Houseboat 24 was a great stay and Suzanne who owns the boat is a lovely lady who made us feel very welcome and was very understanding to our needs. Would definitley stay again.

Urlaub auf House-Boat B024 im September 2011 | 11 November 2011
Christine + friends

Excellent stay in Amsterdam | 11 July 2011
Jin Jen

We really enjoyed our stay last week in Amsterdam. The owners of the houseboat were very nice and the the boathouse was thoughtfully furnished.

It is not a fancy place, not a lot of views from inside but it is very comfotable for a family. It is also near the metro stops and within walking distance to a large flee market.

4 Nights in August | 22 August 2010
Fam. Priess & Schulz

We stayed 4 days in August on this houseboat and it was a great experience for us. We travel with two children 11 and 12 years old and it was a little bit of adventure holiday for the kids and for us. The location was good and we had a short way to the centrum of amsterdam with all the sights. In the housboat we find all important things we need for an easygoing holiday. We could recommend the houseboat, we love it.

Excellent Houseboat | 13 August 2010
Michael Cooke

Stayed for 4 nights. Thoroughly enjoyed the houseboat, especially the small deck overlooking the Amstel. The facilities on the boat were great; the kids loved it. There are plenty of good places to eat nearby, and the transport link to Dam Square by tram is very convenient. I can thoroughly recommend this form of accommodation.

Wonderfully relaxing holiday | 29 July 2010
Pauline Khng

We had a wonderful 4 nights in this houseboat and the deck with private outdoor space was crucial. I liked the potted plants on the deck even if they don't look at their best. The boat is located in an ideal place, not close to the congested tourist centre and Amstel being of one three largest canals gave you a sense of space. Our hosts were helpful and unintrusive. When we had a less than interesting canal cruise tour, I would even say distressing, with screaming toddler in push chair that his parents wouldn't pick up to cuddle, and because of the wailing, barely audible taped commentaries in English, Cantonese, French (OTT anyway), Susanne suggested hiring an eco-friendly (battery operated) boat (max 6 persons). We took up her suggestion and that wrapped up our holiday wonderfully despite some rain.

We had use of the internet too via cable (not that we wanted to use it much). The TV remote doesn't work but you can use the TV buttons, not that we watched much TV.

Access by trams 3 or 4 are convenient and though we bought a 72-hr transport pass we didn't use it that much as we ended up walking a lot and enjoying it very much. For the horrendous queues at museums, we wished we had anticipated that and bought tickets online (or from the tourist office the Central station).

We thought the boat reviews were too good to be true and bad reviews must have been jettisoned but in fact there was much to praise.

As all others have commented, the bathroom is spacious.

Lots of restaurants nearby, takeaways including Indonesian restaurants (Indo-Java, Puri, Sari Chitra - latter, a couple of tram stops further on no. 3, and doesn't reduce chilli level for the uninitiated, read 'authentic'). The other types of restaurants are self-evident.

All that said, we would recommend the houseboat highly. A hotel room for us is just somewhere to sleep but the houseboat was where we looked forward to returning, for a drink, a cup of tea, to watch the world go by and to read our books.

From London with thanks and good wishes:

Wonderful time on Houseboat 024 | 20 July 2010
Jeff & Kim Gould

We had a great time on the boat for our stay, 7-12 July, 2010, and just couldn't say enough about it. Plenty of space and all the conveniences of home. Plenty of stores, restaurants and pubs close by and only a couple of blocks from the tram line. Suzanne and Louk are great hosts and made our stay very nice. There was one small issue with the plumbing and Louk had it fixed right away. We had plenty of privacy and if we needed anything Suzanne was always available. If you want a memorable stay in Amsterdam forget about cold industrial hotels, stay on this boat and you'll get a feel for the real Amsterdam. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Thanks to Suzanne | 30 June 2010

The perfect holiday! The booking was easy and simple, the hostess was flexible and helpful. The boat is in a lovely location, convenient for two tram lines.

We were in Amsterdam to party, but it was wonderful to have a peaceful boat to come back to and sleep! It is very well equipped with everything you need for a self-catering holiday.

The deck at the back is the perfect place to relax and drink coffee (or beer) in the warm morning sun.

In one word.... brilliant!

A fabulous way to enjoy Amsterdam | 16 June 2010
Janti Wignjopranoto

Our choice to stay at Houseboat B024 was a fabulous way to enjoy Amsterdam. We came for the 10th Amsterdam International Tattoo Convention at RAI Congress Centre. So it was a trip for work and pleasure. The houseboat was quiet and serene most of the time free from the noises on the street or people.

The facilities in the boat were spotless and should we need anything to add, the owner just lived next door. Food was no hassle at all, there is a nearby supermarket and plenty of cafes and restaurant to cater everybody's international palette. We cooked, we took away food, we ordered some taco delivery - you name it, we did it!

Transportation was easy, too. within 5 minutes walk, there is a big crossing for trams going to 4-5 different directions. And the city can be reached within 10minutes tram drive, RAI is about 5 minutes away.

The only downside of this houseboat is the fact that it is parked next to the owner's boat. Therefore convenience to enter is a bit of a problem. Especially, we had so many luggages and work tools to carry. Otherwise, everything was just perfect!

So overall, I would go back to the houseboat and enjoy another perfect holiday!

Lovely weekend | 4 June 2010
Sarah

Many thanks to our hosts for making our stay in their lovely houseboat such a wonderful one. The boat is very nicely finished and well equiped, our 2 children (7 & 9) loved it. There is no better way to see Amsterdam than from the deck of a house boat - perfect!

