This boat is in a great location and the hoast is a great help. The accomodation is warm and functional, it would be made a bit more cosy with perhaps a small sofa and chair over the furnishings provided as it is impossible to sit for any length of time on the boat, a bit of a shame as it is such a great boat.

The internet was also not working as I was on a business trip this was a problem.

Overall for what I paid it was a nice stay it is just a shame it was not better furnished as this would make a big difference and in such a great location, I would pay more if it was better furnished and comfortable.

Review of HouseBoat BK52 | 19 October 2011
Tim McNiff

My wife and I staed there from 10-4-11 to 10-9-11. We found this accommodation to meet all our needs. It was close to the Tram/Bus station to allow us to visit all of Amsterdam's attractions. I would recommend a houseboat experience over a hotel while visting Amsterdam. This is the city of canals after all.

If you would like to have a DIFFERENT adventure------ | 3 October 2011
Mary-Toronto, Canada

inj a foreign land then THIS is it!

It might not be as comfortable as a Holiday Inn but it's a heck of a lot more interesting
(and actually the bed is probably cosier!).

It was such fun sitting on the deck (orthewheel-house ) with a glass of vino watching the wide variety of floating objects go by ( including a picnic table on two pontoons with bicycles strapped to the side!). When everything was lit up at night, the boats, the bridges, it was quite beautiful--I could lie on my bed and see it all through my porthole.

Practically---Hans is very helpful, everything you need is there (though I was so pleased to have Brit. T.V. and would have appreciated a more comfy chair to watch it, so I just moved one of the deck chairs down).

There are plenty of great places to eat nearby, including a croissanterie for a delicious take-out breakfast..As for some culture, you could practically swim across from the Hermitage, and there was plenty more.

The general info. tells you that the boats are not suitable for babies or the elderly---ignore this --- I'm an arthritic 75yr.old, who occupied the prow and was accompanied by my daughter, her husband and 2yr. old baby, who occupied the wheel-house section. This gave us both privacy and easy conviviality We had no trouble at all and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Armelle Doré

Hello,

We appreciate our stay in Amsterdam @ the bouse-boat BK52. It was near from the center (15 mn by walk via RembrantPlein & the Market Flower) & from the Hortus Botanicus. The area is very quiet too. The house-boat is comfortable, clear & well equiped for 2 people.
Thanks & we will see you soon.

A recommander vivement!

The boat is at one of the definitely nicest places in Amsterdam-directly on Amstel river between Keizers- and Prinzengracht. The host Hans is an extremely friendly man and whatever you need (early morning taxi, any recommendations..) he is there for you. The boat is small but for two persons perfectly fine and cosy. The interior is colourful, you basically have everything u need, very practical like on a real sailing boat - you have a small fridge, waterboiler, coffee machine. The view is amazing-looking at tiny bridge and "Carré" theater from the small roof top terasse.
It´s a safe and wealthy area and you are close to Museum´s Quarter, Jordaan, Rembrandtsplein, Leinseplein...
we indeed loved it and it was an extremely comfortable stay.

We stayed here for a short break, it was perfect for us, we loved sitting on the deck watching the river traffic. The barge was well equiped with everything you could need to make a meal we saved load of cash self catering. We could park our motorcycle very near for free - a great bonus.
The bed was very comfortable and spacious, with lovely view through the porthole to the `Skinny Bridge` great for being lazy
Hans was away for our trip but Neils was exeptionally helpful.

Cannot fault this for a trip to Amsterdam, we will definitely return soon

Retour sur l'hébergement so romantic du houseboat | 23 May 2011
GORRY

Bref, adorable et très bien placé (calme, proche centre-ville, canal...) ;

Nous, on est ravi ... ;-))

Honest review of house boat BK52 | 9 May 2011
Anthony

The space was much smaller than I had expected. Aside from the sleeping area there was a kitchen and a small bathroom with no sink, so we had to brush our teeth in the kitchen sink. There was no air conditioning when it got hot and no screens on the windows to keep mosquitoes out, so we got bitten up.
The best thing about the house boat was it's location. Right on the Amstel near the skinny bridge. In one of the richiest neighborhood in Amsterdam. Walking distance to Albert Cuyp market, Dam and Leidsplein. This made up for a lack of amenities.
Hans the owner was a nice fellow, but we only seen him twice and he did not ask if we needed anything.

We have spent only 4 days in Amsterdam, but thanks to this kind of accomodation it's been possible to live a full dutch life. The houseboat is clean and very confortable, in a quiet district close to the center. We'd like to come back here...

