Amsterdam by boat | 19 November 2011
Emmanuelle

Bonjour,

LOVE Boat BK09 ! | 17 November 2011

This boat is awesome.
Its a great way to spend a cosy - romantic - authentic experience in amsterdam.
Its really comfortable clean and exciting for a couple looking for something original.

Not recommended if you are taller than 6.1" (185cm), are very overweight or if you have difficulty walking down 5 steep steps.

The guy Peter that owns the boat is also really friendly, hospitable and part of teh amsterdam experience. Really nice guy, and if you tell him how nice his boat is you might be lucky and get some free beers!

Very highly recommended!

What a beautiful way to stay in Amsterdam... | 25 October 2011

We just stayed here for a weekend, but we liked it very much.

Ottimo | 16 October 2011
Claudia & Marco

Our stay aboard Tempgina | 7 October 2011
Bruce and Kerry (Newcastle Australia)

We wish to express our delight in our time spent aboard Peter's Houseboat. What a great way to enjoy such a great city.

The master's cabin was very compfortable and Peter has maintained his ship very well and it is a credit to him. The location is just great on the Amstel not far up from the Intercontinental and well within Tram and Train access, along with walking distance to Rokin for resturants etc.

If you are a keen push bike rider Amsterdam is the place for you.

We enjoyed our red wines (Australian of course) and cheese sitting in the wheel house watching the world glide by.

It was a memorable experience and would recommend a stay aboard Tempgina to anyone. Much better than a hotel room...

Thankyou Peter, we wish you well.

We had a great time in Amsterdam, the boat was great, old beautiful wood accommodation, compact & very clean. I was a little tall for it at 6 foot 1 inch 185 cm but manageable & I could stand up in the middle of the cabin & in the shower. Heating, shower, bed & outside seating all great. Peter was very welcoming. The boat is on the edge of the centre area too far to walk in but the trams & buses are so good very easy to get in. It's right next to a busy bridge which we found very interesting but not the quietest spot. The cafe almost opposite was very good for breakfast & Bloomers over the bridge serves good food at fair price. The Metro was not working from central station in Aug 2011 so it would have been better for us to have updated directions, we got a little lost on arrival. Highly Recommended!

Vielen Dank, Peter ! Und alles Gute!

We wanted to get away from the everyday life and chose to come to Amsterdam. I also wanted to choose an alternative to hotels. Peter's houseboat was the perfect choice. It is not only close to the center and a very comfortable location as it is quiet and is close to trams and the metro. It is more important that the houseboat has a fascinating atmosphere. You can really relax at Peter's boat and see the city. We have spent 5 days and we enjoyed every minute on the boat. Peter was helpful and a perfect host.

Peter's Houseboat on the Amstel | 28 May 2011
Wai

Peter's Houseboat on the Amstel was cozy and wonderful. It truly made my stay in Amsterdam serene with an extra added local spice and flavor! I cannot recommend enough. Also, it is a block from the famed Amstel Intercontinental, sharing the same waters (and views). The easy access to trams and subways also made it convenient to hop right over to all parts of the center. All in all ... I felt so fortunate to anchor here!

We had a very successful trip to amsterdam and that was due to our accomondation. Peters house boat is a perfect base to explore the city and all of its delights. The accomondation is clean comfortable and very Dutch and am sure our stay in Amsterdam would not have been so special had we not stayed there. I recommend you hire bicycles as it is so easy to explore all the city from this wonderful House Boat

Perfect spot! | 13 April 2011
Izabela&Maciek, Warsaw

We stayed on the boat "Tempgina" for 4 days, it was wonderful time. We loved the neighbourhood, "De Ysbreeker" cafe, the Hartog's bakery, beautiful houses and boats traffic on the river. Somehow we felt as locals living on the boat.
Peter, the owner of the boat, was a perfect host, really nice, very happy and hospitable, didn't let us feel that we are strangers.
We loved sitting in the steering booth, watching the city life.
Perfect place for weekend for two!

