forward to stay there again!

Stay on Houseboat | 13 October 2009 Victoria and Patrick in Dallas, TX
We have been to Amsterdam many times but always stayed in our favorite boutique hotel on a canal. We have to say that we will never do that again, houseboat is the way to go! Whats better than actually being on the water? And the view would be hard to beat. We were surprised how quiet it was. You do have to buy some bread for the Coots, Mallards, and swans that swim up to your window. Will definitely be coming back to stay again. The only negative was the shower- quite small and it would fill up with water quickly so you do have to plunge the drain several times during each shower- but there was lots of hot water so that made up for everything else. We loved it!

Excellent Stay | 11 October 2009 Cheryl
B033 is an wonder property with an excellent host. I was concerned that the property did not have an outside deck; however, the closed in parlor was quite lovely and sunny. Caroline was warm and friendly - we had an electric fuse blow and she responded within a 1/2 an hour and fixed the problem. Property is in a nice neighborhood and pretty close to the tram for traveling to other parts of the city. There is a grocery store around the corner and a cafe on the corner. The houseboat itself was clean and sunny. Perfect for two people - a master bed and a separate bed below deck. Nice, but small shower - with plenty of hot water. We had never stayed on a houseboat before and did not know what to expect - I would not hestibate to book with Specialty of Amsterdam again and can assure anyone who is considering booking a houseboat and also considering B033 not to hesitate.

GREAT WAY TO DO AMSTERDAM | 28 September 2009 ANDY COBb
The houseboat is in a great location and has all the amenities of a home away from home. The only thing that we would like to see changed is the extra boat tethered to the river side of the houseboat. it adds extra noise and blocks some views.

21 September 2009 Rafael and Toni Sierra
9/17/09 - We ended our 2 week vacation on this wonderful houseboat. We had been to Amsterdam before, and always thought it would be fun to stay on a houseboat. Reading the reviews helped to determine which one, and i was sure glad we picked this one. It was everything they said, from Caroline leaving beer and flowers for our arrival, to the great breakfasts we had in the morning, while feeding the ducks. There were a few mean ones that chased away the black and white ones that seem to live nearby. After a day of sightseeing we would come back to the boat for our own "Happy hour" and watched all the boat traffic. Then back out for a late dinner. There is a great bakery, only a block away, across the bridge just before the Skinny bridge. We came via the train and the directions were easy to follow, great location! We hope to return someday!

Thank you for your welcome | 7 May 2009 Tristan HAMON
Thank you for your welcome. The boat was really wonderful, very quiet and well located. Our stay was very enjoyable: Amsterdam is a remarkable city where we hope come back again.
Maybe it would be interesting to rent your accommodation less than 4 nights in normal time, because our trips in European cities are often reduced to a weekend only.
Best regards,

Stay between 24-28 April 2009 | 29 April 2009 Cynthia and Allan Jewell
We had a wonderful time on this houseboat. It was in a superb location - central and yet quiet and peaceful. The Magerebrug at night was simply magical. The boat itself was very nicely furnished, very clean, very well equipped with plentiful linen and household items and supplies. We really appreciated the welcoming vases of tulips(and tins of beer!). All the equipment worked well. When the electrics failed one morning, the "housekeeper" (Carolien) was contactable on her mobile and phoned the owner who came over to sort the problem out immediately. It is only when something goes wrong that you really know how well your accommodation is managed and how good the service. We could not fault this houseboat and would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone thinking of an ideal place to stay and explore Amsterdam.