I had a fabulous time on this houseboat. Suzanne welcomed us with a smile and a bottle of wine . The boat was home from home and i would highly recommend , the interior clean and spacious. The small terrace was cozy both day and evening we had our breakfast there, in the evening we opened wine and relaxed. Thanks for a lovely stay . CMPritchard.

gemütliches Hausboot | 7 May 2010

Great Boat, Great Location | 10 March 2010
Karen

I stayed on this boat for my 30th Birthday. A bit of a walk from the Centre but not too far and you can always get a tram or Metro if you won't fancy walking. The boat itself was great, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, DVD player, Stereo etc. All the makings for a great weekend of fun in the Lovely city of Amsterdam.

This was really lovely. It was a good location and we felt very comfortable on the boat, and were well looked after by our hosts.

Houseboat B024 | 30 October 2009
Bill Whelan

Staying at this houseboat was the best ever! Right on the Amstel River! It was warm and very comfortable and the layout with bedrooms at opposite ends is perfect. The bathroom was modern and very large for a houseboat. We were able to easily walk everywhere, from the nearby Museum Plein to the Centrum. It's the perfect location and the neighborhood is packed with bars, restaurants, shops, and markets. Susanne and Louk were the perfect hosts, meeting us at the arranged time of our arrival and helping us in any way they could.
Amsterdam stands alone among the cities of the world, but staying there on this houseboat makes your time there especially wonderful and unforgetable.

We had a fantastic time on Houseboat B024, so much better than a hotel room. Convenient for restaurants but also all the facilities for cooking onboard yourself.
Walking distance of almost everything you would want to see in Amsterdam but we recommend hiring bikes to get about while your there. The boat is fantastic as is the view onto the canal, my 9 year old son and I even had a swim in it while the traffic went past.

Fantastic Boat and owners | 21 August 2009
Steve and Chris Woods

We had the pleasure of staying on this lovely, well equipped and stylish boat and its owners Louk and Suzanne were the most friendly helpful people. The boat while situated on the busy Amstel was really handy for restuarants and a great little supermarket around 10 mins away in a safe quite neighbourhood and there was some meter parking right by the boat although we found that parking at the longer stay RAI car park was good value at 15 euros per day, the trams were briliant too and made getting around easy

We walked to all the main tourist attractions easily and after a long exhausting day exploring a beautiful city the boat was a real haven to come back and chill out on the deck watching all the boats go by, we plan to return in the near future!

Best way to stay in Amsterdam | 7 July 2009
Joe & Lucy Rigby

Very very nice hosts. Houseboat is in a great location, a very short tram ride to all the sights. This is the best way to see and experience Amsterdam. The Green House coffee shop nearby is excellent and there are a few very good restaurants - Hollandais and Eat in the Dark, which are away from all the tourists. Experience the real Amsterdam and eat and smoke with local Dutch people! The boat was in excellent condition with great amenities. WE WILL BE BACK! Staying here made our engagement even more special. Thanks Suzanne and Louk!

Thanks to Suzanne and Louk for hosting my friend and I in houseboat B024. We had a fantastic time. The boat is conveniently located in De Pijp. It made an excellent base of operations for our Dutch exploration. I would recommend it to anyone. Thanks so much!

Perfect way to enjoy Amsterdam | 3 June 2009
Jennifer

We all really enjoyed the stay on the houseboat. It was so much better than staying at a hotel. Every evening we would sit out on the deck and watch boats go by. It was a perfect way to relax and have some evening cocktails after touring the city. The location is great. It is close enough to the city that it's just a short tram ride, or even a short walk if you're heading to the Van Gogh museum. We liked the fact that the neighborhood was quiet though so that we could relax when we got home. There are still plenty of neighborhood bars nearby that are open late as well. It was really the best of both worlds.

The boat was plenty big enough for the 4 of us. The master bedroom was practically soundproof from the rest of the boat, unless the other guests are on the deck which is directly above the master bedroom. The only mishap is that we lost power running the washer and dryer at the same time but I called Suzanne and she walked me through how to fix it and it was no problem.

Overall we were all very pleased with our stay on the boat. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you,

Jennifer

Comfortable and well equiped houseboat with very helpful owner. Convenient supermarket nearby and easy tram links to the center of Amsterdam. Unfortunatly it was too cold to sit long on the roof and enjoy the beautiful view on the Amstel river. We must return in summer!!

This really was a great houseboat in a great location.....far enough out to be quiet at night but close enough to the sights. We spent many a night after a days sightseeing, on deck, watching it go dark and the lights come on. As its on the Amstel River, theres a fair bit of interesting traffic to see, from crewed rowboats to commercial barges.

Convienient and good quality supermarket 5 mins walk away and enough good restaurants across the river, via the lifting bridge, should you decide to treat yourself.

Not forgeting Louk and Suzanne who were really very accomodating hosts by being around if needed, but leaving you to get on with your holiday if not. Lovely people too, as are all the Dutch people we came across!

A real cosy boat in an ideal location in a great city full of nice people.......beat that!!!

my daughte, herpartner and i stayed on the houseboat and it was a great experience. The Boat was comfortable in a good location and made our trip to Amsterdam memorable. The convenience of getting up in the morning making coffee and planning our days activities riding around on our bikes knowing we could return to our space made our visit to Amsterdam outstanding. We would highly recomend a houseboat over a hotel and the boat we stayed on in particular. We were fortunate that the owners of our boat were friendly and helpful when needed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Amsterdam on this lovely house boat. It was conveniently located and had a beautiful view. We were very happy with it, and consider ourselves extremely lucky to have been able to visit Amsterdam in this way.

Excellent Adventure! | 6 December 2008

November 21-28

Suzanne and family,

My dad and I had the most incredible stay on this houseboat! It is so conveniently located and accessible! After only a few days we were able to figure out our way around the city very easily. The houseboat is so cozy, warm and comfortable and even in the rain and snow and wind, being out on the terrace watching the boats go by and the cars on the bridge was an awesome experience each night we were there. Everything provided for us on the boat was beyond our expectations and needs. We loved the Greek and Indian restaurants across the canal very much!