We stayed on peters houseboat in sept of 2010. It was a great little place to spend our first few days in Amsterdam. Quiet yet close to everything. We loved it. Our host was great and we really enjoyed his company as well. It was small but had everything we needed. I would recommend it to anyone . We slept great and had all the privacy we wanted. The subway was close and amsterdam is a beautiful city. thanks peter

Delightful | 16 July 2010

Lovely location and very neatly set out, though the compact apartment is not perhaps as comfortable if one is 6' plus as it is if one is petite like me! There are also no cooking facilities, though a kettle and fridge are provided and there are several nice local cafes and restaurants (we especially liked Villa Ruysch). Transport around the area is easy on foot and by tram.

Highly recommended, and Peter was a charming host.

Perfect Choice for our Honeymoon | 10 July 2010

From the moment we arrived, we knew we had made the right choice. The location is perfect, the interior of the boat is beautifully cared for and decorated, and Peter, the owner had a bottle of prosecco and two glasses waiting on our arrival.
The boat itself is one of the most beautiful in Amsterdam.
We hope to return at some point in the near future.

Previous reviews helped us to try this new experience. We were not disappointed in any way! The accommodations were 'cozy' and clean. The wheel room was a lovely place to watch the light change on the river scene and to watch the boats go by while you enjoy a glass of wine or a morning coffee. Peter was very accommodating and helpful. He showed a good balance of friendly interest in his guests and allowing them their privacy - the perfect host! The Ysbreker Restaurant across the street was an excellent place to eat and Peter provided suggestions for grocery shopping, bakery, etc. It was just a short walk to a bus stop or to the metro station which would take you anywhere you want to go. You must realize that this is not a hotel - it's a boat - and you should expect some differences. For example, the steps from the wheel room down into the cabin are somewhat like a ladder, but easy to negotiate. And the toilet facilities would not be good for very large people. After spending 6 nights on board, we would highly recommend this as a different but enjoyable experience!

A Uniquely Memorable and Authentic Amsterdam Experience | 23 May 2010
James T

My wife and I stayed aboard houseboat BK09 for four nights recently. The boat is located on the Amstel river adjacent to a lovely tree lined street. Views of Dutch architecture across the Amstel during the day and night (especially) are mesmerizing. All sorts of boats pass and its great just to it up in the 360 degree glass captain's steering room or on the deck in the fresh air as they pass by. The boat and the surrounding areas feel safe. Although close to everything, its just far enough away from direct center so that she seedy shops and hordes of frat boy tourists that crowd the area of Amsterdam directly near the central station are nowhere to be found here.

Be aware that the quarters are small and not advisable for more than two people or very tall/large people. The low ceiling, steep ladder/stairs down into the cabin, and small bathroom/shower are the limiting factors for this. However, if you are looking for a uniquely memorable and authentic Amsterdam experience and tend to think a bit adventurously, I would recommend staying here.

The owner, Peter, lives on the other half of the boat in separate quarters. He is very friendly and has a great sense of humor. We had a great time.

Great boat and charming host. This is a very comfortable houseboat in a nice central location. Close to everything and in a quiet neighborhood. Near the metro and right on a tram line. As cold as it was during our stay, the boat was warm and cozy.

Amstel-dam, very nice | 14 December 2009
Martina and Helmut

We stayed 4 days in December and we liked it a lot. It was a marvellous experience: nice, cozy and warm. The cabin smelled of wood and it was quiet, we slept very well. The interior is not cold and functional but fancy and charming. You will feel at home soon.
In the upper cabin one is allowed to smoke, you can watch the Amstel river, it’s a good place for just sitting there, thinking and relaxing. The boat is not far away from the inner city, everything is within reach and there are also some nice places and restaurants nearby.
As in Amsterdam everything seems to be easygoing - more than elsewhere - the boat is fine to participate in the spirit of the city. And of course: Peter the owner of the Tempgina is nice and helpful as well.

great place to stay while in Amsterdam | 27 June 2009
skf

I enjoyed staying on de Tempgina. It fit my needs to a T and it's right on the water! It is close to a cafe with wireless, a grocery store, trams to most attractions. (If you like to walk, it's 10 to 20 minutes to museums and other attractions in the center of town.) Peter was a great host. Dishes water heater for hot drinks, and a small fridge are available. If you want to cook or you're staying longer than a week, you may want to find a place with a kitchen.