Lovely stay | 18 April 2009 Ali and Dave - Brighton, England
We have just returned from a three night visit to this lovely houseboat. What a beautiful place to stay! The panaramic views of the Amstel and Skinny Bridge are fanatastic at all times of the day and night. The boat is well equiped and has a charming ambience. It is a really special place to return to after exploring the city. We have stayed in lots of places throughout Europe and can honestly say that this boat is our absolute favourite.
Thanks to Caroline, who was most helpful and friendly.

houseboat bo33 review | 9 April 2009 susan l meyer email: s (dot) l (dot) meyer (at) sympatico (dot) ca
we had a fabulous time on this boat. it is clean, very comfortable and cozy and charming. Caroline (the boat s care taker) was kind enough to come by and receive our lost luggage when the courier called her instead of us by mistake. Centrally located, it meant we could walk almost everywhere and there was a spot to lock up the bikes we rented. If we wanted to take the tram we had a two minute walk to a choice of several tram lines. It was also very close to the hop on hop off boat line stop, also a fun way to see amsterdam.
lots of windows and unobstructed views out over the canal meant morning and afternoon tea was also a sightseeing adventure.
definitely did not want to leave and look forward to coming back at some time.
boat rental for accommodation was a very positive experience.

Houseboat B033 - 'Amstel' | 9 March 2009 Paul & Sasha - Brighton, England
As we turned the key boarding 'Amstel', we couldn't quite believe just what a gem we had found for our long weekend.
Centrally located, yet on the wide Amstel river it has a quiet and peaceful mooring very close to the stunning 'Skinny Bridge' which at night is even more so and is truly beautiful.
The houseboat is very comfortable with all conveniences needed to make it a base to explore Amsterdam itself or to simply stay in, relaxing with a glass of wine absorbing the atmosphere and gorgeous local architecture from your own sitting area. Slept like a log, partly from the walking we did and partly from the very comfortable bed. We didn't want to leave!
I'd thoroughly recommend 'Amstel' and will be hopefully returning in the near future!

Perfect stay on the Amstel | 2 March 2009 Duncan email: floatyboaty (at) yahoo (dot) com
This was our third boat stay in Amsterdam. BO38 and BO22 were both wonderful, but this one really took the cake. We could easily have just sat and watched the boats go past and people cycling over the Magere Brug all weeekend. The boat is immaculately furnished, extremely comfortable and nicely accessible. Really fantastic. 10/10.

Brilliant! | 22 February 2009 Jannie Corbet email: corbet (dot) valender (at) btinternet (dot) com
This houseboat was absolutely perfect for introducing my grandchildren to Amsterdam. What fun we had! They loved their 'cubby hole' three cornered bed, waving to the boatmen and rowers as they passed by and of course being able to feed the moorhens, ducks, swans and seagulls from the window. It was so warm and cosy and in the most magnificent position close to the Magere Brug which was beautifully lit up at night. Everyone in the Spar around the corner was friendly and helpful. Just a short walk to the tram stop meant we could get around the city quickly and easily. This is definately the way to stay in Amsterdam!

Superb Boat in a Wonderful Location | 19 February 2009 Kerry & James
My partner and I planned a long weekend in Amsterdam but wanted it to be special, staying in this lovely house boat was better than we imagined. It is so comfortable and cosy, with a stunning evening view over the illuminated bridge. It's position is ideal with easy access to all parts of the city, but in a quiet residential location. I could not recommend it more... it was great!

Honeymoon on houseboat | 11 November 2008 Lori Weber email: loriweber (at) healthsafety (dot) co (dot) uk
Our houseboat was idyllic and the perfect place to spend a secluded honeymoon. The views across the river were wonderful and to lie in the big bed and watch the boats go by and the skinny bridge raise itself to allow the tall masts through was truly great. The boat had everything and was so easily placed to walk to anywhere in the City - which we did! Thank you so much for a perfect start to our married life. David and Lori Weber. x

Wonderful stay. | 15 August 2008 Kirsty Mandorla email: mandorla (at) bigpond (dot) net (dot) au
We adored the houseboat. It had everything we needed, was delightfully furnished and perfectly located. We fed all the friendly waterfowl and ducks and enjoyed all the local shops and cafes. We didn't use the washing machine as we were worried the waterfowl would be affected by the soap - can't be nice to swim around in human's waste! There was a fantastic restaurant nearby, 'Segugio' Utrechtsestraat 96
1017 VS Amsterdam, +31 20 3301503 - best Italian food I've had outside Italy. Our son loved his little below deck cabin. It was a romantic and exciting way for us to start our European holiday. We'll definitely book this houseboat again!

