9th till the 12th of July:   North Sea Jazz Festival (English translated site)
With a calendar for all jazz events in Holland, specially La Hague.

In the begin of August is the Dance Parade in Rotterdam. In 2003 there were
more then 450.000 visitors! It always goes on till late in the evening.

We want to give some special attention to the little village Ruigoord. It has a long
history and has become famous in Holland when the Government tried to get it
away for economic reasons (enlargement of the harbour of Amsterdam). The
surroundings of the village were beautiful, in the middle of nature only 15 minutes
from Amsterdam by bus. There use to live only artists in the village, painters,
sculptors and mucicians and they still do! Over the years the village came in the
news, over and over again, because the artists (and a lot of the Dutch support
them) didn't want to give up their village. Still there are a few houses and a
church and they organize every Sunday afternoon a culture meeting. Everyone
(included children) is welcome. Bus 82 (get in on the Damrak or Rokin).

This is what they say on their own website:

The green oasis which encircles Ruigoord answers to the artist's need to
withdraw, for shorter or longer periods, from urbanised and industrial surroun-
dings, which was always a reason for the existence of artists colonies.

Ground-breaking culturally innovative movements such as renaissance,
expressionism, dada, surrealism, beat, provo and punk, were always stronger
than the destructive oppositions between political and religious systems.
Nation has made war on nation, but artists from different cultures have kept on
cooperating and inspiring each other. It is for this spirit, on the interface between
ancient traditions and avant-garde experiment, that Ruigoord stands open.
Empower the Imagination, now especially, at the beginning of an as yet
unformed new era.