We have stayed on Peters boat 3 times now, and always have a brilliant stay the location is excellent and Peter is a perfect host, with good advice and a relaxed manner.
There is plenty of places to stay in Amsterdam but this has to be the best if you want to soak up the atmosphere and stay somewhere a bit different.
See you next year Peter

Boat BK09 | 21 May 2009
Angela Haack

My stay on houseboat BK09 was wonderful. The boat had so much character and was very cozy and clean. There are great views from any where on the boat of the surrounding city. It is conveniently located within minutes by foot to the tram and metro, which allowed me to go anywhere in the city very easily. Peter, the owner of the boat, was very helpful if I had any questions on where the pharmacy, supermarket, pastry shop, etc. were located. I would recommend this boat to anyone who was traveling to Amsterdam and wanted to experience what it truly feels like to live on a canal. There is plenty of heat to keep you warm at night and you will sleep like a baby with the gentle movement of the boat. Be sure to rent a bike and take advantage of the best way to get around Amsterdam. I look foward to my next visit!

Hi
We will definately recommend Peters boat to all young couples!
The cabin is small, perfectly fitted for 2, and even more cosy and nice that we could have ever imagined :-)
The area around is perfect with good shopping for small meals and drinks on the deck, and we tried two of the restaurants close to the boat and can recommend them for nights where you just need good food without the hazzle it can be to go "restaurant hunting" in the city center ;-)
A special thanks to Peter for being always smiling and making us feel really welcome + a super restaurant recommendation on a night where we just needed a simple, great steak in a local environment.

Peter's boat is a fab alternative to a hotel break. Now that we have done it once we will definitely go back again at some time in the future. We got engaged over the weekend so the city and the boat will always hold special memories for us. Very cosy for two, clean, cute and about a 15-20min walk from the city centre. Dont think twice about paying a little extra for a boat - it is well worth it. We have already recommended it to friends and family.

Excellent houseboat. This is the third houseboat I have stayed on in A'dam and is nearly perfect. Nice location that is close to everything but still quiet. Great views of two canal bridges. Very comfortable and cozy wooden cabin and excellent hot water shower. Nice writing desk and facilities for making light meals aboard (tea, coffee, soup) Unfortunately, I never met Peter but his assistant, Dianna, showed me around and even gave me a complimentary "welcome" bottle of wine. You can't beat that! When I'm next in A'dam, I will certainly try to book BK09. This would be the perfect houseboat for a romantic stay in Amsterdam. Small, cozy, convenient and “old school” boat cabin charm coupled with a great location and wonderful hosts.

My boyfriend and I stayed on the housebat for a long week-end for my 30th birthday. The boat was very clean, and most importantly qute warm given the freezing conditions outside. it is also very close to two metro lines and to a large supermark and even to the centre if one wished to walk. Peter is a great host and really friendly. Would definitely recommend staying.
Only thing: when going from the airport catch the metro not the tram. The tram directions seemed wrong.

Just back from four days on Peter's boat. Had a great time. Accommodation was really cosy. Great location on the River Amstel. The boathouse is a great place to relax with a glass of wine in the evening. Shower is a very welcome surprise. Stong pressure and the best view ever. The cafe beside the boat is great for coffee and juice or a cold beer on a sunny day. If you are not sure about where to stay in Amsterdam, give bko9 a try. Much better than a small, impersonal hotel room. We will be back!

Hi Peter,
Unfortunately you were on holidays while my girlfriend and I visited, but we were in good hands with Monique - she was most helpfull.
The houseboat is beautiful and such a refreshing change from dull hotels. Although it was close to freezing outside we were nicely tucked up inside thanks to the heating system. The shower really is amazing too - perfect pressure and temp! A great start to your day. The 'pump' toilet really is interesting... an experience to behold!!
Overall this really was an experience that I will definitely recommend, and I hope to be returning soon!
Thanks for everything,
Dave & Orla.