Houseboat B033 | 13 August 2008 Jan Sterling email: jans (at) sterlingmed (dot) com
What a pleasant surprise. The Internet description is often inflated but not in this case. The location was perfect. Close to everything yet quiet and relaxing. We loved just looking out the windows at life on the Amstel River. The place was clean and well cared for.And it had Internet access. There is an obvious pride of ownership. Tram 9 from Central Station drops you off about 2 blocks from the door. A very large grocery is about 4 blocks away. The Mexican restaurant near the tram stop was a wonderful find. Rain or shine, this is a great place to stay.

What better way to see Amsterdam than from the very thing that makes it unique. Living on a canal in this beautiful houseboat is a holiday in itself and the pleasures the city has to offer are a bonus. Don't bother doing a canal tour as you can already see the highlights just outside your window. The houseboat was perfect for two adults and two children (8 & 5). There is a warm and cosy atmosphere with a well appointed fitout. Feeding the swans each morning from the bedroom window was a delight for our children and the smaller fore cabin was their private domain. Four days on the boat were not nearly enough and we would like to come back again.

House boat BO33 | 16 July 2008 Marcia & Bill Connell email: eieiohome (at) aol (dot) com
We had the most wonderful eight night stay on this boat. Being on the Amstel River gave us a very wide view of all the regular daily boating activitys. When we arrived Carolien was there to greet us and show us how everything worked, fresh flowers and a bottle of wine made for a welcome hello. The boat has all the modern conviences one could want yet feels as though you have stepped back in time. Dark wood floors, lovely antiques, two very comfortable beds and a view of the Amstel and skinny bridge. Amsterdam is a city of very proud people who work hard and play hard. It is my hope to return every year to explore this city of many hidden treasures.

Houseboat B033 | 8 June 2008 Eric email: eforslin (at) gmail (dot) com
While the Dutch weather wasn't exactly "cooperating" with our vacation plans, we had a very nice stay aboard Houseboat B033. The houseboat was furnished with everything we needed, and it's location is very convenient to the center of Amsterdam -- close to the tram stop at Waterlooplein and there's a bike rental shop just around the corner. Additionally, our host Carolien was very helpful in pointing out some of the shops and points of interest in the neighborhood, and everything was clean and in order when we arrived. One nice "Extra" was the close-up view of Magere Brug illuminated at night.

It made our holiday. | 30 March 2008 sarah wake email: sarahmariawake (at) hotmail (dot) com
Choosing to stay on a houseboat was something we decided to do on our last trip to Amsterdam 5 years ago. It was everything that we expected but so much more romantic. It was warm cosy and inviting. It was clean and well equiped. We experienced a few minor problems but these were swiftly dealt with by Paul the owner. The location was fantastic and the view was lovely. The activity up and down the river kept us amused as did our frequent visits from the duck families. (The weather was extremely cold and it snowed every day) The restaurants, cafes and bars nearby were all very good. It was easy to walk to almost everywhere. We had a great time on boat B033 and certainly plan to return next summer if not before.

We absolutely loved having our galley full of Dutch gin and yummy cheese to enjoy in the aft salon quite literally in the shadow of the skinny bridge. If you love privacy and feeling like a neighborhood resident this is the experience for you. Sacrificing the phone and concierge was not a problem. Cold, windy and rainy March weather was our only challenge but the boat was warm and cozy. Thank you, Carolien.

Our stay on De Bolder was amazing! The boat is beautiful - it's in impeccable condition, very nicely decorated, and the bathroom and kitchen are modern and more spacious than you would expect. The views of the Amstel and the surrounding houses are unbeatable, something you can't get in a hotel. There were four in our party (two couples), and although the beds aren't equal in size - the front bedroom is huge and gorgeous, while the second bed is in a little cubby-hole that is literally the size of the mattress - our friends were very happy with their tucked-away bed. Carolien was very nice and made everything easy. We would definitely stay there again!