Suzanne is a wonderful woman and she made sure we had everything we needed! The gorgeous lilies and bottle of wine were promptly enjoyed. Many nights I reclined on the couch sipping wine or tea underneath the canopy of lilies, digesting all the beautiful and wonderful things we had seen in the great city of Amsterdam. I highly recommend the Van Gogh museum: if you only go to one museum in Amsterdam, that should be it!

The house itself is spacious, tidy and wonderful. The shower is an especially nice treat! You completely forget that you are even on a houseboat until a large boat goes by (which is very infrequent) and gently wakes the boat back and forth. There is no other way for me to ever stay in Amsterdam again: a hotel room will just not give the same experience of "living" in the city.
I hope to visit again soon!
Muito Obrigado por todo!

A nice and comfortable boat in beautiful surroundings. The area is not touristic, nice shops and supermarkets. Plenty of restaurants and bars. Very nice and helpful owners. Not far from the citycenter, you can easily walk. The whole family enjoyed the experience of staying in a boat in the middle of a big city.

My husband and I stayed on this lovely boat for 4 nights from 28th July. We loved it! It had everything we needed for self-catering. It is in a lovely spot on the Amstel Canal, where you can sit up on deck and watch the boats go by - very relaxing. The boat is easy to get to, about 15-20 minutes by tram from Centraal station, then a 10 mins walk from there. There is a Albert Hein supermarket close-by so that you can stock up on everything you need. The houseboat itself has a modern kitchen, bathroom / shower room, and 2 bedrooms - a master one with a double bed (extremely comfortable) and a smaller bedroom with 2 single beds. The living room has a comfortable sofa, a chair, table and chairs and tv with DVD player. All in all everything you need for a great time in Amsterdam. We enjoyed our time on the boat as much as going out and about in Amsterdam.

We rent this lovely houseboat in the middle of Juli for four days and - although the weather was very wet - it was wonderful! The owner were on holidays and therefore their parents looked after us - very nice people! The boat was really bigger than on the photos, everything was very clean and tidy, the bathroom was almost luxury, we don´t use the kitchen, except for breakfast, and the washing machine, but both were very modern and more than sufficient. Our 5 year old daughter loved the boat, althoug we almost can´t use the outside area for it was rainy and too cold to sit outside in the evening. We all slept very well and we can recommend this boat without any reservation!! The area ist quit convenient to the tram, to some restaurants, the supermarket and some bakerys - we don´t miss the city, it´s near enough to reach! If it is possible we will come back sometime!

We picked this boat because of all the great reviews from other people and it met our expectations completely. If you want to stay somewhere that doesn't feel like a tourist trap but is still very convenient to get to the main tourist attractions then this boat is perfect. Lovely and quiet, very comfortable and homely. I've been to Amsterdam several times but this is the best place I've stayed and I would whole heartedly recommend it to anyone who likes doing their own thing or wants something different from the usual b&b/hotel experience.

The stay on the houseboat was great - a far better way to discover Amsterdam than staying at a hotel. The houseboat itself was cosy and beautifully furnished, the place on deck to sit and watch the passing boats was very enjoyable. I can only recommend this boat!

This is a great houseboat, very warm and cozy, comfortable beds, great shower and bath. We found access to be very safe even with children, even though you have to cross another boat. Location is great, we really enjoyed renting bikes and cycling round the neighbourhood. Recommend this houseboat wholeheartedly.

We all loved the houseboat. It was stylish and had everything we needed. We were expecting to have to rough it a bit but not at all. It gave us extra space that we would not have got in a hotel room . The children ( aged 8 and 11 ) really enjoyed it . It was central enough to walk to places if we wanted to (but we also got used to taking trams which was also a new experience for our children) but sufficiently out of the centre to feel that you got a glimpse of life outside the very centre /usual tourist route in Amsterdam. If we go back to Amsterdam we would not hesitate to stay there again.

We stayed for a few nights over the easter hols and had a wonderful time. the boat was lovely and spacious. even though it snowed and rained the whole time we were there the boat was alsway s cosy and warm. we can imagine in the summer it waould be fantastic to sit out on the deck! the location is also fantastic. it is a few mintues walk from both trams and the local supermarket, but we walk most places anyway as the sights are wonderful. our hosts couldn't of been nicer and i would definately stay here agin as i plan to visit Amsterdam in the near future. i hope!

This is my first time to live in a boathouse,
That's really cozy and warm, believe me, the "real" house better than the photo present on the website.

I stay there in winter. I think that's much better in summer, as you can stay longer time on the open area on the boat, drink a cup of coffee or wine.....

I also love the view of the bridge nearby. Hope you also enjoy your boat house trip.

My wife and I plus two friends enjoyed a wonderful trip to Amsterdam in Feb 2008. The stay was made by the tranquility and accesabilty of BO24, our little haven for the trip.
Our hosts were genial, always ready to offer assistance and even left a bottle of wine as a greeting present.
The boat is warm, homely, spacious and beatuifully fitted throughout and I would reccomend a sta there to any one considering a trip to Amsterdam.

We had a splendid stay in Amsterdam in a stylish, warm and comfortable Dutch barge which accommodation we recommend highly. Our hosts were very thoughtful and helpful and everything we could have wanted was supplied apart from a chopping board. However, it wasn't the highest of our priorities as eating out in the area as well as in Central Amsterdam was one of the main activities during our stay. The boat is very convenient for lots of sightseeing venues, we walked or took a tram. The highlight, however, was a guided cycle tour around the city provided by Orange Bike Tours. This gave us confidence to cycle in Amsterdam traffic as well as pointing us to places we would not otherwise have found. And as for the fireworks...!!!