Myself and my aunty spent a wonderful long weekend in Amsterdam and it was made all the more wonderful by Peter's beautiful and kwirky boat and his fantastic hospitality.

He greeted us on our arrival with a complimentary bottle of red wine and some yummy little chocolates.

The boat is small but pefectly formed. Perfectly spacious for a couple or two friends (willing to share a double bed), there is a lovely little cabin with table and chairs and facilities to make tea and coffee. As well as a cpboard stocked with bottle opener, cups, etc. The shower was lovely and hot. There is also an upper deck where you can smoke.

It is a few tram or metro stops to all the action if you want a good night life and there is a lovely little cafe across the road for breakfast.

All in all, great value!

A couple of weeks ago I visited Peter on the Tempgina. He is a friend from when we where young. Had not seen each other for 22 years! It must have been Sail Amsterdam 1985. He is a lovely man, constantly worrying about you feeling comfortable. I can imagine he is a brilliant host. And what an amazing place to stay for a tourist, right on the Amstel river!! I had a wonderful time and will definitely go and visit him again soon.
Thanx Peter.

The boat was perfect for 2 people. No closets, but a fun bed and nice shower and toilet. Sheets smelled so fresh - like sunshine! Location is good - not too far outside the action. There is a hairdryer on board so you don't have to worry about bringing your own or adaptors, etc. We would stay here again in a heartbeat! Very unique stay in Amsterdam.

We stayed on Peter's Houseboat for 6 nights, and we had a great time, it was our fifth time in Amsterdam and this time it was the best because of the houseboat and the fantastic river views. Peter was a wonderful host and his houseboat is a credit to him, the bed was so comfortable and the shower was amazing not to mention the wee cabin and fridge. the location was excellent and it is a pleasant walk to any of the main tourist areas, which arent as nice as so many other hidden areas in this great city. Cant wait to return, thanks Peter,

Our stay on this boat was delightful! Located just outside of the main tourist area, this accommodation allowed us to live the good life of local Amsterdam. The apartment was immaculately clean and cozy with a shower that was incredibly hot with amazing pressure! We highly recommend this spot for a relaxing vacation. Peter was incredibly helpful and kind and the cafe De Ysbreker down the street was a perfect beginning and end to a busy day of sight seeing!

We are ready to go back!

Thanks to all for doing our unforgettable holidays.

Winter break on a house boat | 19 February 2007

Myself and my hubby found the houseboat apartment a real gem. It is a proper boat and not a mobile house on the water. It is very compact with a cosy atmosphere. It has tea and coffee making facilities and a little table if you want to make your own snacks.

It is in an ideal location, away from Central station and the tacky tourist area, opposite a buzzing cafe/bar and only 10 minutes walk away from some fabulous restaurants along Utrechtsestraat.

Our host Peter was lovely and was on hand if we needed anything.

I thoroughly recommend this accommodation as it provides a novel, high quality experience.

Long weekend in January | 12 February 2007

My boyfriend and I stayed in Peter's houseboat for a long weekend in January. Despite the gale force winds, we had a fantastic time. Peter was very hospitable and welcoming, even providing a bottle of wine and some chocolates when we arrived "to help us sleep" in the weather conditions! That wasn't necessary, the boat was very comfortable and cosy and not too rocky, despite the wind. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone. It's easy to get to, beautiful and a 5 minute walk from the best bakery in Holland!

My wife and I were very happy with the rear cabin of the barge, it was much more fun than a hotel and very cosy, please note that it is a boat cabin so space is limited. The situation of the barge suited us as we were in between the RAI and the central station with the tram 7minutes walk.
Looking forward to returning next year!!

thanks again

Amazing location, believe me!!!
The place is simply fantastic:

-centre located, near the tram stops and on the Amstel river!!!
-very comfortable and clean
-the bathroom and the shower are perfect
-like an apartment!