Romantic boat in great location | 4 March 2008 Carey Edmeades email: edmeadescarey (at) hotmail (dot) com
This houseboat is in a great location with views of two light up bridges, there are ducks and swans who come by for a treat. We were on it during a bit storm and it was very romantic. This boat is so great that it makes you almost not want to leave to go see all of the wonderful sights of the city. It is close to the ballet, there is a great restaurant on the corner and a store nearby for groceries. You can walk anywhere from it and we rented bikes a few blocks away and rode them for the three days that we were there. This is our second time on a houseboat in Amsterdam and we would go back to this great boat.

Perfect! | 6 January 2008 Danny email: smith_28031 (at) yahoo (dot) com
I stayed on the houseboat B033 in early December 2007. It was exactly what I'd been looking for and more. I was trying to get away for a few days, write some music (guitar), relax and recharge my soul. Upon my departure, I had accomplished this and more!
The boat is excellent for 2-3 people. You have to consider that this is a boat and everything is usually smaller on a boat, (i.e. bathroom, kitchen, etc). However, the master bedroom is spacious.
If you stay here you'll find yourself looking forward to being back in the boat and enjoying the scenery from inside out. It's completely different prospective.
Everything you need is in the boat and it very clean. The kitchen is small and there is no oven. There is a 2 burner stove and microwave was all I needed. Fridge is small but served my purposes. Grocery store, restaurants, train stops, pubs are all within 1 block. The neighborhood is peaceful, safe and quiet.
I will definitely stay here again on my return trip. Funny, reading the guest book it's seems that everyone loves this little boat and look forward to returning...and many do...I know I plan on it.
I highly recommend this boat…for sure...thanks -- Danny

We stayed for a long weekend and loved every minute. The boat was everything we expected and more. It was well equipped and very cosy - we were there in November and it was cold but on board it was warm and comfortable. It was very relaxing being on the canal but within easy reach of everything we wanted to do and see. It was particularly beautiful at night when the bridge was lit up. We both enjoyed it greatly and when we come back we will definitely stay on a houseboat rather than a hotel and preferably on the same boat. Thanks for a great time.

Home away from home | 28 November 2007 Deanne & Brianna email: lifebythebeach (at) comcast (dot) net
To all who are considering a stay in Amsterdam a house boat is definately the way to go. This boat in particular is in an amazing location with a view of two bridges lit up in the evening. It is around the corner from a market to get snacks for the boat and within walking distance to all the tourist attractions. I stayed on the boat with my 12 year old daughter and we loved the experience of living like a local. As a matter of fact we would find every reason to rush back to the boat and just hang out. We have traveled a lot and found our time spent on this boat to be one of our best experiences. The boat is very cozy and feels like a home away from ome. We lit candles and sipped hot chocolate and watch the world go by. A stay on a house boat is the only way to see Amsterdam. If you have children they will love the boat! My daughter said it was the high light of her trip and we went to three different countries this time around. We rented bikes at Mac bikes up the street and loved riding around like the locals. We checked out other house boat locations from this site to see if we made the right choice and found that we liked our location the best. A sincere thanks to Caroline the hostess for all her helpful information. Any questions feel free to email us.
Sincerely,
Deanne and Brianna

PS My daughter wants to remind anyone who stay to please feed her duck friends!!!!

What a great time! | 15 October 2007 Michael & Eileen email: winkler4 (at) gmail (dot) com
The houseboat was a perfect way to visit Amsterdam. The location on the Amstel river put us out of the hustle of downtown, but we were so close to everything! The houseboat was a perfect retreat after long days and nights of exploring, eating and siteseeing. We felt very comfortable, and in fact, called the boat "home" several times.
When we return to Amsterdam, or visit other cities in Europe, we will certainly try to stay on a houseboat.
Thanks!!

We arrived late in the evening,as the no. 9 tram is out of order at present;rather take the metro.Carolien still waited for us.What a warm welcome!A cozy boat, 2 beers,Dutch cookies, and juice for our 10 year-old daughter, who loved sleeping in her 'corner' bed. It rained quite a bit, but the boat is dry, and the heating is efficient.Other than a tight squeeze in the shower for a tall husband, the boat had lots of room. A much better bet that a hotel room. Quiet at night, yet lots of activity over the Magere Brug at night, beautifully lit up, and lots of boats to watch while eating breakfast. Highly recommended for a novel stay with young-ish children.Close to main attractions, safe to walk back to in the evenings after supper.A supermarket around the corner.Very handy to have the washing-machine.

