House-Boat B045 ****

William J. Kole wrote a nice article in this boat for ABC News. This spacious-living vessel enjoys no doubt the most stunning spot on the whole Amstel River as it docks right at the foot of Amsterdam's famous icon, the Skinny Bridge, and within reach to nearby historical & cultural landmarks such as Royal Carré Theater, Hermitage Museum, Jewish Museum, 17th century Synagogue, Rembrandt House, Opera House etc.

Just one block from the boat's front door is Amsterdam's most quaint yet bustling high street, Utrechtsestraat, offering a great number of unique, eye-catching stores from lifestyle, interior design, fashion, gifts, gourmet food, music to literature & overwhelming guests with authentic cafes, trendy bars & a global flair of cuisines/restaurants.

Superbly transformed from a former freighter into a modern & high standard living space, this vessel can accommodate up to 6 persons. There are original features & elegantly reserved such as iron beams, portholes & steering wheel.

The former captain deck features the original steering wheel & now serves as the boat's entrance. Turning left is a small staircase leading down to a fully equipped kitchen. Here guests can find any modern cooking/kitchen wares to prepare any meals of the day. Next is the grand open-plan dining/living room area & brighten up by natural daylight thanks numerous sunroofs, windows & portholes. The living room features a large-comfortable sofa & two armchairs for guests to relax & enjoy various home entertainment systems: large LCD-TV, Hi-Fi system, CD/DVD player, i-Docking, free Wi-Fi while marveling the Amstel River's spectacular view. Nearby is a cozy dinning area where a dinning table is provided with six chairs for guests gathering with family or friends for meals.

There are three sleeping areas. The main bedroom features a double bed & TV & has a direct view of the Skinny Bridge. Opposite the main bedroom is an amble wardrobe space for guests' belongings. The second sleeping area is an open-plan & has two single beds, here the Skinny Bridge is also in full view. The third bedroom is located in the kitchen area & has a double cupboard bed.

The spacious bathroom is located after the main bedroom & it features a modern shower unit, WC, a large marble face-basin & a state of the art Jacuzzi bathtub for guests to relax & indulge any hydrotherapy session. For outdoor enjoyment of the Amstel River's dazzling view there is a seating area provided on the boat’s upper deck. Reviews

Strong recommendation for B045.

Perfectly located boat with all comfort. There's a little supermarket nearby that serves you with all necessary foodstuff. We had our breakfast and our sundowner on deck watching the tourist boats coming along and bicycles crossing the Magere Brug. Once arrived at the boat you can get to all touristy and cultural spots, cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants and shops by foot or tram. You're immediately part of the city life.

Perfect Experience
by Family Oetterli

We usually rent a house when traveling, so we know there is often something not quite as we hoped. However we were really pleased with our houseboat stay last week. The beds were comfy--with simple white linen. The living area was cozy to relax between the long sight-seeing days & evenings out. The kitchen & eating area had everything to suit our needs. The water for showers (& even a bath once) was never an issue--always warm enough.
I read a comment about cool temps indoors. We arrived to rain & clouds and left with summer weather; the houseboat is not exactly well insulated. So if it is cold outside, you feel it inside. When the sun shines, it can get very warm. Bring enough socks/slippers, to be comfortable indoors for the cool hours. The heater does work well.
The location is prime! We loved looking at the Magere Brug and all its activities--weddings, tour groups, rowers & parties in passing boats, bike & pedestrian traffic (only) on the bridge above...and the lights a night.
The location of the houseboat is also ideal...for us, anyway. We rented bikes at MacBike for 3 days & locked them right in front. No problem. Amsterdam by bike is a must.
I see the houseboat is still available end of June. I sure wish we could be the ones to book it again so soon...
A real treat in a beautiful city.