This houseboat is very romantic for couple (the breakfast on the river is the best), and the host Peter is very nice!
Reccomended to everybody want a GREAT place to stay without spend lot of money.
The best way to visit Amsterdam is to stay in an houseboat and this one is simply perfect. No hotel could give you the same experience that this houseboat could give to your Amsterdam travel.

Thanks again to this website!
Thanks again Peter!!

email: ralph (dot) krauss (at) gmail (dot) com

...and an even more fantastic and romantic canal-boat Peter owns right on the Amstel shore. We envy him this "house" of his. Central is only one keyword; others are cosy, intimate, and downright beautyful. Watching boats passing by with a nice cup of coffe in the morning in the steeringroom or on the terrace, enjoying the atmosphere of sitting at night with a nightcap on the terrace...a dream came through! Our expectations were high, but were exeeded actually. We really recommend Peters boat to others. And we don´t get payed to say so :-) We will book there again whenever we´ve the chance to visit this great city of Amsterdam. We spent only 5 nights but my wife and I could have stayed 365 and more. Forget Paris, London... come and visit Amsterdam. And live on Peters houseboat ! That´s our advice for a great stay, long or short term !!!
Greetings from Tine Belle & Ralph Krauss,Oslo/Norway, sept. 2006

Taste The Difference (2) | 10 July 2006
Jane Way
email: janecway (at) hotmail (dot) com

In my review last week, I forgot to say that after two pretty awful restaurant evening meals (from recommended bistrot guides) we loved having a picnic & a bottle of wine in the wheel-house looking at life on the river, sitting in the sun, listening to music on the radio - much more fun than an expensive bad restaurant!

For the person that got woken up by the light because there were no curtains in the cabin where one sleeps - all you had to do was to hook up a towel over the porthole.

Don't know if I'll have time to come back to Amsterdam, but if I do, there is no question about it, we would want to stay on this same boat. Vive La Tempgina!

If you are looking for something different, stay on this boat! Although the accommodation is small, we simply loved it and it made all the difference to our stay in Amsterdam. It's a prime position to observe life on the canal and one is away from the tourists - bliss!

The water for the shower was always hot, and we slept really well. The loo needed fixing (it had broken away from the base) but perhaps it will have been done by now - one hopes so. The portholes in the bedroom could not be opened either.

The nearby café "Icebreakers" was great - friendly staff, good coffee, nice wine and excellent food. Try the apple cake from a nearby prize winning bakers.

had a lovely time on the house boat.. no need to write more as all the other reviews explain how good it is! only would say that the towels were very hard to dry yourself with and some curtains over the portholes in the bed area would be useful as was woken super early by the light.. but still really didnt matter at all... woud go back in a dash.... missing it already!

What a wonderful alternative to a stale hotel room. Peter, the host, is quite hospitable and makes you feel at home. The location is great, in a mostly residential area with some interesting buildings, and the metro and tram line a short walk. However, you are still close enough to the city center that you can walk. The interesting Albert Cupy Market is close, too.

The shower that everyone raves about is indeed a big plus. The pump toilet is, well, interesting, but functional. The bed is quite comfortable and I slept well. Would definitely rent this again. Oh, and it is surprisingly quiet as the nearby tram stops running at night.

We had a wonderful time in Amsterdam but as others have said what really made the trip was staying on this gorgeous boat.
Wood panelled cabin with lots of lovely touches make this the only way to stay in 'dam.In fact we stayed in twice during our stay as the view down the Amstel was superb from the poop deck.
Perfect for anyone who is looking for something a little different. Oh yes the shower - fantastico!!
All the best Peter and hopefully we will back in the future.

email: donhorel (at) hotmail (dot) com

I stayed on the Tempgina seven days during late March 2006. The setup was perfect for a single person. I loved sitting in the Wheelhouse (I thought of it as my living room) during the late afternoon watching the river traffic, the birds, and the bicycles. I felt like a local. The location was great, with many restaurants in the area. There was even a drop-off laundry less than 2 blocks away. The Number 3 Tram is right in front of the Tempgina, with two stops less than 100 meters away. Peter was the perfect host, making me feel like a neighbor, and not a visitor. When I return to Amsterdam, I will again call the Tempgina home.