Dear Carolien/Wendy,
Just a quick note to let you that we had an AMAZING time on Houseboat BO33! The boat was SPECTACULAR!! In fact, I would say our 4 night stay on the boat was the very best part of our 2 week honeymoon.
I couldn't have asked for a more romantic setting or accommodations. We definitely plan on returning to Amsterdam and will absolutely stay on a houseboat again.
Thanks to you both for everything. I will recommend your site to everyone I know!
Thanks again.

The houseboat was above and beyond what we imagined. Its location was perfect witih a lovely view of the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge). The houseboat was well-equipped with everything we could possibly need and it was clean and tastefully appointed. Our hostess, Wendy Hogema, immediately made us feel at home and even made us coffee to warm us up from the rainy trip from Central Station. Our stay on the houseboat made our visit to Amsterdam unforgettable. It enabled us to experience life on one of Amsterdam's waterways and live like a local! I must say that the people in Amsterdam were extremely friendly and helpful. We recommend this houseboat without reservation.

This was our second houseboat stay during this visit to Europe. 4 weeks prior we stay in a houseboat on the Binnen Kant. Oddly enough, both houseboats were managed by the same lady -Caroline who is a wonderful hostess! Both boats were wonderful, quiet and relaxing places to stay. This was our second visit to Amsterdam in two years and we stayed in houseboats both times - it's the only way to go. I'm sure all houseboats in your listings are equally nice. We will favor these two units (B033 & B026) because we were so impressed with Caroline's hospitality. Speaking of which, we would like to contact her. Can you provide us with her e-mail address? I'm sure you will be hearing from us in 2009 when we plan our next visit to Amsterdam.

the Amsterdam experience from a boathouse | 15 July 2007 Gilly Robertson email: gilly007 (at) aol (dot) com
What a wonderful experience!
I've been to Amterdam on many occasions, but never lived in a boathouse before.
When we arrived on Sat, we were greeted by our host, the lovely Caroline, and everything was perfect. Although we just used the house for a base, we stocked up on provisions from the little spar shop round the corner for late night time!
We found ourselves walking everywhere from the houseboat,as the amstel is so central. One very favorite walk was up kerkstraat(over the skinny bridge to the right)turning left onto utrechtsestaat then after the flower shop, a good little bar does brekfast to 12, then onto the Prinsengracht canal, which in our opinion is the nicest canal. One word of warning, Anne Frank house in on the right hand side of the canal from this angel, as the nos make you think it's on the left side.
Best bit of the houseboat:feeling you're right in the heart of everything, the canal at the weekend was great fun, and full of activity, but very peacful at night.
Full marks!

We stayed 17-24 June. The houseboat was clean and pleasant and in a good location. The best 2 things about it were the view of the bridge and the comfort of the bed!
I thought I would mind the missing terrace but you don't miss what you don't have!
On hot days the sun makes the sitting area almost unbearable (more blinds needed perhaps?), but we had an awful lot of rain too and spent a lot of time on the boat!
Pair of moorhens living next door found a slice of bread most welcome a couple of times a day, and a mum duck came around occasionally with her 2 babies.
We were so hot and bothered when we first arrived we couldn't remember a thing Carolien told us so I think maybe some written notes on nearby shops etc would have been most welcome!

Great Time on Houseboat B033 | 16 June 2007 Jim Pierson-Perry email: corwin4077 (at) comcast (dot) net
We just got back from spendnig a week on houseboat B033. Everythnig about the houseboat was wonderful; from he warm welcome by Caroline, through the accomodatinos, and the location itself.
The houseboat is only a 3 minute walk to the Waterlooplein metro/tram station and is vey convenient for travel. There are a couple of nearby grocery stores and lots of restaurants. The veiw from the bedroom/sitting area is very nice -- especially at night when the bridge and canals are lit. Outside of some very small waves when a big boat went by (infrequent) we never noticed any rocking motino. My wife is susceptible to motion sickness but felt great for the entire week.
Everythnig we needed was onboard and the bed was very comfortable (better than most hotels I've stayed in). We even had a ducl family that "adoted" us for daily breakfast and dinner.
Overall we had a great vacation. Caroline is a wonderful and very helpful hostess. We look forward to returngin ni the near future.