Thank you Suzanne, Louk and www. houseboathotel.nl

Houseboat B024 | 1 December 2007

The houseboat is bigger than it seems in the pictures. Very easy to find if you arrive by car, you can also park your car directly beside the houseboat for 18 euros for 24hrs (apparently it's cheaper if you park a short walk away, but still much cheaper than London). Good location on the edge of the city center, easy to walk into Centrum Amsterdam or short journey by tram. The houseboat has a well equipped kitchen with microwave and coffee machine and also has T.V & DVD player but has no wireless internet connection. The master bedroom is large and has a big comfortable bed.
Seating area at the front of the top deck is fenced off from the road and is lit at night but not recommended for small children as it's very easy to go overboard if you aren't careful. Good central heating, very clean, spacious and has a nicely done Bathroom with a good shower. Highly recommended, would definately stay there again.

This was our first time in Amsterdam, It was really great the time we spent here and life in this boat was amazing. This boat is comfortable, clean, nice and quite. Owners are kind and friendly. We always listened Radio City FM at 98 Mhz and we enjoyed reading everyone else's comments in your guest book!
Our expectations were exceeded and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Lijntje Neeltje for a very unique accommodation in Amsterdam.

The houseboat was lovely. Just right for two couples. It was really cosy and warm and made a nice change from a hotel - like being in the real Amsterdam! It was about a 15 minute cycle ride into the centre of town, which was perfect for us. I would definitely recommend staying here.
Only thing I would suggest is that it needs an electric kettle!

This was the second houseboat I've tried and it was great. Truth be told, Amsterdam is a simply fantastic city and staying on Suzanne's boat only amplified all that is great about the city. Bed was comfy and the icebox nice and chilled for libations. I usually always listen to music when on deck but found it was much more soothing to watch the rowers from the rowing club across the river and general canal/river traffic. I am pretty picky about Greek food and the restaurant across the river did a great job and was not too pricey. Trams are a breeze; just take the number 4 to the Dam and back. All in all, a great stay. Next stay, I am bringing along the Mrs. and kids...

Many thanks to Louk and Suzanne for their warm hospitality. Their beautiful boat was warm and cozy for my first trip to Amsterdam, in the heart of winter. You could not ask for more in bed, bath and kitchen. The trams, just minutes away, took us everywhere we wanted to go--the two cabs we needed found our location with ease--even through the snow and rain. With many varieties of shops and restaurants, all walking distance, it was all very convenient. While the weather did not permit a glass of wine on the deck, Amsterdam was breathtaking with a fresh blanket of snow.
I would highly recommend the restaurant across the street, The Split, the food was fabulous, the owners charming. The only thing I would advise: Watch your step! And,
there are many!! Thanks, again, for a lifetime of wonderful memories! Barb

This was the place I could have picked to stay in. The view was gorgeous in the morning with the sun coming out. It was a cozy house boat, but looked bigger on the inside than the outside. My friends and I had a great time staying there, and would recommend everyone to stay there while they're in Amsterdam. Plus the resturaunt across the street, a little Croatian place had the best food I've had in a long time. The pancake for dessert is a must.

A warm welcome from the houseboat owner, a very clean place, nicely decorated and not very far from the citycenter. We have spent there 4 nights with our 2 kids (11 and 7) and had more fun than in a regular hotel room. A nice way to stay differently in Amsterdam !

We found our stay on the boat to be most delightful and scenic. We were away from the real hustle and bustle but still able to walk about 10 minutes and make it to all the happening places. We were greeted pleasently with a bottle of wine.....and that was put to good use. Our bed was comfortable, the shower was great, and we can't wait to come visit again....hope yall have room for us on our next adventure!
See you soon!

we love Amsterdam! | 30 September 2006
Jennifer, Vicki, Gene, and Matt

B024 is a good size for 2 couples, and close to everything. We thought the Amstel might be loud and busy, but it was very quiet. The outside deck with table and chairs is peaceful day and night, we loved it. The bathroom is particularly nice, and large enough for all 4 of us to be in there getting ready at the same time. We also appreciated the washer and dryer. The trams are close and very useful. We rented bikes, also, and it was easy to get around. There's a good sized grocery store just a few blocks away.

We loved staying on the houseboat, very spacious and the beds were really comfortable. Recommend hiring bikes, best way to get around and can be safely locked up on the bridge. Good to explore, but just as good was sitting on the deck watching the world go by on the river.Suzanne and Louk were great hosts.
Only suggestions we would make is to please fix the CD player, get some new mugs and an oven would make the kitchen perfect!
Euan (17) wanted to move in permanently - I'm not sure about recommending the boat so highly because we want to be able to make a booking again in future!

Thanks for your kind review. Unfortunately there is no space for deckchairs on the deck, we made a conscious choice to provide enough seating place for four persons and that does not leave enough space for the deckchairs. There are pillows available though to make the bench and chairs more comfortable. As far as the bed is concerned, this is the first time we receive such a review. We are sorry that you did not mention it during your stay, we might have been able to change the matras. We will certainly consider all your recommendations and for sure change the matras.