This is a fantastic boat to stay in. If you are looking for something a bit "quirky" and an alternative to a hotel and especially if you are looking for a romantic stay out of the way of the busy areas, then this is deffinately the best choice!

The boat is 3 stops on the metro to central station (no, 54 or 53) and/or one stop to the Rembrant. So although you are out the way, you are also mintues from everything!

The shower was by far the better than what you would get in a hotel, instant hot water and good pressure, with a little cubby hole to look out of over the Amstal River whilst showering!

Room was very clean, warm and cosy and we were there when it was FREEZING outside. You have TV, radio/cd player, hairdryer, lots of towels etc...

Peter was a great host, we would deffinately go back there when visiting Amsterdam!

Boat BK09, 'Tempgina' - Review | 9 March 2006
Ian Sutherland

Our stay on the Tempgina was a definate highlight of our trip and made it one of our best ever holidays.
The boat lets you experience a lifestyle that is very unique to Amsterdam. Yes, headroom is limited in parts (I'm 195cm) but the cabin style bed is easily long enough and very comfortable. The shower is also good and has enough headroom for me.
The traditional wooden interior has a real charm about it and is very cosy and private. Perhaps it will give you some understanding of the Dutch word 'gezellig'. The wheel house is a great location to enjoy a drink and watch life go by on the river and bridge .
We visited during March and it was quite cold in Amsterdam but the heating on board was great.
We really liked the location on the Amstel River, it gives a much greater feeling of open space than some of the narrow canals.
The boat is just outside the main city centre but is still within easy walking distance of the main sights. The best way to get there from Centraal Station is on the Metro to Weesperplien, it's about a 5 minute walk from there. There's also a tram line right next to the boat that will take you directly to the Museumplien.
The Tempgina is a real 'home from home' and your host Peter is very welcoming. We'd definately recommend staying here (you must hire bikes too!).

We had a nice stay in the cold winter in Amsterdam, and since it was cold outside ( - 8 degree Celcius), the temperature inside was difficult to keep higher than 17 degree the first night. Later dasy it was better.

However, the very hot and nice shower, and 5 minutes heatingg by hairdryer in the morning gave a nice room temperature.

Summer time m ust be nice here.

We appreciate the kindness and warm welcome by the owner. No complains, but winter is winter

Houseboat holiday | 21 November 2005
Fiona and Roger Allan
email: dustie (at) alphalink (dot) com (dot) au

We had a fabulous stay on our houseboat in October 2005. Although the area we had was small, it was fine for two people and the use of the wheelhouse and the outside deck meant that we could sit and watch the bikes in the mornings and evenings, the lights of the city coming on and from time to time rowers coming past and the bridge opening to let the taller ships through.
The shower is brilliant - hot and strong- and the view from its window is probably unequalled in Amsterdam.
We thoroughly recommend BK09 for a different and enjoyable holiday.

Perfect accomodation | 9 October 2005
Sarah Kraaz

Me and my boyfriend lived on this boat for 4 nights in late september. Weather was great, so we could enjoy the great view on the Amstel from the little terrace what made this visit very special. I think no hotel can offer such a flair!
The cabin was very cozy and also very special with all the wood in there, maybe a little low for very tall people. My boyfriend is about 1,95m tall and he got some problems with his head and the ceiling :-)
There is a strong, hot shower and even a tv.
You can walk into the city within 20 minutes or take the tram; the station is about 1 minute away. A supermarket, Cafes, restaurants and fast food shops are all around the boat.
So we had a perfect trip to Amsterdam. Thanks to friendly Peter and his boat!