Houseboat B033 | 28 May 2007 Geraldine Philip & Richard Armitage email: rich (at) armitage2004 (dot) freeserve (dot) co (dot) uk
Just returned home from a truly wonderful time on the houseboat. My first trip to Amsterdam and I would love to return. On entering the boat I was overwhelmed by the beautiful decor and the cosiness of the interior.
Its location is perfect for sightseeing and coffee bars and restaurants.
We were out most of the 3 days sightseeing and cycling around the city but I would have been perfectly happy to spend more time on the boat just relaxing and watching the world go by.
Only downside was no where to sit outside in the evenings but it did not spoil our enjoyment.

Very impressed with this cute and cozy houseboat. The location couldn't have been better--easy walking distance to the tram, many wonderful bars and restaurants, the RLD, outdoor markets and canal cruising companies.
Unfortunately, the terrace had to be removed which meant there was no longer an outdoor sitting area. A big disappointment as the weather was most favourable and we would have enjoyed sitting under the stars.
Overall, I would highly reccommend this houseboat for it's location, quaint decor and waking up without backpain for the first time in ages! I certainly hope to return.
Thanks for everything, Caroline!

Plus and Minus | 14 May 2007 Kate and Stephen Smith email: scsgooner (at) kswilts (dot) waitrose (dot) com
A tranqil and relaxing setting and comfortable accomodation which is excellently located for non city centre bars and restaurants.
However it was a drawback to be awoken each morning at 7am by the noise of the building work taking place in a property immediately adjacent to the houseboat that continued till 3.30 pm.
Further, the fact that the advertised garden terrace no longer exists and there is no other provision for sitting outside on the boat was a great disappointment as we had specifically chosen the boat for it's terrace.

April 3-9, 2007 | 16 April 2007 Linda and Bruce Prince
We did a lot of traveling on this trip to Amsterdam so would like to return to spend more quality time on the houseboat. We were delighted with every aspect of the place, its location, the ambiance, and watching canal life. Our friends who stayed in a hotel as 'they aren't houseboat people' were unhappy with their choice after seeing this extraordinarily charming accommodation. My son and his friends who are studying in the Netherlands this semester were also captivated. Carolein was very helpful and gave us a warm welcome with flowers and chocolate eggs.

Great houseboat | 19 February 2007 Louise Handley
We thoroguhly enjoyed our stay. The houseboat was ideal for a family trip to Amsterdam - good facitilites on board and a shop just around the corner. The view of the 'Skinny Bridge' was excellant and the area was quiet, but very near all the places we wanted to visit - either by walking or by tram.

Wonderful Time | 11 January 2007 Heather Connelly email: heather_connelly_art (at) yahoo (dot) com
We spent 6 nights on this amazing houseboat at the begining of January 07.
We got married on the 5th in Amsterdam at De Oloofspoort which was amazing and the atmosphere, location, space and views from the boat made our time there so special...such a romantic setting to come back to on our wedding night.
The weather was cold and wet but the boat warm and cosy..we didnt want to come back to the UK.
The Boat is great for entertaining...5 of us got ready on the boat before the event and we had our families round for lunch.
We cant fault it and I am sure we will be back!!!

We loved our 10 day stay on this lovely central houseboat in august 2006. The boat is perfect for two adults (and one child if they dont mind sleeping in the small below stairs bed) with port hole windows open in summer) Lots of fun to be had waving to passing boats and barges while sitting out on the small out dooor seatting area feeding greedy ducks and swans. The cooking area is compact and fridge storage is very very limited (room for improvement if storage on the boat was optimised). Decor good, but hated the guitar and parasole. Would rent this houseboat again if ever visiting Amsterdam just for the views and location alone. very friendly staff and good neighbours. Lots of fun.