We stayed on this houseboat from Aug. 15-24. The houseboat itself is absolutely beautiful and the deck is wonderful to sit out and watch the sights on the canal, especially at night. It was a little difficult getting on and off the boat and as well the stairs going down inside the boat were quite steep, so you always had to be very careful. The inside of the houseboat was very bright, very clean and having the washing machine and dryer was a bonus. I think a few little things could be added to this houseboat and it would be almost perfect, ie. a light for outside on the deck at night so you can see where you are walking, ice cube trays, some comfy deck chairs, but most of all the best addition to this houseboat would be a more comfortable bed. We found the bed to be really hard and uncomfortable. The location was perfect, close enough to town yet in a quiet neighborhood. Very easy to get around everywhere from this location. We loved our trip to Amsterdam and thought this houseboat was wonderful and would recommend it to anyone. Thanks again for the hospitality. We will be back!! Jackie Clark and Gary O'Grady

Review | 19 July 2006

email: lana (dot) andy (at) verizon (dot) net

We stayed at the houseboat the second week of July. The boat was very nice. Without repeating everyone else's reviews I would add: July is apparently spider season. While they were not inside they were definitely around on the outside by the door and gate. Not a big deal but it would have been nice to have the bigger webs removed daily. Also the bathroom which is very nice and big needs another bath rug as the metal anti-skid floor is very uncomfortable on bare feet. Lastly, the boat got kind of hot sometimes and another shade on the master skylight would have been good to keep the sun out during the day. Night was fine. . We didn't even notice the one shade until the last day so it would be good for the owners to point out the shades for people staying in the summer.
I would definitely recommend the boat overall. Lots of space by European standards and much better than dealing with climbing up to an Amsterdam apt at the end of a long day of sightseeing. Clean and quiet.

It was really great the time we expendt in Amsterdam, and the experience lived in the boat was amazing. Is confortable, clean, nice and quite. The owner, Suzanne, is a very kind person, how cares that your stay be completly satisfactory. We had very good memories and the boat is absolutly recomended. You will enjoy your stay in the canals of Amsterdam.

This was, simply put, a fabulous way to be in Amsterdam!! We absolutely loved staying in the houseboat and the deck was particularly wonderful. Great for enjoying wine, breakfast, dinner and observing life on the Amstel.

The neighorhood feel of the area was a nice respite from the insanity in the city center. After a day of roaming around the city streets, it was nice to come back to the houseboat and relax while watching the boats motor down the river.

We loved the park just a few streets away and the surrounding area. Great restaurants and a lively nightlife. And the nearby tram stop made it quite easy to get into the city center.

We definitely recommend staying here while you are in Amsterdam. It's a unique experience that truly is unrivalled.

A dream come true! | 3 June 2006
Rachel Martin and Natasha Martin-Hinshaw
email: diebuechse (at) yahoo (dot) com

Staying on the houseboat moored in the Amstel was a dream come true for us. The boat was exactly as pictured and described on the web site, but the photographs didn't do it justice. It was even better than the pictures! Fresh flowers, fantastic layout, plenty of space, wonderful interior decorating, clean and bright! The sky-blue bathroom, with skylight window over the tub, is the nicest bathroom I've ever been in in my entire life! Having a washer and dryer at our disposal after ten days in Paris was a blessing. May '06 was supposedly the coldest May ever historically in Amsterdam, but the houseboat stayed snug and cosy throughout the wind and rain. We only wish the weather had been a little sunnier so we could have spent more time on top enjoying the boats passing by and the ducks.

The boat is very conveniently located to catching Tram 3 and 4, yet far enough away from City Centre that it provides a haven of peace after a long day of sight-seeing. You really feel like you live in Amsterdam when you stay here. Albert Cuypmarket is just a couple of blocks away if you prefer to shop in a street market rather than a grocery store -- of which there are two nearby. Also, fun cafes in the neighborhood -- particulary Bloehmers (sp?). Louk and Suzanne provide a small library of books and info on Amsterdam, so you can plan the next day's activities easily each night. There are ATMs nearby.

I give this boat the highest possible rating. Staying there far exceeded my expectations, and I would recommend it to others with no reservations whatsoever. It's perfect, and the hosts are friendly and charming. I felt absolutely no anxiety about my personal safety in this neighborhood, or about my belongings when we left the boat.

A friendly suggestion for visitors: bring socks or slippers if you stay in winter; the wood floors are beautiful, but a little cold to walk on at night. You'd need to be physically mobile and agile enough to get down the narrow staircase at the boat's entrance -- but no problem for middle-aged me. Louk and Suzanne -- the only suggestion I have is that the locks on the boat and gate need a little lubricant -- they're a little cranky. :) I enjoyed reading everyone else's comments in your guestbook!

I will definitely return again someday, and recommend the boat to my friends here in Austin, Texas, U.S.A. I am happy to e-mail with anyone who's considering renting it.

Lijntje Neeltje - A Superb Stay | 13 May 2006
Dave Stahl
email: dtstahl (at) yahoo (dot) com

Our family of 4 greatly enjoyed our May visit. Staying on a CanalBoat is about as cool as it gets, just ask our kids (9 & 13). The neighborhood and river setting were great.

The boat offers very ample room, a more than servicable kitchen and an outstanding bathroom (seperate tub and shower). The washer & dryer came in quite handy. The bedrooms were nicely sized and the beds comfortable.

Getting around the city from here was a breeze. There are very good local restaurants, cafes and grocery stores.

All in all, our expectations were exceeded and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Lijntje Neeltje for a very unique accommodation in Amsterdam.

My wife and I had a pleasant stay on this house boat. It was nice to be just outside the city center. The canal not as active with all the canal tour boats and found it blissfully quiet at night. We were a short walk to the tram and into the city center in 10 minutes. It boat was clean and very cozy. We ate at some of the neighboring restaurants and those were quite good. The owners left fresh flowers and a nice bottle of wine we had our last night there. Highly recommended!

It was all welcoming, comfy, warm, clean and bright. Great location, easy access to the City and lots nearby to make the short walk to the tram entertaining. The Rowing Club on the other bank provided entertainment as we watched the weekend regattas from our deck. Their guest book comments say it all - every one is complimentary. Highly recommended.

