Also in wintertime there is a lot to do and to see in Amsterdam: The Amsterdam
Tourist Board organize together with the museums the
Amsterdam winter
adventure
 from October 2003 through April 2004. It provides an overview of all
major exhibits that will be organized in Amsterdam.

You find a replica of the
Rijksmuseum in Madurodam. Madurodam, for more
than 50 years Holland's smallest city, is opened all year round. 
The canal
houses of
Amsterdam, the Alkmaar cheese market and parts
of the Delta
Works, all replicated in minute
detail on a 1:25 scale. All is set in beautiful

The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, set in its historic home designed by P.J.H.
Cuypers, houses the largest collection of art and history in the Netherlands.
The museum has an internationally renowned
collection
based around the
paintings of the seventeenth century Dutch Republic, the Golden Age,
including twenty works by Rembrandt, four by Vermeer and numerous other
paintings by artists such as Frans Hals and Jan Steen. Displayed at the very
heart of the museum is
Rembrandt’s Night Watch
. But the museum houses
more than just paintings: there are superb collections of silver,
delftware, doll’s houses, prints, drawings, the mysterious Asiatic art and a
recent completely renovated presentation on Dutch history.

Museumnacht: 8 November 2003 is the "Museumnacht" (night of the museums).
From 7 p.m.till 2 in the morning most museums stay open. You can buy tickets in
"Het Uitburo". Further they sell tickets by: the

Amsterdams Historisch Museum, Artis , * the Theatermuseum, 
the
Jewish Historical Museum, *Rederij Lovers and the Tropenmuseum from
the 4th of October for € 12,-.. 

The Universiteit van Amsterdam, founded as Athenaeum Illustre in 1632, is
one of the four classical universities in the Netherlands and a respected
treasurer of Academic Heritage. A distinctive aspect of the collections is its
variety.

Huis Marseille, The collection of Huis Marseille is still very young. It consists
of over sixty photographs spanning the entire twentieth century. At the
moment the last decade of the century is most strongly represented. The
emphasis is on contemporary works by photographers who are mostly to be
found among the visual artists.