This boat is probably one of the most pleasant amongst all boats I rent in Amsterdam since years. Located in the Centrum close to the Amsterdam's Opera and Rembrandt Plein its the right place to go shopping, museing, coffieshopping or conventionning to the RAI Exhibition Center.
The boat is a little bit exiguous for four adults but perfect for a couple and childrens. The bathroom is small but working altough that the shower door could be improved.
Carolien Postma, the owner is very attentive and warmfull.

houseboat | 18 August 2006
The place where the boat is staying is very beautiful and central. The furniturs and the atmosphere in the houseboat is grateful.
The boat is too small for four people. Especally the secound bed, the air in it was very bad. Its an ideal boat for two persons and one small child. For four persons, the kitchen and the table are too small to cock on it and hasn't enough things for cooking.
We've found the boat clean.

Watching Amsterdam go by | 6 August 2006 Sharon Graber email: skbgrab (at) aol (dot) com
Fabulous houseboat! Loved our stay. Great location - great view of the skinny bridge. We were there during the recent heat wave. Having the fan onboard made a world of difference. You might consider getting another one for the person sleeping below.
You might want to checkout the shower and the shower controls. I tightened them since just a slight joggle would either give you really hot or really cold water. It helped but there were still fluctuations in the water temperature while showering.

stay on Houseboat BO33 | 24 July 2006 Thomas Macha email: tmacha1 (at) comcast (dot) net
This was an excellent alternative to hotel accomodations. We enjoyed the Amstel river and relaxing and watching the life on the river.
The location could not be better suited for visiting and sightseeing Amsterdam. If not in walking distance, the trams were all close to our location.
Our hostess welcomed us with flowers and was very helpful throughout our stay. Our relatives who live in Amsterdam were actually impressed and envious of our houseboat arrangement.
All in all, this was a great place to stay. I look forward to an opportunity to return.

The houseboat was fabulous, all was as advertised, the location is perfect, the boat was comfortable, the terrace was super. The only problem was that the houseboat wasn't ready when I arrived at 15:00 as planned. I understand there are many spiders, but it didn't take long.

The houseboat provided one of the nicest experiences of Amsterdam I have ever had! Not only is the boat itself and picture of beauty but the view is spectacular. Gone are my days of uniform, cramped hotel rooms and I look forward to staying on the boat again sometime in the future. It's location was extremely central, the welcome warm and never any security issues.
Thanks again for the opportunity.

We stayed at this lovely houseboat May 10-15. Oh my god is all I can say after the sun went down and we had a view of the "skinny bridge" from the sitting room and our bed. I hope we go to Amsterdam every May and stay on this comfortable/beautiful boat every year. The location is perfect, the boat perfect, Amsterdam perfect, the people perfect, the food perfect, the nightlife perfect. In case you could not tell, I absolutley fell in love with the boat and Amsterdam. If you are thinking twice, please don't go.

Outstanding!!!! | 15 May 2006 Lisa Saums email: lisa_saums (at) sbcglobal (dot) net
We stayed on this houseboat for 4 days and it was just and outstanding experience! We will never stay anywhere else again when visiting Amsterdam. We had a perfect view of quaint streets in Amsterdam and loved seeing the skinny bridge lights from our bed at night. The location was ideal and we loved being a short walk from the interesting Utrechtestraat, Waterlooplein and other wonderful locales.
This houseboat was historical, tastefully decorated and maintained, charming beyond compare and very clean. We loved having our own kitchen and use of a washer too. The bed was extremely comfortable and much appreciated after 10 days of travelling in Europe and sleeping on beds that were lumpy and stiff like a board.
Carolien was a wonderful host and had a bottle of wine and fresh tulips ready for our stay! Couldn't ask for a better experience and the weather was perfect. You won't regret a stay on this houseboat!

This houseboat is gorgeous, well-appointed and perfect for a couple looking for a romantic break.
It's location is unbeatable, and you get to feed swans out of the window.
Though, if you are a light sleeper the moorings can squeal and groan quite loudly on a windy night!
Highly recommended.