Hi! We are spending 9 days in Amsterdam from Aug. 15-24 on this houseboat. My only wish is that since you so graciously have a hairdryer for us women/men, is it possible to obtain a curling iron as well for the houseboat? this would be great since i was there last september and my hair was a disaster!! This is only a request and if not possible, maybe you could advise how much a curling iron in Amsterdam is to purchase while i am there. thanks so much. We are eagerly awaiting our trip to amsterdam and this houseboat especially. the reviews sound wonderful. bye for now, sincerely, jackie clark and gary o'grady

We arrived in Amsterdam on a cold Wednesday afternoon in March to be met by Luc at our boat. His warm welcome was almost outdone by the pure cosiness of his house boat. Every room was spacious and beautifully decorated. It was hard actually to go back into the cold once we had got stuck into the complimentary bottle of wine that was there for us. It has everything, down to scented candles, stereo, t.v., towels and even a hairdryer which was God sent as I forgot mine! An experience not to be missed and the locality of the house boat is perfect! Book it you won't regret it! Joanie & Damien Ireland. x p.s. pick up a map when you arrive at the airport it's really handy to have.

A clean, bright, spacious and well thought out boat in an ideal location. Our hosts were welcoming and helpful, encouraging us to make ourselves "at home" afloat. Staying on a dutch barge is the perfect enhancement to a visit to the beautiful city of Amsterdam. I have recommended the experience to all of my family and friends and would not hesitate to endorse the service provided. Thank you again Louk and Suz!

Excellent Houseboat | 13 March 2006

I found for starters the help and support from the owners to be great. We were met promptly at 3 and after a brief tour given full freedom of the houseboat.

We found it clean and presentable and wanted for nothing.
The location is prime close but not too close to the centre and close to public transport. The views were great and the local birds flock to meet you if you come with bread in hand. I would reccomend this house boat to anyone wishing to hire one.

This is a wonderful houseboat! It was the perfect size for the three of us (one couple and a friend). A lovely living area and kitchenn, as well as a gorgeous master bedroom and bathroom. Very handy to have a washer and dryer, as well as a fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and toaster. The deck was the perfect place from which to watch the New Year's fireworks. the stairs to oget below deck are very steep - so mobility/agility are required.

Our hosts were so gracious - a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived, maps and sightseeing guides, tulips in the vases, and a special New Year's treat as well (oilebals? yum!) Suz and Luk were available if needed, but gave us all the privacy we desired - the perfect hosts!

The pijp neighborhood is great - very multicultural (as was the whole city), many brown cafes and coffee shops within 5-10 minutes walk (our favorite amsterdam venues!) as well as a terriffic grocery store and some yummy eateries. Very centrally located to many sights and neighborhoods. It was a rather long walk to central amsterdam (20-30 minutes), but a close walk to trams and the Albert Cuypert (sp?) market. the houseboat was always warm and cozy - even though it was cold and snowy outside. a perfect denn to return to after a long day of walking and sightseeing.

I cannot imagine staying anywhere else in Amsterdam but on a houseboat - and this one is fantastic. we can't wait to return (but next time we'll come in the spring or fall - it was so cold!!!) Many many thanks to Suz annd luk - and happy new year!

Highly recommended | 15 December 2005

Before we review Houseboat B024, we want to comment about our experience booking through Houseboat + Apartment Hotel Amsterdam. We found their Web site to be attractive, clear, well-organized, and easy to navigate. We received prompt replies to our inquiries and precise instructions. There was one hitch making a bank transfer, but the problem was resolved quickly. We do wish we could have used a credit card to pay the balance when we arrived.
Now the review: We stayed in Houseboat B024 November 22-28, 2005 and were quite pleased. For about the cost of a room in a good hotel, we got a three-room flat plus many extras, including a fridge, coffeemaker, microwave, washer & dryer. Houseboat B024 was clean, bright, and modern – just like the photos on the Web site – and everything worked perfectly.
We would have liked a toaster or toaster oven, especially since there was no oven, just a countertop gas stove. We did not miss a phone because we had our mobile. We did miss a place to hang our clothes in the bedroom. There was no closet, just one double hook on the wall. So we laid out our clothes on a large odd breakfront in the bedroom.
We also had to get used to ducking low when we got in and out of bed because it was tucked under a section of low ceiling. You can see what we mean in the photo of the bedroom on the Web site. However, John (at almost 6-foot tall) was able to walk fully erect everywhere else without bumping into cross beams.
As we expected, the late November weather was cold. It also rained heavily at times. We always were warm and dry in houseboat B024. We remembered we were floating only a few times when large passing boats made wakes. The slight rocking of the houseboat was almost imperceptible. A few times laying in bed we could hear water gently lapping around us. We slept peacefully.
There was an advantage and a disadvantage to this “double-parked” houseboat. The advantage was the quietness being away from the street. The disadvantage was that we had to walk across a short gangplank then a rubber runner stretched over the hosts’ houseboat and finally down a few steps to our door. One cold morning the gangplank was a little slippery. But this route proved no problem for us spry 60-year-old adventurers.
The location of Houseboat B024 was convenient – five minute walks to tram #3 to the museums or tram #4 to the centre. Also within short walks were many restaurants and a supermarket. Our friendly hosts – Suzanne & Louk – provided maps and directions. They also accommodated us by letting us drop off our luggage early and calling for a taxi the day we left. They even treated us with fresh flowers and a bottle of wine when we arrived, for which we were exceedingly grateful.
We highly recommend Suzanne and Louk to you. When you stay at Houseboat B024, you will be pleased.

This was our 1st trip to Amsterdam and the houseboat really made it. Great place to stay with everything you need - just wish we'd had longer! Plenty of space for the 4 of us and really well designed. Brilliant location, with everywhere in easy reach but quiet enough too. Comfy beds, great outdoor space and friendly unintrusive hosts. We shall be back!