Trés sympathique location | 16 November 2010
Richard

Bonjour

Just stayed on this boat and it is exactly what you need for a short stay in Amsterdam. Great location with some lovely cafes, bars and shops very close by. Clean and comfortable accomodation and really friendly guy who owns it. I would definately recommend this boat. We're going back again in the spring!

STUDIO SUR PENICHE BK52 | 15 September 2010

Nice spot convenient to everything | 8 September 2010

We enjoyed our stay. BK52. Though small, it was fine for our needs. Enjoyed a pre-dinner drink on deck each evening watching the river traffic and slept well without the usual hotel background noises!

Wonderful boat! | 25 August 2010
Heidemarie

Excellent new experience | 9 August 2010
Carla

Not only the room/kitchen/bathroom was a very nice and cosy place to spend 4 nights but the owner, Hans, is a very worm, nice and friendly guy. The location is perfect, in the very centre, near everything and in line to see all what happens in Amstel River. I certainly will repeat for next time.

Süßes kleines Zimmerchen | 5 August 2010
Benjamin Speth

The houseboat was lovely, with a quiet location (but still close to the festivities happening in the city) and was well equipped. The owner was friendly and approachable, and was happy to answer any questions we had. Highlights of the boathouse include the cozy bed with the porthole and skylight, and the deck (where one can enjoy a few meals and watch the boats pass by.)

This place definitely added to the Amsterdam experience, and we will recommend it to anyone who is thinking about visiting the city.

Sonnige Tage in Amsterdam | 7 June 2010
Dr.Ing.Ralph Buchwald

We LOVED being on the houseboat ( a dream life) The accommodation was perfect and the position was wonderful - with the wonderous bridge on our doorstep and transport close at hand. Fabulous.

Excellent location | 5 June 2010
Henny Burnett

After our three days visiting Amsterdam, we decided that this boat on the Amstel was probably in the very best part of town for a short stay. Sitting on deck one can spend the quiet hours between excursions watching the world go by both on land and water. The accomodation is fairly basic but clean and functional. The owner is genial, easy-going and close at hand should advice be needed.

Quiet apartment in a busy environement | 25 May 2010
Guy Monnette

We enjoyed the boathouse because it is walking distance to tourist attractions, theatre, restaurants, caffes and ... grocery store. The apartmant was clean and complete with everyhting needed if we felt to cook.

But what we enjoyed the most was the quiet place the boathouse could offer even if it is located on the busiest canal of the city, expecially on the week end.

Our stay in the Houseboat | 26 April 2010
Kyle Titterington & Stephanie Mashal

We really did have a great time in Amsterdam and the houseboat made the stay so much more enjoyable, it really had everything we needed and was like nothing we had experienced before. The owner Hans is a real nice guy, he was very good to us as we had to stay longer because of flight cancellations and he had no problem with this at all on such short notice! Thanks Hans for truly giving us the perfect amsterdam experience!

A refaire.

Felt really at home on Hans' house boat and would have loved to stay longer. Even though it seems like a small space, it is actually all you need.
Would love to go there again and I'm recommending it to everybody who's looking for a place to stay in Amsterdam.

meals on deck and watching the world go by | 2 October 2009
Pat and Martin Leiper, Dundee, Scotland

We enjoyed having our meals on deck and watching the world go by on bikes and boats - you couldn't have that experience in any hotel! Accommodation comfortable, and although the boat is in a central location - opposite the Hermitage and beside the Magere Brug (theSkinny Bridge) and there's lots going on, it's quiet and felt safe too.

rewiew BK52 05.-08.Sep 2009 | 11 September 2009
Christine

We really enjoyed staying at the boat, we could not have had a better time. Is there any better place to stay in Amsterdam than a house boat?
Though BK 52 guestroom is small (of course, it is a boat and not a hotel building), we had everything we needed. The guestroom and kitchen is well equipped.
I loved sitting in the sun on deck, watching Magere Brug ("Skinny Bridge"), the Amstel, boats, cycling and walking people.
Thank you Hans for such a lovely accommodation which made our stay in Amsterdam even more beautiful.

I couldn't be more pleased with our houseboat. The place was clean and newly painted and the location was so perfect. It was truly the perfect Amsterdam experience.

A great stay | 24 August 2009
Jesse Rudy

The view was fantastic, the location was very convenient, and the room itself was so cute. The owner Hans was really a great guy who helped us a lot. The houseboat was a little more expensive than a hotel, but the money we saved by spending time on our private deck instead of a cafe more than made up the difference. I would really strongly recommend this houseboat on the Amstel to anyone. My wife and I look forward to returning in a few years.