To have the privilege to stay 4 days on this boat was really magical. It was a great experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on this cozy houseboat. The skinny bridge was a delight, lit up each evening by little white lights. In the mornings, we enjoyed watching out the window the "morning rush hour" of bicycles over the bridge with working parents and children off to school, while still comfortable under our duvet.
We entertained local friends who are living in the Jordaan district for an evening. They were so impressed with the boat and the ambience of the canal and bridge, they exclaimed that they might book a night just for a romantic get-away across town.

What a wonderful stay we had on this houseboat! The location is perfect--close enough to everything you want to see and do, but far enough away so that you can enjoy the peacefulness of the Amstel. The views at night and early morning are amazing. The houseboat is roomy enough for 4 people. Caroline is a gracious host, making us feel welcome and comfortable during our stay. We will definitely try to stay here on our next visit.

our stay on houseboat B033 | 2 November 2005 Marion Remmerswaal email: remmerm (at) euronet (dot) nl
We had a perfect stay in "our" houseboat on the Amstel. Inside it was very cosy, romantic and convenient, outsite on the river Amstel it was very entertaining to watch the boats and rowers passing by. The "Skinny Bridge" was terrific as well as during the daytime as during the night, with those many lights.
We rented bicycles in the Utrechtse Dwarsstraat for Euro 6,- per day which we used for our shopping on the Albert Cuyp market and for cycling around.
A lot of our friends from Amsterdam came visiting us because they were very curious how a houseboat looked like! They loved it. So, also for the people in Amsterdam it is an experience to visit a houseboat, believe it or not!
I was born and raised in Amsterdam and now live in the countryside. After our stay, Otto and I decided to make it a yearly tradition!

House-Boat Hotel accommodation B033 | 12 September 2005 Linda & Bob, Philadelphia, PA
This was such a lovely way to spend a week in Amsterdam! The location was wonderfully convenient, and after a few days my husband and I were recognized at our neighborhood grocery store and really felt like we were part of the city. The houseboat's furnishings were charming, with plenty of places to sit, converse or read. If you are a cook, however, you should note that there is no oven - only a microwave, 2 burner stovetop and small refrigerator. (We ate out most of the time -other than breakfast - so this wasn't a problem for us.) An electric water kettle and coffee maker are provided, as is a hairdryer. And my husband was especially appreciative of the internet access for his computer.
The main drawback was the Amsterdam weather the week we were there (late August, 2005). We had NO RAIN, and it was beautifully sunny with the temperature well into the 80's (F) almost the entire week. The houseboat was not air conditioned, so it was quite warm after being closed up all day while we were sightseeing. Once we returned and opened windows, however, if cooled down quickly and the evenings were delightful.
I was worried that the noise on the Amstel might be a problem at night, but this proved not to be true. The small bench outside to houseboat was a great place to have a glass of wine and watch the boats and sunset in the evening. We have some wonderful memories of our stay in Amsterdam, and I could enthusiastically recommend this houseboat.

Just like I did the last time I was here. Now I am the one in that envoious position. Thanks for offering such a nice boat at a great location. The Nicest Boat In Town! | 2 June 2005 Nicky Epton email: nickyepton (at) yahoo (dot) co (dot) uk
This was the second houseboat I've ever stayed on, both in 'dam and from this website. I said after the first stay that I'd never go back to impersonal drab hotels again, my stay on the beautiful BO33 only made me more convinced.
The area has such a lovely atmosphere with amazing cafe's, shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk, and central 'dam about 15 minutes walk away. Local artists and artisans add a special personable feeling and the 2 pretty little lifting brigdes top the whole experience off beautifully.
Although I'm completely in love with Amsterdam in it's entirety, I couldn't help looking forward to getting back to the boat to sit in the lovely bay window or on the little terrace. Both bedrooms were exquisitely decorated and made you feel like you were in your own private cosy world.
As you can probably tell, I couldn't speak more highly of the boat. I also can't wait to go back!