Our stay on this houseboat has made our trip to this wonderful city unforgettable.
The amenities are great, access to the tram is a 5 minute walk. The neighborhood is quiet, and the guest are wonderful, helpful, and none intrusive. A toaster oven on the boat would be nice. I would advice anyone to rent this houseboat, we had a great time. Hopefully we will get back to this amazing city!

Our Stay on Housebout B024 | 6 September 2005

My partner and I and our two young children (5 and 2) have just returned from four days staying on this lovely houseboat.

Our hosts (who live in the boat mored alongside) were very welcoming and helpful when we first arrived. The boat is ideal for a family of four, with two good size bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and seperate bath, and a large seating area with TV and a CD player. Don't bother to buy any guide books before your visit, since there are plenty of these (and maps) provided on the boat.

The boat itself is very near to trams that will take you to the central area (4) or the museum area (3). There are also a number of good restaurants nearby (directions are provided on the boat). Our visit obviously centered around the children, and for them I would recommend a trip to the zoo, via the Artis express canal boat (combined canal cruise and zoo entrance tickets from the kiosk outside Central Station). We also spent a day in Vondel Park which the children loved.

Although the boat is OK for young children (we brought lifejackets for them both), I would recommend they are supervised at all times whilst on deck. Also, the boat is not really suitable for self-catering since there is no conventional oven in the kitchen area (although there is a gas hob, microwave oven and fridge).

Altogether, a lovely holiday and a great alternative to hotel rooms.

We loved the boat and the location was perfect for traveling into the center or wandering the local neighborhoods. The boat was excellent with the cooking facilities and the washer & dryer came in handy as we were there for two weeks. The hostess, Suzzanne, was a big help with providing information for directions to trams & local restuarants and shopping areas. We would recommend to anyone going to Amsterdam to have the experience of staying on a houseboat.

We visited this lovely boat with 3 amigos from Finland in early June, its great, "real" boat stylish houseboat located just 15min walk from downtown. Nice quiet place to chill out.
There are actually 3 rooms, 2 bedrooms and in middle of the boat kitchen/livingroom and lets not forgot the superb bathroom with great bathtub and roofwindows =).

Great view to Amstel, restaurants and snackbars other side of the road, to og greenhouse is 3min walk.

Highly recommended.

Greetings from Finland to lovely Amsterdam.

A great place to stay in Amsterdam | 13 June 2005
Suzanne Baker, Virginia, US

My friends and I had a terrific time staying on this lovely, clean, bright, and comfortable houseboat. Our first trip to Amsterdam was made all the more special by staying on the boat. The kitchen has everything you need; the living area is large enough for 4 adults to relax and talk; and the bathroom is beautiful. We enjoyed relaxing on the deck with morning coffee or an evening glass of wine, watching the other boats travel up and down the river. As other reviewers have noted, the location is great - within walking distance or easy public transportation of everything. Our hosts were wonderful and made sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this as a terrific place to stay.

The boat was fantastic, very well designed and decorated and perfect for a stay in Amsterdam. The hosts who live next to the boat on one of their own were incredibly welcoming and helpful but not at all intrusive and we did not actually see them whilst we were there unless we went looking for them.
The only thing we noticed was that there was no clothing storage in the bedroom. All this meant ws we laid out all of our clothes on the sideboard which was fine for three days. I am not sure that would have worked for a whole week.
All in all the stay was made so much more enoyable because of the high standard of the boat. Thank you.

We had a wonderful time on the Houseboat! The location was pretty good. The house was clean and pleasant. We would only change two things:
1. being able to use a credit card to pay the balance due upon arrival or have another type of arrangement
2. having a telephone on board
New York, USA

Note from Ilonk (Houseboat Hotel): we are making it possible to pay the balance by credit card this year. Phone lines are not possible on the accommodations sinds the phone compagnies work with digital systems. The counters doesn't work anymore. But most of the guests have mobile phones, which they make suitable for foreing countries. And on this boat you have a free internet connection if you bring your notebook.

Just returned from our 4 day trip to Amsterdam. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed our experience staying on a houseboat on the Amstel River. It was extremely clean and comfortable and our hosts were very accomodating. Staying on a houseboat made us feel more like locals than vacationing tourists. It was extremely quiet, yet very close to all the excitement of Amsterdam. We wish it had been a bit warmer so that we could have relaxed more on the deck!

I have already recommended your company and this houseboat to friends. Thanks for making our vacation to Amsterdam one that we will never forget!

Thank you for making this a very nice stay. We enjoyed our stay, it was great being in Amsterdam with a private place to stay. Everything was near enough to be reached on foot or by tram, good shopping around and countless places to eat (although we did use the kitchen too). Our kids loved living on a boat! Watchíng the rowing regatta on Sundays was an added bonus.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Amsterdam. The accomodation, from our point of view, was ideally located to permit us to walk to all the major attractions and to the shops/markets for provisioning the boat.

Our hosts were most helpful and the bottle of wine, upon arrival greatly appreciated.

I have no hesitation in recommending this form of alternative accomodation. It's a great experience.

We stayed on the boat on February 05 (A couple and 2 teenagers).
It was certainly a unique way to experience Amsterdam.
The boat is nice designed to the little details and had everything we needed.
It is located in a short distance from the market and the grocery stores, so we could cook our meals using the equipped kitchen.
The owners were very helpful and gave us all the information we need.
We hope to come back in our next visit to Amsterdam…

Great boat! | 4 February 2005
Eric Yeater

My friends and I just returned from our trip to Amsterdam, and I wanted to say that this boat was a great place to stay. Away from the crowds, but still very close to public transit (metro and trams). We were there at the end of January, 2005, and the weather was pretty cold, but the boat was nice and warm. We needed a place for three guys to stay, and this place has three beds (two single and one double) so it was perfect. Very comfortable and cozy. Nice kitchen, GREAT bathroom - really a nice little boat. The little smoking deck at the bow was a great place to hang out, despite the chilly weather.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

We had a lovely time in this houseboat. This is our second time visiting Amsterdam, and we found the location of the boat perfect. There is a tram stop just up the road, a supermarket within easy walking distance and several very nice and affordable restaurants in the local area. A 25 minute walk would take you into the main shopping/restaurant area.