Excellent Stay on Han's boat | 18 August 2009
Nancy Lewis

We visited Amsterdam in late July and stayed in BK52. What a wonderful choice. The cabin is very small, but just the right size for two people, and charmingly designed and crafted. The location was ideal. We were there during Amsterdam Pride, and had the best seats in the city for the parade. Hans is a very interesting guy, who has devoted much time and energy to maintaining his boat. It is obviously a labour of love. We highly recommend this accommodation and would return next year if we had the chance.

Feedback | 7 August 2009
Sarah

This houseboat was perfect. It was located in a very central spot.

For groceries find the "Spar" on the bank opposite to the houseboat. There aren't very many sit down restaurants in the area - mostly fast food (for the muchcies, I guess). The grocery store is the best bet if you want something healthy.

Parking is not recommended in the city (at 50 euros a day). The "P&R" areas (there are many) have a good deal if you park your car for 4 days or less (6 euro a day with up to 5 two-way metro / tram tickets!). The closest metro stop is "Waterlooplein" and the closest tram top is on route 4 (I believe).

The houseboat is close to the "nine streets" - where you can do shopping and visit museums easily.

The owner is very friendly and speaks English fluently. It was my first time in Amsterdam and this houseboat made it very enjoyable. I would rent this particular houseboat again!

Super houseboat: why stay anywhere else? | 28 July 2009
James & Jen

My girlfriend and I stayed on this beautifully renovated houseboat on the Amstel river, right in the centre of Amsterdam. The boat itself is fantastic and has been finished to a very high standard. The little kitchen is surprisingly well equipped. The bathroom is small but perfectly formed. The bed space is very cosy and perfectly comfortable for two. It also has a small deck, just right for a morning coffee or an evening drink. The boat's situation is a great asset; close to the central attractions but far enough away from crowds, noise or the more dubious charms of Amsterdam. The wide Amstel river gives a feeling of space, but the traditional houses along the banks give the authentic Amsterdam feel. Finally, special mention has to go to the boat's owner, Hans. He has crafted the interior of the houseboat himself and has done a wonderful job. In addition to creating this beautiful space he was also very helpful and friendly, making us feel at home straight away. So much so that hope to be back in the future. So, for all this character at such a modest price, why would you stay anywhere else?

We had six wonderful days on a romantic and really nice houseboat in Amsterdam.
It was closed to every thing you want to see,and the owner Hans was a very very nice and funny man to get to now.We can really recomend it to every one who want to

Very nice stay - absolutely recommended | 30 June 2009
Fabian and Steffi

We had the room in the nose of the boat for four days.

It was absolutely perfect for us. The boat is in the center of everything in Amsterdam, you can walk to every sightseeing location in a few minutes.

And the boat is very nice and has a big, cosy bed with a window to the water.

The owner, Hans, is a very friendly person.

We were happy there and recommend it to everyone capable climbing a ladder.

We spend five days in Amsterdam, living on this nice and cosy houseboat. Wonderful atmosphere, waking up to the light sound of soft waves, looking on the Amstel Gracht.
Very romantic for couples. Really beautiful location, everything can be reached easily within a walking distance.
Very helpful owner, we can recommend this accommodation and we would surely book it again.

Great Boat | 3 March 2009
Michael & Becky
email: mikejclark45 (at) hotmail (dot) com

We both really enjoyed staying on this houseboat. Hans the host was very welcoming and the small kitchen was more than adequate to meet our needs. We cooks all of our meals using the hob and microwave. There was also a coffee machine whcih was fantastic to wake up to in the morning.

The small apartment is one end of the canal boat with Hans the host living at the other end. in between the two was Hans's workshop so we felt private and didn't hear him working in there during our stay.

The room itself had its own entrace and a great little deck which you can sit up on. The inside of the room was newly decorated and included a table and chairs along with the bed which was in its own little booth. Very quiet at night (and during the morning too) and the central heating kept us warm.

As for location it was only a 15 minute walk from Dam square and the same down to the museums. Great location as although it is not right in the centre the walk there helps you get to know more of the city.

A warm place during a blustery cold week | 21 February 2009
Michael

What a great place to try a little boat life. The owner, Mr. van der Guten was very accommodating and justly proud of his recent remodel. All the essentials to crank out meals (kudos for coffee on board!) in the simple but functional kitchen. Try "water" sound on radio; makes it seem like the river is flowing by.