I had an extremely enjoyable stay on Tempgina. It was fun to sit up in the steering wheel house in the morning. It is perfect for a couple, it is quite tight. If you are tall you may need to duck through doorways in the boat. There is a very small toilet room with a pump toilet. The shower is great, with a porthole in the shower, so you can look out at the canal. At first I thought I might get seasick, but quickly adapted to the gentle rocking of the boat. The bed is very comfortable too. There is a small refrigerated cooler to keep food in. Peter was on vacation when we were there, but we met him on the last day. He was very nice. His neighbor let us in because we were late. Make sure to show up on time. It was a great experience staying on this house boat....so much more special than staying in a hotel. It is a quick bike ride to most places in the city, and not a bad walk either.

It has the right amount of adventure and spirit needed to make the stay in Amsterdam more authentic and enjoyable - especially on a sunny day. I will not be bothered with hotels anymore. It is unbelieable to be able to live in Amsterdam right on the riverAmstel in Amsterdam. It was an unforgettable memory. My friend Som has been living in Switzerland more than 40 years in Zurich. He enjoyed being on the boat. It was a cozy and compact. We spent sometime on the boat to drink some nice wine and share with the nice and friendly owner of the Boat. He and his friends were very kind and helpful. We had had the best time when we stayed there. It is not a big palace but it was nice and cozy. Hope you guys can visit and stay there then you guys know why people fall in love with Amsterdam. Let us celebrate a good life and see for yourself why Amstermdam is the one of the best place to visit.

Have fun and enjoy it. It was one moment in time for out lives.

Peter Huninck's boat, Tempigna made an atmospheric, comfortable - and warm -home for us during our four days in Amsterdam in December. We specially enjoyed sitting in the wheelhouse at night with a drink, watching the twinkling reflections on the Amstel. The powerful and piping hot shower was also a boon in the dankness of the Dutch winter.

This guestroom was a lovely place to stay in Amsterdam. The location was excellent, right on the Amstel river and a short walk to the center of the city. (We didn't rent bikes, but that clearly would be faster!) It was a really great way to get in touch with a little bit of local flavor. You can get a hotel room anywhere, but it is truly unique to stay on a houseboat. Our accomodations were comfortable, clean, and warm, even given the late October temperatures. We had a wonderful stay at Peter's houseboat! Cosy and warm atmosphere, more than we expected looking at the pictures on the web site.
We enjoyed large and long breakfasts in the cabin, breathing the real 'boat atmosphere' and sailor's experience. Coming back from our tours, in the evening, we felt like being at home. This accommodation really plaid a big part in our vacation.
Moreover, Peter was a very nice host and has been so kind to bring us to the railway station with his smaller boat on our departure day.
We highly recommend this kind of accommodation and especially Peter's boat.

Peter's houseboat is very authentic - you can imagine yourself as the Captain of the boat as you stay in the Captain's quarters at the rear. The accomodation is very cosy and comfortable, location is great also. We enjoyed meeting Peter and his friends. We spent a little more time on the boat than we had originally planned due to the weather - but it was great nevertheless.

we stayed on bk09. it was a great place to stay. the owner was very friendly and helpful. the boat was snug and cosy and everything worked really well. the boat is very central and it is easy to walk everywhere.i would definately recommend it to anyone.

My only compaint is that i paid 130 euros as a deposit on my credit card and another 205 euros to the boat owner. I should have paid 315 euros in total but actually over paid by 20 euros.

Note staff House-Boat Hotel: we are sorry you've missed the information. There is a reservation fee of 20 euro, we point that out before you've made the reservation on this site. You find the 20 euro fee also back on the calculation of the account beforehand.

Staying on a houseboat in Amsterdam is just the best thing to do: it makes the whole experience even more charming. The boat is very comfortable and renovated to perfection; our host Peter offered us to join him and some friends for some drinks on the deck one evening, which made us feel really welcome. The area is well worth discovering: there is a great market 10 mins away, the cafe nearby has the best coffee and a brilliant sunny terrace, and if you walk or cycle from the boat to the centre you'll go through some lovely little streets (so much less touristy!).

We'd go back anytime!