The houseboat itself is decorated in a modern style, with a large kingsize bed in the main bedroom and two single beds in the second bedroom. The bathroom was gorgeous. The living area was especially comfortable with a three seater sofa, armchair and soft upholstered footstool. With the seating at the table, we comfortably sat 5 adults in the evening time. Access to the boat is not suitable for anyone who would have difficulty negotiating steep stairs, however this did not detract from the beauty of the boat and its tasteful interior.

Thank you, and we would not hesitate to recommend your company, and in particular this houseboat to our friends.

There is very little to say except the houseboat was excellent in everyway. We would choose to stay there again anytime we're in Amsterdam. It was magnificent sitting on the deck and watching the water traffic go by, and the bridges opening up for the larger boats. Our host and hostess were most helpful and solicitous in every way. But then without bias considering my ancestry the people of Holland are wonderful in the rain or sunshine. We had sunshine the whole time. And two wonderful friends of ours from Holland also added to our pleasure by showing us about. We also saw that magnificent painting of the many Vermeers the Girl with the Turban also called the Girl with the Pearl Earring. A houseboat in Amsterdam on the Amstel what a magnificent opportunity. Also, the large flea market was truly something special. Imagine from magnificent Vermeers to a great flea market or sitting in many cafes along the various canals or taking a ride through the many canals. I've been to Amsterdam many times: Love at first and last sight. Amsterdam and Venice my two favorite cities in the world with Vancouver and San Francisco drawing a close second. I've been in many countries. I should add that the thousands of bicycles was wonderful. I know the people with cars don't quite agree, but the the people with bicycles often don't like the cars, and the pedestrians have to keep a sharp lookout for both and the motorcycles. That's okay, that's Amsterdam. For me the more bicycles the better. Why get fat? I love the 2,500 houseboats on the canals and we only wish we could live on one for a couple of months.

A great place to stay, and a great place to see another side of Amsterdam.

I've been to Amsterdam many times, and have stayed in lots of different places, but this is the only place that was so special that I'd make an effort to stay there again.

The boat is fitted out really nicely. The location is great (quiet, and in an area that we hadn't really been to before, but with plenty of decent local bars, restaurants, shops, etc), and it's an easy and pleasant walk to most places you're likely to want to go.

To start a day with breakfast sitting out on the deck, then off to see some sights, then a night on the town, and back home to the calm and quiet of your own boat. You've got to try it. It's fantastic.

We had a great time staying at the house boat. The owners were very friendly and helpful, it's in a good location - close to tram, walking distance to town if necessary, easy to get to the free way. Pretty quiet, big, clean. Overall a good experience. Would stay again.

Our stay in Amsterdam was very confortable. The houseboat was warm, cosy and welcoming. Suzanne and Louk were both very friendly and helpful when required but never intrusive.
We were met timeously as arranged and were shown around by Suzanne who had provided a bottle of wine, tea, coffee and some little Easter eggs.
We found an Albert Heijn supermarket close by where everything was available.
The area seemed quiet and the number 4 tram took only a few minutes to reach the centre of the city.Try to find time to visit the Albert Cuypstraat Market and the TheaterTuschinski (cinema), both well worth a visit as well as the better known galleries etc.
The houseboat would be especially good holiday accomodation during the summer months, as it's possible to enjoy the sun on deck in a safe little garden area.

Stay on the Boat | 2 April 2004

My wife, a friend and I stayed on this charming boat for 5 days. As this being my 4th trip to Amsterdam, I was eager to try something besides hotels or apartments; for that canal living experience.

The owners were very pleasant and stayed out of sight the entire time. We felt both private and secure, with their boat between ours and the bank.

Even during wet weather, the footing was excellent, although narrow at places. My wife, with an arthritic ankle, still managed to avoid any problems. Folks with canes or walkers best stay in Miami, as Amsterdam is a walking city!

The interior is modern, clean and had most amenitiies mentioned. The washer and dryer was not ready for use, but the owner offered alternative services to our satisfaction.

The beams running across the "ceiling" (sorry, not very nautical) were menacingly low for someone of my height (6-8), but I avoided smacking them.

A very pleasant non smoking enviroment, with a private area on the bow for discreet smoking and duck feeding. Above average media (TV and stereo)

There was no rocking, or unplesant boat movement, merely a whisper of a cradles gentle wave. We had no trouble sleeping, although our roomate had to put both twins together to keep from rolling off, and this rooms close position to the galley makes for a rude awakening if someone runs water in the sink.

Heat and windows worked perfectly. Bathroom was better than most 4 star hotels.

The location was a refresher from the Centrum area. It is a short walk to the Tram 3, or Tram 4 lines. The metro is a short 10 minute walk. Don't take the Metro Amstel station, like your confirming email suggests. Take the Wilburstraat Metro stop (before Amstel Station), cross the bridge and walk three blocks south on the street paralleling the riverbank. The boat is on the left (of course), 2 blocks down near a red round billboard post.

For those seeking the coffee shop experience, the origonal Greenhouse is two blocks away. there are about 4 more shops within walking distance.

The area the boat is in is known as De Pijp. Very safe.

4 out of 5 stars, only because of the late check in hassles. But the owners have a right to work!
